[Bug 1954565] [NEW] rtw88_pci causes system to freeze with rtl8821ce wireless card

2021-12-11 Thread Marios
Public bug reported:

I have an HP dw-1015nv laptop, with a realtek rtl8821ce
wireless/bluetooth card. After installing ubuntu, the system would
randomly freeze. The fan spun up to max and there was no response from
the keyboard or on the screen. I noticed that this issue stopped after
disabling WiFi. After doing some research i found out that creating a
file in /etc/modprobe.d/ called rtw88_pci.conf with the contents:
options rtw88_pci disable_aspm=1 , the problem stopped. Is there any way
to implement this by default? It might take new users a long time to
understand what is happening and they may be discouraged from using
ubuntu in the future.

[Bug 1328765] Re: File never finish transfering

2018-11-04 Thread Ellinas Marios
The same thing happen in 18.04 LTS. Also the progress bar doesn't really shows
correct persantage of how much has been transferred.
The ETA is fake in the progress bar it seems that the progress goes to 100% and
stuck there until it really transfers the file. I think it's not possible to
trust the progress bar behaving like this. Please fix this bug make it to show
the real progress of the transfer.

[Bug 1142651] Re: [keymap] TOSHIBA L870-18J: Brightness keys do not work

2013-05-21 Thread kogias marios
I have installed the latest 3.9.3 kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and the problem seems solved.
The brightness changes with the function combination keys.
The System Settings -- Brightness and Lock now contains the brightness
controls and works fine.

I have also tried the 3.2.0-41, but the problems persists with this
kernel.

If you still need any more details, I would gladly help.

2013-03-03 Thread kogias marios
Public bug reported:

The problem is that brightness is at full and I cannot change it. The Fn+F2,

I have tried adding boot parameters like nomodeset, acpi_hardware=vendor etc.
But nothing has worked for me.
I even tried the /sys/class/backlight way but there is a problem. This
directory is empty.
I am using ubuntu 12.04.2 64bit and I have tried both open source and amd

I even tried the latest mainline kernels up to 3.8.1 which also did not solve

[Bug 993723] Re: cron jobs never execute

2012-05-03 Thread Marios Zindilis
By using crontab -e you are setting up a user-specific cronjob. Those
crontabs are stored in /var/spool/cron/crontabs/ and the filename is the
same as the username of the user that creates the crontab.

Can you verify that this file is created for your user? If it is, can
you post its contents?

[Bug 993665] Re: Cannot start apache after upgrading to 12.04

2012-05-03 Thread Marios Zindilis
Is this an Apache2 installation from the repositories?

I wonder, because /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf is the default
location for the configuration file from the developers of Apache, but
distributions override the path and place httpd.conf under /etc, to
comply with the FileSystem Hierarchy Standard.

Other than that, it looks like the package php5-mysql might be
missing from your installation.

[Bug 968211] [NEW] NFS kernel server initscript contains errors

2012-03-29 Thread Marios Makassikis
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using
I checked on the ubuntu install I have here - 12.04 precise pangolin beta - but
it's likely the
bug is present in older versions too.

2) The version of the package you are using
nfs-kernel-server:
Installed: 1:1.2.5-3ubuntu1

3) What you expected to happen
I expected mountd to be started for NFSv3

4) What happened instead
mountd was started, but version 1 and 2 only -- according to rpcinfo -p

5) The fix
The rpcinfo binary is located in /usr/sbin rather than /usr/bin

$PREFIX/bin/rpcinfo -u localhost nfs 3 /dev/null 21 ||
RPCMOUNTDOPTS=$RPCMOUNTDOPTS --no-nfs-version 3

Whereas it should be:

$PREFIX/sbin/rpcinfo -u localhost nfs 3 /dev/null 21 ||
RPCMOUNTDOPTS=$RPCMOUNTDOPTS --no-nfs-version 3

6) Possible improvement

Perhaps it can be further improved to check if the nfs process listens on TCP
rather than UDP.

I'm thinking this should do the trick:

$PREFIX/sbin/rpcinfo -u localhost nfs 3 /dev/null 21 ||
$PREFIX/sbin/rpcinfo -p localhost nfs 3 /dev/null 21 ||
RPCMOUNTDOPTS=$RPCMOUNTDOPTS --no-nfs-version 3

If nfs 3 doesn't listen at least on one protocol, then RPCMOUNTDOPTS is
modified accordingly.

[Bug 548631] Re: xubuntu keyboard layout switch shortcuts are not remembered

2011-11-25 Thread Marios Margaritis
Temporary solution:

setxkbmap -layout us,gr -variant euro -option
'grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll'

this command will set dual layout US Greek with Euro sign.

Putting it on Session autostart does not work since its overwritten by the
bugged xfce layout,
so I made a launcher and I use it once per session when I need the 2nd layout
(Greek in this example).

[Bug 655206] [NEW] Wrong update server based on location

2010-10-05 Thread Marios Kaintatzis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

During setup i was asked to write the location where i live, i wrote
down Samos and choose Samos island from the list (3rd choice), all
went smooth during the installation, but i noticed the update servers
where set to Turkey. Geographically Samos is closer to turkey than
Athens but this means that i got 1/4 of the download speed.

Default update servers for Aegean islands should be set to Greek update
servers

2008-12-08 Thread Marios Kaintatzis
I am using Gnome, so as i read above i did not enable apport.

Probably the break comes from running gedit with sudo, but the weird
part is that there is no .crash file in /var/crashes and when i rename
the directory and remove the quote everything works fine.

Thank you all for your time.

Cheers!

[Bug 45786] Re: Problem with sound

2008-02-23 Thread Marios Papamichael
Hi i have installed Ubuntu yesterday and i have problems with my sound.
I wrote this command sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and the bottom line
is options snd-cmipci mpu_port=0x330 fm_port=0x388. I have an intel sound
card so i think i have to add this line in options snd-intel8x0 ac97_quirk=3.
Everytime i add this line then i cant save the changes. I typed sudo
update-modules
in another terminal to update the alsa-base but still it says modified.
What do i have to do about that? Thnx!

1. I restart and the resolution on the default screen becomes 1900x1200 ( even
thought i had 1680x1050 selected )
2. i try to set it back and restart and i get the fail safe message that there
was a problem with the screen settings.
3. I use dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and fix the problem but it only sets one
screen.
4. If i use the nvidia-xconfig it seems to work but i cant open a terminal
neither i can enable the desktop effects ( which the work fine with one screen )
5. I try different combinations of the above in different orders and wither i
get a screen that is wide and the terminal doesn't work or I get a secondary
screen that displays nonsense colors and blings.
6. I try removing the restricted nvidia-glx and reinstalling them but it
doesn't help.

7. Important note. when i get the failsafe screen ( if i click continue it
doesnt continue ) if i try to setup two screen it goes back to failsafe.

my system is a sun workstation with dual amd processors. I installed
the Gutsy 7.10 beta and have all the updates ( universe, multiverse,
backports everything that is available)

I know it can be fixed by manually editing the xorg.conf file but this
seems to be a bug of the new screen and graphics preference.
