[Bug 1724317] Re: Shutdown hangs / no standby - possible Wifi-bug in the kernel

2017-11-09 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I just updated to Lubuntu 17.10 and experienced this issue. I have a
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 card, and kernel version 4.13.0-16-generic had
this same issue. I reverted back to 4.10.0-38-generic and the problem
went away.

I'm waiting for the next kernel release to see if that solves the
problem.

[Bug 1446247] Re: Lubuntu 15.04 - No power indicator in applet indicator

2015-05-03 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I have the same exact issue. I recently upgraded to 15.04. I had the
power indicator icon in 14.10, but it disappeared when I upgraded.

I was doing some searching online, and found a lot of people suggesting
to going into the xfce4-power-manager-settings and setting Show tray
icon: to Always show icon. Some of this information is a couple years
old, so it is possible that the answer no longer applies.

When I open xfce4-power-manager-settings, the Show tray icon option
does not appear.

More online research led me to the following configuration file:
~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml

It looks like older versions of this file had a Show tray icon option
[see https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=8786], but the one
installed in 15.04 does not.

Either this option is no longer supported, or someone left it out
accidentally.

Maybe this can lead someone towards a solution for this problem.

[Bug 902557] Re: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)

2013-02-28 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I've been having issues with the realtek wireless on my Toshiba
Satellite L645 running lubuntu 12.10.

I want to try and install the latest driver from realtek's website,
0012.0207.2013 -
http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1PNid=21PFid=48Level=5Conn=4DownTypeID=3GetDown=falseDownloads=true#2722
-, but would prefer not to do it from source. There is a ppa for realtek
drivers, but it hasn't been updated in a while:
https://launchpad.net/~lexical/+archive/hwe-wireless

Are there any other methods of installing the driver without installing
from source? I'm mainly worried about how it will interact with linux-
backports-modules-cw-3.6-quantal-generic and making sure that if I need
to uninstall it, I can do it successfully.

Is there another PPA that supplies this driver?

[Bug 768496] [NEW] Rotate in place doesn't work, doesn't display error

2011-04-21 Thread Menachem Shapiro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: feh

I'm have the following installed:
Ubuntu 10.10
feh 1.7-1
libjpeg-progs 8b-1
exiftran 2.07-3

When I try to rotate an image using feh's inplace editing (right-
clicking the image, and chosing Rotate 90 CW for example), nothing
happens. The picture does not rotate.

Feh does not display any error message, but when I run feh from the command
line, I get the following error message (the picture I'm trying to rotate is
called p165.jpg:

jpegtran: can't open p165.jpg for writing
feh WARNING: lossless rotate: Got exitcode 1 from jpegtran. Commandline was:
jpegtran -copy all -rotate -1076465748 -outfile p165.jpg p165.jpg

When I try to run the jpegtran command directly from the command line,
all I get is the help menu, so the command feh is trying to run isn't
working for some reason.

[Bug 768496] Re: Rotate in place doesn't work, doesn't display error

2011-04-21 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I just figured out what the problem was. The pictures were read-only
(since I copied them from a CD), and feh was silently failing when
trying to rotate the image.

Making the pictures writable solved the problem, but it would have been
nice if feh had given some kind of indication as to why it failed (or
perhaps even disable the options that don't work when the picture is
read-only).

I will try to update the bug report to reflect this.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: feh

  I'm have the following installed:
  Ubuntu 10.10
  feh 1.7-1
  libjpeg-progs 8b-1

all I get is the help menu, so the command feh is trying to run isn't
  working for some reason.
+
+ Edited to add:
+ The reason for this error was that the file I was trying to rotate was
read-only. However, feh didn't give any indication of what the problem was, it
just failed silently. It would be nice if there was some kind of indication why
the action failed, or perhaps the options shouldn't be available when the
picture cannot be written.

** Summary changed:

- Rotate in place doesn't work, doesn't display error
+ Rotate in place fails silently when the picture is read-only

[Bug 599434] Re: Atheros AR928X wireless card not working after suspend

2010-06-29 Thread Menachem Shapiro
This is a bug in Network Manager. I recently experienced it and found the fix
on the Ubuntu Forums, here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=932postcount=4

to quote:
---
Check both of these, should be:

/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf

[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile

[ifupdown]
managed=true

---
and

/var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state

[main]
NetworkingEnabled=true
WirelessEnabled=true
WWANEnabled=true
--

For some reason, when I restarted Network Manager after suspend, some of
the settings were set to false instead of true. This is why
networking was disabled.

I changed them back to true and then restarted the computer. When I
rebooted wireless was working again. (There probably is a way to do it
without rebooting, but just restarting NetworkManager didn't work for
me)

2009-06-29 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I found a bug report on hellanzb's website that describes the same bug:
http://hellanzb.com/trac/hellanzb/ticket/429

One of the comments links to another bug report of the similar issue:
http://hellanzb.com/trac/hellanzb/ticket/429

In the comments to that bug report, they find that if the nzb file fed
to hellanzb includes an nzb file, hellanzb will hang after downloading
everything. I have confirmed that this is the case. In all the nzb files
that hang after transfer, an nzb file was also downloaded.

[Bug 381318] [NEW] hellanzb hangs after transfering - doesn't unrar or move to done

2009-05-28 Thread Menachem Shapiro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hellanzb

I am running jaunty with hellanzb version 0.13-3ubuntu4

Every once in a while, I will have an nzb that just hangs after
transfering files are complete. Hellanzb doesn't unrar the file or move
the files to the done folder without doing anything. It just sits there
saying Transfered...etc. The files themselves stay in the
daemon.processing/ folder until I do something with them manually. If I
Ctrl-C to exit hellanzb and then restart it, it starts the download over
again (probably because the nzb file is still in the daemon.current/
folder)

This doesn't happen with every nzb, but I am able to reproduce it with
specific nzb files.

Here is some informtation about the latest file I was able to get it with:
I got the nzb file from here: http://www.tvnzb.com/nzb/21713

[Bug 233900] Re: hellanzb queues NZBs but does not download

I just tried using hellanzb in Intrepid, but the fix mentioned above did
not work.

Instead, I used the a

fix mentioned in the hellanzb bug tracker thread/a (copied below).

This change enabled me to use hellanzb in Intrepid. According to the
thread, it is also the way Gentoo fixed the problem.

[Bug 233900] Re: hellanzb queues NZBs but does not download

2008-09-26 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I looked at the Debian package changelog on the package page
(http://packages.qa.debian.org/h/hellanzb.html) and it appears that the
fix has not been integrated into Debian's package. It was reported on
August 18, 2008 (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495518), but it has not been integrated into the
Debian package. If it has not been integrated into the Debian package,
it will not end up in Intrepid (unless Ubuntu puts it in themselves).

[Bug 250243] [NEW] incorrect or misleading info in zip help text

2008-07-20 Thread Menachem Shapiro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zip

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 and using zip version 2.32-1

The help text zip displays says this:
Copyright (c) 1990-2006 Info-ZIP - Type 'zip -L' for software license.
Zip 2.32 (June 19th 2006). Usage:
zip [-options] [-b path] [-t mmdd] [-n suffixes] [zipfile list] [-xi list]

It doesn't say anything about where to put the archive name argument in
order to get the files zipped up. The zip man page does say it, but the
command line help output doesn't.

[Bug 233900] [NEW] hellanzb queues NZBs but does not download

2008-05-21 Thread Menachem Shapiro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hellanzb

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy)
hellanzb version 0.13-3

When I run Hellanzb and import and NZB, it will queue the nzb, but it
won't download the files.

I found the same bug reported here:
http://www.hellanzb.com/trac/hellanzb/ticket/393

I followed the directions in Comment 6, and the problem was solved:
http://www.hellanzb.com/trac/hellanzb/ticket/393#comment:6

I edited the file
/usr/share/python-support/hellanzb/Hellanzb/NZBLeecher/Protocol.Py and right
below line 513 I added:
group = group.strip()

This solved the problem.

Hopefully someone will fix this problem and upload a new version of
hellanzb to the repositories.

[Bug 114552] Digikam hangs with Progress Dialog when deleting files

2007-05-13 Thread Menachem Shapiro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

When Ubuntu Feisty came out, I did a clean install (the Gnome based
version) and then installed digikam from the ubuntu repository. I am now
experiencing a problem that I did not have with edgy.

Basically, when I delete a picture (either by hitting the delete key or
right clicking the picture and choosing to move it to trash), The delete
Progress Dialog just hangs there for a long time and the photo doesn't
delete. After a while I close the dialog box. Sometime the picture then
deletes, and other times the picture does not delete. If the picture
does delete, I am then able to delete further pictures without a
problem.

I don't think this happens 100% of the time, but it happens most of the
time. I don't know if this is a settings issue or something else.

The only nonstandard setting I have is that I deleted
~/.local/share/Trash/files and then I created a symbolic link from
~/.Trash to ~/.local/share/Trash/files.

[Bug 63865] Re: screen freeze returning from xscreensaver

2007-03-08 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I am running Dapper and have the same issue. The screen freezes but I am
still able to ssh into the machine, as well as access SAMBA shares.
Although I would describe it as freezing while using xscreensaver, as
opposed to freezing when returning from xscreensaver, since the
screensaver itself freezes as well.

I then have to reboot the computer in order to access X again.

xorg.conf tells me that the video card is a Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA
G400 AGP.

I will try to attach my xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log, and dmesg output. Let me
know if you need anything else.

[Bug 75435] Re: Gnome and KDE trash are incompatible. Was: usdigikam expects trash to be in ~/Desktop/Trash - causes error in Ubuntu

2007-03-08 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I checked, and kdebase-kio-plugins was not installed, so I installed it.

Now my KDE trash is located in ~/.local/share/Trash/files, and
deleting pictures in digikam moves them there.

In order to have KDE and Gnome apps use the same trash, can I just
delete ~/.local/share/Trash/files, and then link ~/.Trash to
~/.local/share/Trash/files? Will there be any repercussions to doing
this?

With regards to Gnome and KDE apps integration, is it considered a bug
that KDE apps on Ubuntu use a different Trash than Gnome apps?

Should kdebase-kio-plugins be added as a dependency for digikam?

Here is the output of the commands. As you can see, I also don't have
a Desktop/trash.desktop directory.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo $XDG_DATA_HOME

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ kde-config --path xdgdata-dirs

/home/mshapiro/.local/share/applications/:/usr/share/applications/
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /home/mshapiro/Desktop/trash.desktop
cat: /home/mshapiro/Desktop/trash.desktop: No such file or directory

I just copied your trash.desktop into a file on my desktop and got
this error message when starting digikam (the program still started):

kio (KService*): WARNING: The desktop entry file
/usr/share/applications/DefaultPlugins.desktop has Type=Link instead
of Application or Service
kio (KService*): WARNING: Invalid Service :
/usr/share/applications/DefaultPlugins.desktop

I was not able to use digikam to delete a picture.

What should the permissions for ~/.local and ~/.local/share be? I got:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -ld .local/
drwx-- 3 mshapiro mshapiro 4096 2006-04-23 06:36 .local/

and the same for ~/.local/share as well.

 Nevertheless creating a soft link

 ln -s ~/.Trash ~/.local/share/Trash

should fix your problem (tested here works fine.
Gnome trash gets the counting wrong from because it
does not understand the XDG draft but that's cosmetic.)

Creating ~/.local/share/Trash did not work, it still failed. If the
permissions are wrong for ~/.local, that might explain why.

Before I start, I want to say that since I posted this bug, I upgraded
to digikam 0.9.0, using your unofficial packages at

Can you check that you 'trashed' images from digikam really end up in
 ~/.Trash and not below ~/.local/share/Trash/* ?

I don't have a Trash folder in ~/.local/share/Trash. All I have is an
applications folder.

is there anything suspect written to the termial

I just deleted the ~/Desktop/Trash symbolic link and tried deleting a

OggS-SEEK: at 47040 want 1032 got 0 (diff-requested -46008)

What method are you using to delete picture?
o RMB over a thumbnail and 'Move to Trash'
o drag and drop to gnome trash icon
o or ...

RMB over a thumbnail and 'Move to Trash'.
Hitting the Delete Key in the digiKam Image Editor also gives the same error.

What's the output of 'digikam --version'?

Again, this is the output from the unofficial package, but:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ digikam --version
Qt: 3.3.6
KDE: 3.5.5
digiKam: 0.9.0

I hope this helps, as the problem seem to still be with 0.9.0.

[Bug 75435] digikam expects trash to be in ~/Desktop/Trash - causes error in Ubuntu

2006-12-11 Thread Menachem Shapiro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

I am using digikam version 0.8.2-2ubuntu1 in Ubuntu (Gnome based). I
tried to delete a picture and got an error message saying could not
rename file FILENAME (where FILENAME was the name of the file it was
trying to delete).

I looked around and found this bug report on KDE's site:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123120

In the comments on the bug, someone advises to link ~/.Trash to
~/Desktop/Trash. Doing so solves the problem, and deleting the file is
possible.

I am assuming that this is because KDE (and Kubuntu) uses
~/Desktop/Trash as the trashcan, while Gnome (and Ubuntu) uses ~/.Trash.

Can the program be tweaked to look for the trash in either place?
