image to display in Cheese, I found there was no display until I clicked
preferences and changed the photo and video resolution both to 320x240.

launcher, as expected, for me on Ubuntu 16.04 and 14.04. I haven't
tested it on 12.04 or 15.10.

I'm also having the flickering issue on my netbook and have attached a tar.gz
of the compiz-1 folder.
I haven't tried unity --reset or any of the other suggestions yet, so please

To add some further information, I don't get this error when booting
from a live USB created from the Lucid 10.04.1 LTS version. It only
started from 10.10 onwards. Please let me know if I should run the
apport-collect command from the 10.04.1 live USB version for comparison.
