[Bug 1315817] Re: totem shows error Invalid commandline while running all media files

2014-08-30 Thread Martin Gamache
I did some research and found this problem affects only file on a Samba
share (at least for me). Also, I tried opening such files while in
guest mode and everything worked. My guess is, this is related to some
left-over settings from previous installations... I removed settings
and temp files for totem and samba (those in my home directory), and
solved the problem...

[Bug 112781] Re: .kde directory owned by root, problems running kde apps on gnome system

I had the same problem just after installing Ubuntu 10.04 with some Kde
applications, from the official repositories. However, I install my
extra software through a script with option -y (force yes), I'm
wondering if this might be the cause of this problem for me...

[Bug 456900] Re: [Karmic] usb-creator cannot format usb stick

2009-12-21 Thread Martin Gamache
I tested it again on my updated Desktop (instead of the laptop, on which
I first observed this bug).

This is what happened :

- When trying to format an already formatted USB stick, nothing happens.
Sometimes, I get the message :

DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given
volume was not found

And then the drive partition is no longer recognized.

- It seems to be working when you insert an unformatted USB stick,
though.

I'm not sure it's a big deal, since most users will have a preformated
USB stick and won't want to format it.

See attachments for details.

[Bug 443265] [NEW] KARMIC : Authorizations Windows has lost many options

2009-10-05 Thread Martin Gamache
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: policykit-1-gnome

I'm not sure this is the right package, I'm just guessing...

When trying to set specific rights for me (I'm a power user) in System
| Administration | Authorizations, I get really fewer options than
before. Therefore, I cannot set my user to be able to unmount USB
disks, among other things.

Is this normal? I'm starting to have second thoughts about using
Karmic. Apparently, you're removing everything a newbie could create
problems with, making it really unpleasant to us advanced users...

[Bug 443441] [NEW] [Karmic] Restart or shut down now requires root password

2009-10-05 Thread Martin Gamache
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

I'm not sure this is the right package, but...

In Karmic Beta, every time I try to shut down or reboot, I get a message
telling me that I don't have the user privilege to do so while other
sessions are active.

I have no apps open nor any other sessions opened.

I then input my password. Then it closes as it should.

This is starting to be irritating. This behaviour is similar to what
you get in Windows Vista. Please don't start imitating them.. :(

[Bug 442635] [NEW] Karmic : Update manager hangs whileinstalling packages

2009-10-04 Thread Martin Gamache
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

About half of the times I tried so far, Update Manager appears to hang
while installing, and after a while I get a Dialog Box notifying me that
a daemon has died. The packages I was trying to update were
apparently updated, though.

I'm going to send you a screenshot next time the problem occurs.

No other software was opened at the same time. I'm using a HP DV-2620

[Bug 442763] [NEW] Karmic : cannot set specific apps sound in Gnome Sound Preferences

2009-10-04 Thread Martin Gamache
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I'm not sure this is the right package, I'm guessing here... Here's the
problem.

When opening the Sound Window (from the Preferences Menu), one cannot
set sounds (or no sounds) for specific apps or system events.

Before, I was used to go there to remove the Ubuntu start sound (too
long for my taste), now I have no option to do that, other than removing
all system sounds by using the no sounds scheme.

The rest of the windows looks great though, although there are fewer options...

recommended if you use the KDE desktop.

On the other hand, did you check if there were another sudo package

Well, I also tried to install something from the add/remove panel (which
seemed to work), but it does not work anymore, not even for uninstalling

I think the problem started after I forced Gnome to shut down

[Bug 379568] [NEW] Synaptic won't start, report Xapian::DatabaseCorruptError

2009-05-22 Thread Martin Gamache
Public bug reported:

For some reason, Synaptic (version 0.62.5ubuntu3) has stopped working
on my 64 bits Jaunty laptop.

I tried starting it from the terminal and got this error message :

mar...@diogenes:/var/backups$ sudo synaptic
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Xapian::DatabaseCorruptError'
Aborted

Following different leads on launchpad, I tried the following :

- uninstalling and reinstalling synaptic with apt-get;
- sudo dpkg-reconfigure synaptic
- sudo apt-get check
- sudo apt-get clean
- sudo dpkg --configure -a
- sudo apt-get -f install
- sudo apt-get --reinstall install xauth (and then sudo chown $(echo $USER)
.Xauthority)

But nothing helped.

I checked on Google for this error, but found nothing...

Any suggestions, apart from re-installing everything?

[Bug 350635] Re: stellarium crashed with SIGSEGV in QApplication::notify()
