The above workaround at post 117 also works for the Epson V300.

Another workaround is to install this ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-git

And launch Iscan with sudo iscan.

2016-11-22 Thread Neil Gunther
I'm also experiencing this bug in 16.10 with Gnome PPA's installed
though. It seemed to occur when I upgraded the kernel to 4.8.1 with
synaptic. Since then I can only boot into a Wayland session and can't
launch synaptic either, though I can install other package managers.

[Bug 1309969] Re: Garbled display on 14.04 with ATI Radeon HD 7750

2014-04-25 Thread Neil Gunther
Hi how to

I'm also experiencig this problem. Was your installation an upgrade or
a fresh install? I experienced the same problem on an upgrade but after
a fresh install I could log on, but the card now cuts out after a few
minutes/secs.

I've tried the fglrx driver but experience the cut out issue. When I
get 5mins I'll install the linux non-free firmware and the fglrx
updates. The card might need the firmware to run the window system
according to the Debian wiki's.

[Bug 1178534] Re: error processing grub-efi-amd64 (2.00-13ubuntu3) in 13.04

2013-07-02 Thread Neil Gunther
Hi

I'm experiencing the same problem with Grub uefi. My system is a single OS rig
with Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 installed using the 3.10 kernel (issues with a 7750
graphics card!). The Grub issue was also present before I upgraded the kernel
from the Ubuntu kernel ppa.

My system boots OK but wont upgrade Grub and other than some unrelated
performance issues works fine. Having done some research people appear
to be having similar issues with Grub.

When I checked in Synaptic a number of Grub related packages were
installed some of which appear to be unnecessary. Obviously I didn't
want to delete them and make my system unbootable, but was wondering
which packages are required.

Neil

[Bug 991932] Re: Logitech Unifying Receiver can't reset device

2012-06-07 Thread Neil Gunther
Really odd- I never had a problem with the K350 on 11.10 but
periodically on 12.04 64bit this issue crops up. The Logitech mouse I've
got is not an issue.

If anyone wants me to try anything to resolve this- I'll give it a go.

2012-05-27 Thread Neil Gunther
Has anyone had any suuccess installing the ia32 libs on a 64 bit system?

I've tried Synaptic, sudo apt-get install -f, Gdebi, Software Centre, etc
but all to no avail.

I became aware that it was an issue when trying to install Google Earth
6.2. The dependencies were installed on 11.10 but when I ugraded my
system the packages had been deleted and not substituted with more
recent versions.
