[Bug 1244402] Re: Autotype changes the @ character after upgrade to saucy

2014-05-30 Thread Mark Jonas
I am experiencing an almost identical problem with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 64
bit with preferred system language English (United States), regional
format German and keyboard layout German.

When using the auto type feature instead of the @ character the ⅛
character is printed. When using the feature to copy the user name or
password to the clipboard everything is fine.

KeepassX worked fine for me in 12.04 LTS. The problem occured after
installation (not upgrade) of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

I found other people with the same problem and also proposed solutions
but I would prefer an Ubuntu-intrinsic fix.

Proposal to run setxkbmap de after login:
http://sourceforge.net/p/keepassx/bugs/269/

Proposal to remove all keyboard layouts except one:

Btw, running setxkbmap de after login fixes the problem for that
session but it would be very nice if it just worked without doing magic
which might interfere with the system.

[Bug 891048] Re: Autotype with a username containing the @ symbol sends

2014-05-30 Thread Mark Jonas
#1244402 Autotype changes the @ character after upgrade to saucy is
somehow a duplicate of this issue.

German users with get a ⅛ character instead of an @.

According to https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/247104 there
is an additional workaround to this problem: Remove all additional
keyboard languages.

A solution instead of a workaround would be great. TIA.

[Bug 1267384] Re: 8086:29b2 [HP Compaq dc7800 Convertible Minitower PC] 82Q35 graphics acceleration performance worse than it could be

2014-01-31 Thread Mark Jonas
Chris, your proposal is not a solution but a workaround. Alternative
workarounds are to use an old version of Ubuntu or Windows 7 which shows
good performance on its 3D enhanced desktop.

I am still interested in a solution regarding this regression that the
Unity desktop does not perform any more.

Christopher, I added the duplicate bug report as you wished. I marked it
as a duplicate of this one.

I just gave it a try with a 10.04 live CD and there the X performance is
at the good level I can remember. In 11.10,12.04 and 14.04-20140108 the
performance is reproducably bad.

[Bug 931122] Re: [q35] 3D performance is very bad

2014-01-08 Thread Mark Jonas
Tested again with Trusty daily-live/current CD image booted from USB
stick.

Perceived perfomance is a little better but moving windows is still
jerky.

glxgears performance improved compared to my last test.

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
348 frames in 5.0 seconds = 69.121 FPS
352 frames in 5.0 seconds = 70.342 FPS
362 frames in 5.0 seconds = 72.196 FPS

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ glxgears -fullscreen
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
76 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15.138 FPS
60 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11.898 FPS
66 frames in 5.1 seconds = 12.931 FPS

[Bug 931122] Re: 3D performance is very bad

2012-06-13 Thread Mark Jonas
Yes, unity 5.12-ubuntu1.1 helps. But the Unity performance is still
unedifying.

Ubuntu (3D):
# Moving windows is and fading effects are still very jerky.
# glxgears runs at 30 fps
# glxgears -fullscreen crawls most of the time at 5 fps but sometimes jumps up
to 18 fps.

Ubuntu 2D:
# Moving windows feels like it was before in 10.04. The window moves together
with the pointer, no more drag but not smooth.
# glxgears runs at 60 fps and seems to be limited by the screen refresh rate.
Good!
# glxgears -fullscreen still crawls along with 4.7 fps.

I know that glxgears is not a proper benchmark but it is an application
with simple 3D graphics and should run smoothly.

[Bug 437306] Re: grub2 takes return key press from BIOS password window

2012-02-25 Thread Mark Jonas
If this is a BIOS bug, wouldn't it possible for grub to work around it
by emptying the key queue when it starts? For most Ubuntu users it is
much more easier to receive an updated grub than updating their BIOS -
if there is an update.

For the sake of bug #1 please consider fixing this.

[Bug 272247] Re: System freezes during boot, unless I hold a key down

2011-05-29 Thread Mark Jonas
I am also affected by this. Disabling C1E in BIOS, nolapic_timer or
acpi_skip_timer_override fixes it. I think that acpi_skip_timer_override
has the least negative impact on my system so I am using this.

[Bug 437306] [NEW] grub2 takes return key press from BIOS password window

2009-09-26 Thread Mark Jonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

On my MSI Wind U100 netbook the BIOS can be configured such that a
password has to be entered before it boots. After entering the password
the Return key has to be pressed so the password is checked and
accepted. Then the grub menu appears but the first entry is selected
immediately and Ubuntu boots. But this prevents the user from selecting
anything else from the menu.

All this does not happen if the BIOS password is not enabled. In that
case the menu can be operated normally.

The old grub in Ubuntu 9.04 did not show this bad behavior.

[Bug 423873] Re: screen brightness flickers at login screen

2009-09-03 Thread Mark Jonas
** Description changed:

When the login screen (KDM) appears the screen of my MSI Wind U100
netbook starts to flicker, i.e. the backlight brightness alternates. The
brightness widget is also shown and its bar goes up and down for 1 step.

When changing the brightness manually using Fn-F4 and Fn-F5 during the
login screen it keeps on flickering but at a different brightness offset
  then.

After logging in the flickering continues until vigorously changing the
brightness manually using Fn-F4 and Fn-F5.

After logging out and returning to the login screen it again starts to
  flicker.

My system is running latest Ubuntu Karmic (development branch), release
  9.10.
+
+ I just found bug report 415023 which sounds very similar. But changing
+ the brightness fast does not induce the problem for me again. Also, it
+ does not stop flickering for me after ~30 seconds like the other report
+ says.

I tried it with 2.6.31-9 and it does not work, too, but the screensaver

[Bug 129882] Re: system and ebox apache fight each other

2007-08-12 Thread Mark Jonas
I see the same problem with my installation. /etc/init.d/apache2
restart and ebox is gone. /etc/init.d/ebox restart and apache2 is
gone. This sequence can be repeated endlessly.
