[Bug 1833146] Re: Provide package for 'git-credential-gnome-keyring'

2019-06-27 Thread Luke Schlather
The question I linked is the root problem. "What is the correct way to
use git with gnome-keyring and http(s) repos?" Providing precompiled
binaries for git-credential-gnome-keyring would solve the problem.

[Bug 1833146] Re: Provide package for 'git-credential-gnome-keyring'

2019-06-21 Thread Luke Schlather
I've copied in the question I linked on stackoverflow. The current
instructions require you to build the code from source (though the code
is installed by git I think, it must be compiled.) The point here is
providing precompiled binaries.

What's the distinction between acpi_video0 and intel_backlight? It seems
like a bug to me that those don't match, even if we decide that for
legacy reasons the bugged behavior of triggering max brightness is
necessary.

I can trigger the bug on the xubuntu 18.10 live mode. The GPU is "Intel

think that's just the integrated chipset for my CPU (Intel(R) Core(TM)

[Bug 1782177] [NEW] Screen sometimes jumps to full brightness on resume from suspend

2018-07-17 Thread Luke Schlather
Public bug reported:

At night, I usually turn my brightness down as far as it will go using
the brightness keys. This makes it dim, but visible and not off. When I
walk away for a while, the screen goes to sleep, and when I come back
and move the mouse, the screen jumps to full brightness, which is very
unpleasant at night. Investigating, it seems that the brightness in
intel_backlight is getting reset to 4437, but the one in acpi_video0
reads 0.

$ for file in brightness max_brightness actual_brightness;
> do
> for directory in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/
> do
> echo $directory$file : $(cat $directory$file)
> done
> done
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness : 4437
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness : 0
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness : 4437
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness : 15
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness : 4437
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/actual_brightness : 0

After I press the button to increase the brightness one notch, they are
back in sync, and then I can turn it back down as well.

$ for file in brightness max_brightness actual_brightness;
> do
>for directory in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/
> do
> echo $directory$file : $(cat $directory$file)
> done
> done
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness : 53
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness : 1
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness : 4437
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness : 15
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness : 53
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/actual_brightness : 1

This is on a fresh install of xubuntu 18.04. Seems like a regression
from 16.04, which I ran on the same laptop without this issue.

[Bug 1670022] [NEW] Pulseaudio volume master breaks after plugging in headphones

[Bug 1619411] [NEW] keepass2 databases can't be imported into keepassx

2016-09-01 Thread Luke Schlather
Public bug reported:

I installed keepass2 on Ubuntu, and I've been growing frustrated with
the UI and wanted to try out keepassx. I installed it, but got a
signature error when I tried to open my keepass2-flavor .kdbx. I tried
exporting as XML and keepass1 CSV with no success.

[Bug 1303736] Re: [SRU] Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2015-12-30 Thread Luke Schlather
Can someone remove the "fix released" tag? It looks like XFCE punted to
Red Hat's bug tracker on the assumption that the issue is distro-

understands the issue.

[Bug 1274613] Re: module-bluetooth-discover does not load on login

2015-06-07 Thread Luke Schlather
The complete set of steps for the workaround are:

* In a terminal, run `pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover`
* Right-click on the device in blueman, select connect to audio sink
* Open Puleseaudio volume control (pavucontrol), browse to configuration ,
use the dropdown to turn the Built-in audio profile off
* use the other dropdown to set the bluetooth device to use A2DP

I think the desirable behavior is you would hit connect to audio sink
and audio would start flowing through the bluetooth device, and then if
you hit disconnect it would start flowing through the default profile
again.

However, there's an additional bug here, which is that after
disconnecting (and manually switching the sink back on,) the default
profile seems altered. I'm a little confused by what the underlying
configuration change is, but xfce4-volumed can't control the volume of
the built-in audio until I kill it and restart it:

killall xfce4-volumed
xfce4-volumed

[Bug 1462791] [NEW] Unity control center fails to rebind keys

2015-06-07 Thread Luke Schlather
Public bug reported:

A variety of predefined keys used by unity cannot be rebound. (Super+t,
Super+w, pretty much anything used by Unity)

If the user tries to rebind the keys using the unity-control-center -
keyboard - shortcuts dialog, the keybindings will not function.

The dialog should at least prevent the user from rebinding these keys.
There is a workaround for binding the keys which involves digging around
in compizconfig-settings-manager for the guilty keybinding. (
http://askubuntu.com/questions/34145/can-i-define-keyboard-shortcuts-
using-the-super-key )

Ideally, the control center should interface with unity to allow binding
the keys, there shouldn't be a separate configuration app.

[Bug 1093655] [NEW] Sound is strangely garbled

2012-12-25 Thread Luke Schlather
Public bug reported:

I am running Xubuntu on 64 bit, and sound for some programs ends up
garbled. Specifically, Impressions Games Pharaoh has this issue.

I've found a few workarounds - toggling the Profile in pulseaudio Volume
Control seems to help. Weirdly, having Pulseaudio volume control open
seems to keep the sound working, but as soon as I close it, the sound
works again.

[Bug 997331] Re: Some alsa applications play bad sound

2012-11-25 Thread Luke Schlather
I'm trying to run an app under Wine which had really distorted/echoey
sound. Toggling the configuration profile in Pulseaudio did fix it...
not sure if what I saw is a separate bug.

[Bug 1030417] [NEW] missing lib32asound2 dependency

2012-07-28 Thread Luke Schlather
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04. Wine was busted and refusing to
install for a bit, I think I finally got it to install with the wine1.4
package. At any rate, I have wine and wine1.4 installed, and sound was
refusing to work. After a bit of googling I resolved it with this:

sudo apt-get install lib32asound2

So I think that dependency needs to be fixed.

See also: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31304

lib32asound2 was sufficient to get Riven working, but it may also be
wise to add the dependencies mindalot installed for League of Legends:

sudo apt-get install lib32asound2-dev
sudo apt-get install libasound2-plugins:i386

[Bug 665623] [NEW] Xorg crash shortly after resume from hibernate

2010-10-23 Thread Luke Schlather
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On the Dell Mini 1012, Xorg has consistent crashes.

It's happened every single time I've resumed from hibernate. Usually,
whenever I have to reboot, I reboot and then force a crash by opening a
lot of different pages in Firefox. When I've tried I've always forced a
crash within 5 minutes, and when I haven't tried it has invariably
crashed.
