[Bug 1875117] Re: Realtek RTL810xE Ethernet [10ec:8136] Subsystem [1179:f91b] not recognized

2020-04-26 Thread Mark Dalphin
I have now backed out all of the r8101 module and rebooted with the
r8169.

The system now works - this bug can be closed. Some update I've
installed seems to have fixed the issue.

The original issue was the Ethernet was not recognized. As can be seen
below, it is now recognized:

> nmcli device status
DEVICE TYPE STATECONNECTION
enp3s0 ethernet connectedOdysseus 192.168.2.x
wlp4s0 wifi unavailable --
p2p-dev-wlp4s0 wifi-p2p unavailable --
lo loopback unmanaged--

I do not have a copy of the dmesg from the past when it was not working.
The current dmesg (excerpt here; full file attached later just for
information) shows the recognition of the Ethernet:

[0.960609] r8169 :03:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have ASPM
control
[0.969112] libphy: r8169: probed
[0.969570] r8169 :03:00.0 eth0: RTL8106e, f8:a9:63:7a:a5:c4, XID 449,
IRQ 47
[0.974858] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: renamed from eth0
...
[7.355527] RTL8208 Fast Ethernet r8169-300:00: attached PHY driver [RTL8208
Fast Ethernet] (mii_bus:phy_addr=r8169-300:00, irq=IGNORE)
[7.610923] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: Link is Down
[9.155745] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: Link is Up - 100Mbps/Full - flow
control rx/tx

Previously, the original 'r8169' at 0.90609 showed an error.

In short, this bug can be closed as it has been fixed by an update since
my original issue (on the beta release of Kubuntu 20.04).

[Bug 1875117] [NEW] Realtek Ethernet Hardware not recognized

2020-04-25 Thread Mark Dalphin
Public bug reported:

This report follows:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/770368/realtek-ethernet-driver-error-ubuntu-16-04
and
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1228988/ethernet-unclaimed

As with the previous "Ask Ubuntu", a solution is to follow the README at:
https://github.com/ghostrider-reborn/realtek-r8101-linux-driver

trusting the auto-build and install of a Realtek 8101 driver rather than
8169. This process needs to be repeated for each kernel upgrade.
