Using "ubuntu" at log-in did not solve it.
A full power-cycle of the server did now resolve it. Before I did only reboots.
Looks like the BMC/Aspeed required a full power off to reset properly.

prompt produces the following output:

scanadf and scanadf-perl show the same error.
scanimage-perl and scanimage work correctly.
libsane-perl thinks that DIN-A4 is too large for the scanner (whyever).
A test with a smaller scansize worked.

After upgrade from 10.04 LTS to Meerkat beta today, X does not start
because fglrx kernel module was not built by fglrx installer.
Package fglrx is version 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4
# dpkg-reconfigure fglrx
exits with error and does not build the module
/var/lib/dkms/fglrx/8.723.
Have the same problem here with AMD64 under 9.10. It first worked well
and suddenly sync-ui crashes immediately with a segfault. The log shows

CIFS of 8.10 has problems with some versions of samba. The proposed work

I can confirm this bug which started on my installations with the
upgrade to 8.10. When I open an OOO Base file (.odb) via a smb share, I
can work with it fine. When I close OOO, the file gets saved with 0
bytes and is gone. The smb share is mounted via cifs and worked fine
before upgrading
