first I thought it was something with secure boot however I didn't
change anything in the bios and checking showed that it is infact
disabled, also running sudo mokutil --sb-state shows SecureBoot
disabled

anyways I found out that I had an update of the package linux-firmware
from 1.187.16 to 1.187.15 the day before.

Downgrading to 1.187 (for unknown reason I couldn't find the binary of
the old version 1.187.15 on my notebook nor on the internet anymore),
and reloading the module as described in
https://openterprise.it/2019/04/linux-reload-intel-wireless-card-kernel-
module/ brought the wifi back.

[Bug 1939986] Re: Missing firmware files, in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, for initramfs, when it loads i915

2021-09-15 Thread Ortbauer Martin Leopold
I can confirm this bug, I'm also on 20.04. Manually replacing the i915
binaries at /lib/firmware/i915 with the binaries from
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
firmware.git/tree/i915 seems and running update-initramfs -u seems to
fix it for me as well.

[Bug 1733083] Re: trackpoint slow and hard to move

2021-01-08 Thread Martin Leopold
Hi,
On my HP EliteBook 840 G2 I'm seeing the same issue. I saw the issue on Ubuntu
20.04, but upgrading to 20.10 made no difference. It was suggested[1] to switch
to the 'evdev' input driver. So I installed the 'xserver-xorg-input-evdev'
package and added the following file:

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/5-trackpoint.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev trackpoint"
MatchIsPointer "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
MatchProduct "PS/2 Generic Mouse"
Driver "evdev"
EndSection

This seems to make my tracpoint usable again.

[Bug 1625823] Re: MPlayer interrupted by signal 11

2018-01-20 Thread Martin Leopold
Hi,
I ran in to this problem and stumbled on the the thread below that indicates
the '-demuxer +lavf' to somehow be the culprit. The author proposes a simple
patch that disables it.
https://sourceforge.net/p/ogmrip/discussion/258034/thread/8d87ebef/

Here's how I built a deb package with the patch:
sudo apt-get install build-essential devscripts
sudo apt-get build-dep ogmrip
apt-get source ogmrip
cd ogmrip-1.0.1/
quilt import ~/Downloads/ogmrip-1.0.1-lavf\ \(1\).patch -P 03_lavf.diff
dpkg-buildpackage -b --no-sign
dpkg -i ../ogmrip_1.0.1-1build2_amd64.deb

[Bug 1563789] [NEW] Linked against Python2.7 version of boost causing mapnik to fail

2016-03-30 Thread Martin Leopold
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade a script using Mapnik from Python 2.7 to 3.5, but
instantiating the object fails with the following error. As far as I can tell
the problems stems from the fact that the Python 3 version of mapnik is linked
to the Python 2.7 version of boost (libboost_python-py27.so.1.58.0 as opposed
to libboost_python-py35.so.1.58.0):

[Bug 502373] [NEW] grubenv not updated with startpar or makefile set in rc

2010-01-02 Thread Martin Leopold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

Hi All,
In an attempt to speed up booting i set CONCURRENCY to startpar in
/etc/init.d/rc, this however resulted in undesired sideeffect - namely that
grub2 stalls on the following boot.

I've been poking arround and to me it seems that the recordfail
parameter in the grubenv is not reset by the script /etc/init.d/grub-
common on a successfull boot. This seems similar to earlier bugreports
pointing to a faulty /etc/network/interfaces file as the source of the
problem, but this file seems just fine in my case.

Is it possible that there is a new variant of this problem pertaining to
the CONCURRENCY parameter?

Best regards,
Martin Leopold

[Bug 378321] [NEW] Acroread installs in opt (break if opt is not local)

2009-05-19 Thread Martin Leopold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acroread

Hi All,
After a recent upgrade I found that acroread can no-longer be installed on my
system. It turns out that acroread now wants to live in /opt, which in my case
is an nfs volume (Intrepid and Jaunty seems to work the same way).

I'm not entirely sure whether this violates any policies, but in my
recollection /opt is commenly not used by Ubuntu - so from my point of view
this is new and undesired behavior. I couldn't find a description of the Ubuntu
file system hierarchy the best I could find was a Debian overview, which
reserves /opt for non-deb installs:
http://wiki.debian.org/FilesystemHierarchyStandard

Thanks in advance,
Martin Leopold.

[Bug 219382] Re: fsck not run on boot if on battery power

2009-05-05 Thread Martin Leopold
Hi all,
This has further implications when using jfs as root (I am): jfs will only
mount as read-only when it is dirty. This means that after a crash the system
is un-bootable if running on battery power.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to force a check at boot time that
will allow me to boot my system.

[Bug 369787] [NEW] Disable file system check at boot time

2009-04-30 Thread Martin Leopold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initscripts

Hi,
I would very much like to see the following feature: a way to disable the
filesystem check's at boot time. This could be done for example by adding a
command line paramenter to the kernel or similar.

The checkroot.sh and checkfs.sh scripts allready abort file system
checks if /fastboot is available, but this requires, that I'm able to
boot the system and create the /fastboot file, which may be incovennient
or impossible in some cases.

[Bug 347477] [NEW] Documentation lists ext3 as the only supportted filesystem

2009-03-23 Thread Martin Leopold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sreadahead

Hi All.
I noticed that the 1.0 changelog mentions that this release works on other
filesystems than ext3, but package description still says that it's ext3 only.
I assume this is a mistake.

[Bug 92034] Re: Printer detection failed w. parallel port printer and USB-parallel port adaptor

2008-11-06 Thread Martin Leopold
Hi Adam.
Thank you for taking the time to review the bug report. I can't recall what
version of Ubuntu I used at that point in time, but I've just retested my old
printer and using Intrepid the printer is automagically configured (and
working) when pluged in. Same goes for foomatic-gui - both now choose the
usb://HP url.

I'm changeing the status to fixed.

- Martin

[Bug 203687] Re: Error copying file to bluetooth device

2008-06-24 Thread Martin Leopold
Hi all.
I have the same problem - what is puzzling me is that this used to work just
fine prior upgrading to Hardy!?

Is this a problem that is being worked on or is there other application
in Ubuntu to browse and upload files?

Regards,
Martin Leopold.

Hi All
I'm experiencing the same issue on every third of fourth login - changing
xinitrc does not seem to make a difference in my case.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 128452 ***

In the mean time this is configurable throug gconf. Start the gconf editor and
look for the following key:
  /apps/gnome-power-manager/backlight/idle_dim_time

Changing this to something higher solves the problem for me (even though this
is not flawless for everyone, see Bug #151018).

[Bug 156084] Re: Acer laptop: Suspend broken in Gutsy [regression]

2007-11-16 Thread Martin Leopold
For my laptop it seems the problem can be worked around with the boot
parameter ec_intr=0 as hinted by this comment[1] to Bug #50031 [2] which
also points to the ThinkWiki with a short explanation[3]

For me the problem persists, hibernate is close to useless on this
machine. Following the advice on other bug reports here's some
additional information. The dmesg is from a fresh boot.

[Bug 156084] Re: Acer laptop: Suspend broken in Gutsy [regression]

2007-11-06 Thread Martin Leopold
This is a dump of dmesg after a successful suspend/resume cycle. As opposed to
the guide I used hibernate instead of sleep - since this is what is causing me
problems. I can't really attach a log after a failed attempt since the machine
simple hangs indefinately.
sync; echo 1 /sys/power/pm_trace ; /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh

[Bug 156084] Re: Acer laptop: Suspend broken in Gutsy [regression]

2007-10-25 Thread Martin Leopold
After a Feisty-Gusty upgrade I have a similar problem with an IBM X41
tablet.

The suspend-to-disk operation seems to take fairly long, but eventually
finishes. On resume the boot procedure reaches the Ubuntu splash screen
and then stalls indefinitely. Using the suspend key or echo disk
/sys/power/state results in the same scenario. I noticed some
suggestions elsewhere that this could be related to the graphics driver
(the laptop uses i915) - however stopping X does not seem to make a
difference.

For me it seems that changing HIBERNATE_MODE to shutdown in
/etc/default/acpi-support is slightly more successful. On a fresh boot
the machine can reliably suspend/resume, but repeating the operation
causes it to hang on resume every now and then.

[Bug 125651] Myspell-da does not support compund words in OOo

2007-07-12 Thread Martin Leopold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: myspell-da

Hi All.
The current versions of myspell-da for feisty (1.4.52) and gusty (1.4.60) (with
source package dsdo) are outdated for
current versions of OpenOffice. The 1.4 series of dsdo does not support
compound words in the appropriate way for OOo.

The upstream versions 1.6 and 1.7 fixes the problem - apparently the
recommended version at this time is 1.6.6:
