[Bug 1970449] Re: GPG keys are not shown in Software and Updates

2022-04-28 Thread Manfred Hampl
Fact is: software-properties-gtk does not show the registered apt gpg keys in
the "Authentication" tab on my Ubuntu 21.10 and 22.04 systems.
My Ubuntu 20.04 shows the registered keys in the window.

Due to the fact that the system in question showed two different issues,
there is a mix of information related to the two problems.

I have tried to clean that up a bit.

[Bug 1965942] Re: Netmask should be replaced by Prefix?

2022-03-22 Thread Manfred Hampl
My understanding was that the limits for directly reachable computers in
IPv4 is called "netmask" and in IPv6 the equivalent is called "prefix".

gnome-comtrol-center 1:3.36.5-0ubuntu3 on Ubuntu focal correctly shows
these different labels for manual settings in IPv4 and IPv6.

In my opinion the only thing to be done for this bug report is adding
"prefix" to the documentation in https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-
help/net-fixed-ip-address.html.en

Instead of

Type in the IP Address and Gateway, as well as the appropriate Netmask.

it has to be something like

Type in the IP Address and Gateway, as well as the appropriate Netmask
(for IPv4) respectively Prefix (for IPv6).

[Bug 1962043] Re: libwacom9 : depends on : libwacom-common

2022-02-28 Thread Manfred Hampl
The cause is that both libwacom2 and libwacom9 depend on libwacom-common
in the version identical to the libwacom(number) version.

I assume that you have libwacom2 and libwacom-common installed from a
previous Ubuntu release, or a older version in Jammy that meanwhile has
been superseded.

sudo apt install libwacom9 libwacom-common=2.1.0-2
or
sudo apt install libwacom9 libwacom2-
or
sudo apt remove libwacom2
should help.

see also
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libwacom/+question/700653

Eventually a "breaks:libwacom2" clause in libwcom9's control file could
help.

[Bug 1922290] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in update_dbus_opened_locations()

2021-04-06 Thread Manfred Hampl
to the "confusing description":

Maybe a misinterpretation on my side. I booted the system, logged in,
and immediately received a pop-up informing me of a crash. This might
have been caused by the presence of a not-yet-reported crash file from
an earlier session, although I cannot remember that I have executed
"nautilus --version" earlier.

Only upon seeing the crash report and the bug report that has been
created, I executed "nautilus --version" (or maybe executed it again)
and with that command I reliably can produce that crash again.

Meanwhile I have downloaded the hirsute-beta-iso from March 31.
Booting it in "Try Ubuntu" mode in VirtualBox also reliably crashed when

[Bug 1892035] [NEW] acpi-override-initramfs makes update-initramfs fail when /var/lib/acpi-override/ is empty

I assume the problematic statement is in line 18 in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/acpi-override
cp -a /var/lib/acpi-override/* "$ACPI/kernel/firmware/acpi/" || exit 1

If there is no file in /var/lib/acpi-override/ (which is to be expected
at initial installation of that package) the cp command gives return
code 1 and dpkg ends with an error.

In my opinion the cp command should only be executed when files exist,
so it probably has to be put into some kind of "if" clause (or needs an
"ignore-if-empty" option).

[Bug 1885939] Re: Required dependencies not installed along with juce-tools

2020-07-02 Thread Manfred Hampl
This seems to be a misunderstanding of the package relationships in
Ubuntu/Debian.
see e.g. https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html

Quote:
Depends
This declares an absolute dependency. A package will not be configured unless
all of the packages listed in its Depends field have been correctly configured
(unless there is a circular dependency as described above).

Recommends
This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.
The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with
this one in all but unusual installations.
End of quote

As far as I understood, juce-tools can be installed without all those
extra packages that are listed on that forum psoting, and you can start
projucer without these. So they do not qualify for a "depends".

If your attempt to compile an audio project fails with missing
dependencies, then this is something different and in my opinion falls
into the "recommends" category.

[Bug 1867406] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 Dock/Taskbar icons

2020-03-14 Thread Manfred Hampl
My experience with that matter and how to reproduce:

Ubuntu 20.04 (development) installed.

Ubuntu dock bar at the left (or right):
You can easily re-arrange the icons by dragging one of them up or down with
your mouse and pressed left mouse button.
When hovering between two icons, they slide up and down to create space for
dropping the icon that you want to move.

Now relocate the dock bar to the bottom edge of the screen with
Settings - appearance - position of the dock: bottom

Now when attempting to move an icon, the other icons do not leave space
for dropping the moving icon, but they move somewhat in groups.

[Bug 1861226] [NEW] install fails due to changed OpenStreetMap URLs

2020-01-28 Thread Manfred Hampl
Public bug reported:

Installation of openstreetmap-carto-common fails in the postinst script.
The script get-shapefiles.sh tries to download certain files from
OpenStreetMap.org.
Apparently OpenStreetMap.org has restructured their repositories, and so the
script fails.

The four links starting with "http://data.openstreetmapdata.com/... have
to be changed into "https://osmdata.openstreetmap.de/download/...

[Bug 1844518] Re: Ubuntu 19:10 - Python 3 os.path.isfile not working as expected

2019-09-19 Thread Manfred Hampl
In my opinion this bug can be set to invalid.
In the linked question #684013 it became evident, that (for whatever reason)
/vmlinuz was a dangling symlink pointing to a non-existing kernel version. So
python's output islink:true and isfile:false is fully correct.

In all cases the version seems to be the default one distributed by
UB, 1.9.3, and one additional thing in common seems to be the usage
of hooks at least in some repos. The thread starter e.g. sends mails,
while in one of my repos I'm distributing commits using svnsync.

The problem is that it seems a bit difficult to reproduce what
triggers the segfault: After recognizing it, I committed in some test
repo without any hook and in the repo with the hook and in both cases
wasn't able to trigger the problem. Notice that I dind't restart
svnserve or the whole system before the tests, just as is. Looking at
the past logs, the problem somtimes happens every few minutes,
somtimes a few times a day and sometimes even not at all.

The interesting thing in my case is that I have some repo to which
things get committed multiple times a day automatically. That's as
well the repo with the hook. So there shouldn't be any day without any
commit to at least one repo, but I still have days without the problem.

If the segfaults happen, it seems to be exactly the same error
message until the main process gets restarted. My logs contained only
one exception from the rule: 7f5f75994640

[Bug 1607845] Re: List of versioned kernels is not right for Ubuntu

2019-04-05 Thread Manfred Hampl
What about packages like

linux-modules-extra-3.13.0-168-generic

Two versions ago (starting with 3.13.0-166) the former linux-image-
extra-* packages have been renamed to linux-modules-extra-*

I do not see any provision for these in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove
and 01autoremove-kernels on my trusty system (apt 1.0.1ubuntu2.23), and
indeed "apt autoremove" deleted the linux-image-extra package belonging
to the "running kernel minus one" kernel version.

[Bug 1468526] Re: g15tools.com seems to be not anymore under control be g15tools

2018-11-28 Thread Manfred Hampl
I cannot comprehend the reaction "Closing as invalid as there is nothing
to do for g15stats."

In my opinion it is necessary to change g15stats-1.9.2/debian/control in
g15stats_1.9.2-2build4.diff.gz
from:
Homepage: http://www.g15tools.com
to:
Homepage: http://sourceforge.net/projects/g15tools/

Similar for the other source packages listed in Bug #1805519

[Bug 1767361] Re: 4.6.6deb5 not working on Bionic as PHP 7.2 is default

2018-11-13 Thread Manfred Hampl
@Maxwell Dreytser:
If you think that this is a 20 minute job, please help solving it, e.g. by
creating a package in a PPA.

Looking at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=890595 and
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=879741 the task seems
to require far more work.

2018-11-06 Thread Manfred Hampl
What do you get when changing each occurrence of 'cookie' into
'c%6f%6fkie' in the url?

[Bug 1644643] Re: apt failed to run due to link time reference error

2018-10-30 Thread Manfred Hampl
The root cause of this problem is Zentyal who provide an updated version
of libapt-pkg5.0 in their repositories (version 1.5.1), but no updated
version of the apt package (which will be taken from the Ubuntu
repositories, currently version 1.2.29). These two packages do not fit
together.

Workaround: downgrade libapt-pkg5.0 to the Ubuntu version (and mark that
package not to be updated to the Zentyal version again)

Long term solution proposal: Zentyal have to reassess and correct the
contents of their repositories.
