[Bug 673021] Re: Graphviz version should be upgraded for Lucid

2013-04-27 Thread Morlok8k
13.10 still has graphviz at v2.26.3, which was released in 2010.

graphviz has an up to date PPA, but it's highest ubuntu version supported is
12.04.
trying to manually install it is a PITA, due to dependency issues.

I really would like to have at least 2.30 for it's new features. (the
latest stable version is 2.30.1, and it has daily builds as well)

In my opinion, graphviz should be like firefox chrome - no matter what
version of ubuntu you have, you have the latest firefox. I forget the
name of this category.

[Bug 1015417] [NEW] Totem doesnt release memory when going to next file

2012-06-20 Thread Morlok8k
Public bug reported:

queue up some video files (I first noticed this on some large (800MB) .mkv
files: 1080p, H264, 24fps, AAC audio)
bring up the system monitor, and watch the memory usage for totem go up and up
as the video plays.
at the end of the first video, memory usage is around 600-900MB. when the
second video starts playing, it will not drop down, but continue going up and
up.

My computer gets glitchy when it starts getting into the 900MB-1GB range
of memory usage, but thats a symptom of just not enough RAM, and the
fact that totem just doesnt release its memory usage (or at least not
fast enough, if it does at all)

My only option on these large video files is to: watch one, close totem,
and then watch another, and repeat.

[Bug 974242] Re: Compiz edge detection code is moving windows against my will

2012-05-21 Thread Morlok8k
I have the same bug, although my symptoms are slightly different than
explained here. I had created bug #986063, but it was marked as a
duplicate of this one.

See Bug #986063 for a description of what happens to me.
It only happens to me after a few days of my computer being on.

And I'll wait for an official patch as well...

you are correct, the option does appear after a reboot. I had not tried
this when i first discovered the bug.

I just thought to myself - huh? i can resize an icon? cool... lets try
it. then found out i couldn't revert it, except manually.

[Bug 986898] Re: Icons Privacy and Backup are swapped in System Settings

2012-04-24 Thread Morlok8k
yes, i noticed this too.

You would think that privacy would be the icon of the safe, and that
privacy would be the arrow around around the clock.

I also think that the sound icon would make more sense if it was a
speaker or something, not a knob.

And Online Accounts - i dont know what should replace that.

[Bug 971665] Re: Full system backup hangs at 100% and makes the whole system very unresponsive

2012-04-24 Thread Morlok8k
i have a similar situation. deja-dup-monitor will suck up 630MB of
RAM, and i have backups disabled! (i forget how much CPU it uses, but
it's not the 100% like the above person.)

I just kill it whenever my system starts to get unresponsive, as i dont
use backups. I do my own manual backups when i want to.

I have 4GB of ram, core 2 duo, 64Bit ubuntu 12.04.

[Bug 988169] [NEW] Icon Resize on desktop - Restore Size is unselectable

2012-04-24 Thread Morlok8k
Public bug reported:

In 12.04:

If you put an icon on the desktop (In Gnome Fallback mode) you can right click
and select resize icon.
This works fine.

However, once you again click on the now-resized icon, the text that
says Restore Icon's Original Size is not selectable.

You have to manually resize it by eye, and that may not be perfect.

Also, opening the desktop folder in a window, gives no options about
resizing - Similar to bug #402642

[Bug 986063] [NEW] Windows move on their own when i click on the desktop

2012-04-20 Thread Morlok8k
Public bug reported:

I dont know where the problem is, but i see it often.

I am using dual monitors.
Using Gnome fallback (classical mode)
Compiz is enabled and the special effects like wobbly windows are enabled.

I notice the following problem in multiple programs, but most often in
the two i use most: Totem Movie Player and Vuze.

I will be using a program and then click on the desktop or another
program. the window of the first program will move on its own,
somewhere else on the same screen. each time i click somewhere that is
not inside the first program, the window will move. sometimes it will
move to the top of the screen, sometimes to the bottom, usually it tries
to travel to the right in addition to either up or down.after it gets to
the right edge, it pops to the left side of the same monitor.

if i close Vuze (it hides to the tray) and reopen it, everything is fine again
for a few hours. or if its another program, i close it and reopen it, it will
be fine.
Sometimes the problem will go away if i continue to use the program for a bit
longer and then click away.

Totem movie player has its own unique twist when i encounter the problem with
it.
Say i just opened a video on my left monitor. i double click on the movie to
make it full-screen, and then go back to my work on my right monitor (primary).
i click on something. the fullscreen movie immediately pops over to my right
screen! i double click it to go back to windows mode, and its on my left
screen again. rinse repeat.

This only stopped popping on my right screen when i told it to go to
fullscreen using [F11] instead of double clicking. (i didnt need to
close the program this time.)

i have also seen lifera move around in both ways. in a window it will move
around the monitor it currently is on, or when maximized, it will pop between
monitors.

really, the only program i use often that i haven't seen move is
whatever program shows open folders (Nautilus? idk). but maybe it has,
i'm not sure.

[Bug 974603] Re: notification-daemon crashed with signal 5 in g_variant_get_boolean()

2012-04-13 Thread Morlok8k
Same issue. I just downloaded a file in chromium, when i saw the
notification thing flash in the corner, then the error report program
came up.

I think the message was going to be the one where it says its uploading
the file to Ubuntu One.

got the bug again, when i got the file sync complete message. i was
actually able to read it for a couple of seconds before it crashed
though.

I think i might uninstall notifications... i've always hated them
anyways.

[Bug 979545] Re: package lightdm 1.2.0-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2012-04-12 Thread Morlok8k
i finally was able to get a GUI login screen after i logged in via
ALT+F2.

i installed lightdm and gdm.
i set lightdm to be used (dpkg-reconfigure lightdm)
i typed in sudo lightdm
it didnt work. no error message - just brought me back to the original
boot-text screen
ALT-F2
sudo reboot now
Still didnt work.
ALT-F2
i set gdm to be used
i typed sudo gdm
Login screen works!
rebooted
GDM showed up!

So, basically, lightdm did not work at all for me (its ok, i prefer gdm anyways)
But I need to have it installed for GDM to work (which was not the case for
11.10).

Without lightdm, i could not get GDM to work, even when configured to
use GDM.

It hangs with boot text on screen.
i have to do ALT-F2, log in with my name and pass
then enter startx at the terminal

I've reinstalled it a few times at the command line, did dpkg-reconfigure
lightdm (and gdm)

[Bug 874238] Re: New scrollbars do not work in Eclipse

2011-11-02 Thread Morlok8k
editing /usr/share/applications/eclipse.desktop to change the
following line was a lifesaver!

Exec=bash -c LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 eclipse

Just using the scroll wheel in eclipse was torture in long files!
