It happens after upgrading from ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. The laptop became
usable. I had to ssh in, and kill the lightdm. After that, I edited the
config file to auto login my user. It worked fine when I started lightdm
from command line.

I run update-manager from a root shell. Then, the partial-upgrade hung
for about an hour when it was trying to install the mysql server.
Then, I used Ctrl + c twice on the root shell to kill the update-
manager.
After that, I run update-manager again from the same root shell.

Ubuntu 8.04 did not have any suspension problem. I put my laptop to
suspend and it did not wake up correctly after I opened my lid. I waited
