[Bug 1132479] Re: No text visible after recent updates in Raring
I've managed to apply the patch in the fedora bug report, and it seems to work (atleast for me), which was a relief since xiphos just isn't the same. Save the attachment, then run tar -xvzf patch.tar.gz chmod u+x patch.sh cat patch.sh ./patch.sh This will install the various dependencies required to build it -- hopefully I have them all, and build and install the new version The tarball also contains the output of diff describing the change made to the source, and the modified source file bibletime-2.9.1/src/frontend/display/bthtmlreaddisplay.cpp ** Attachment added: The corrected code and a script to build the working version https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bibletime/+bug/1132479/+attachment/3684862/+files/patch.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1132479 Title: No text visible after recent updates in Raring To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bibletime/+bug/1132479/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 819676] Re: Missing required argument to Append command
I have a similar problem (on 11.04, KDE updated through the backport PPA). It also devoured my emails. When I turned on the spam/anti-virus filters, it deleted them from the IMAP server (my email provider is GMX), ran the checks, then tried to upload them back to the server and I got a similar message; could not upload the message ... unexpected end of data. The net result was that the email was deleted, and was not present either on my computer or the server. I lost a few days of emails, until I found a work-around (firstly using thunderbird to read email, then switching off the spam/anti-virus filters on kmail). dpkg -l | grep kdepim ii kdepim 4:4.4.10-0ubuntu4 Personal Information Management apps from the official KDE release ii kdepim-groupware 4:4.4.10-0ubuntu4 KDE PIM Groupware plugins ii kdepim-kresources 4:4.4.10-0ubuntu4 KDE PIM resource plugins ii kdepim-runtime 4:4.4.10-0ubuntu2 Runtime components for akonadi-kde ii kdepim-strigi-plugins 4:4.4.10-0ubuntu4 PIM file format plugins for Strigi Desktop Search ii kdepim-wizards 4:4.4.10-0ubuntu4 KDE server configuration wizards ii kdepimlibs-kio-plugins 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu1~natty1~ppa1 kio slaves used by KDE PIM applications ii libkdepim4 4:4.4.10-0ubuntu4 KDE PIM library -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/819676 Title: Missing required argument to Append command To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdepim/+bug/819676/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282556] Re: [Intrepid] Kubuntu: New device notifier does not recognise digital camera
I'm running KDE 4.2 on Intrepid via the Backports/ppa's (I'm not sure which, I have both repositories enabled). The last time I used my camera, which was after 4.2 final came out, I was asked whether I wanted to download the photos with digikam (I'm also asked this whatever media I insert, which is somewhat annoying). However, there still seemed to be no way to unmount the camera via plasma after I had downloaded the photos (the eject button didn't appear in the new device notifier, neither could I unmount the device in Dolphin). As before, I had to use a GNOME application. I don't plan to upgrade to jaunty until after the beta is released, and I'll try to remember to check this bug again then. -- [Intrepid] Kubuntu: New device notifier does not recognise digital camera https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde4libs in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 291074] Re: memory leak in Network Manager Intrepid
I only see this every few days or so, and it only comes on one particular network. My guess is that Network Manager encounters a glitch in the network of some description, exits from its main routine without freeing some memory, goes into the error handling routine, prints a message to say there was a problem to the syslog, then returns to its main routine, encounters the glitch again, and so on, printing about 100 000 syslog errors until I notice the problem and kill it. I had a quick look at the source code a few weeks ago, without making much progress (because a) I'm not familiar with certain libraries used, and b) I'm not a very good programmer c) I haven't had any time to study this in detail), but I did notice that the error handling routine in Network Manager was the following: static void nm_error_monitoring_device_link_state (NMNetlinkMonitor *monitor, GError *error, gpointer user_data) { /* FIXME: Try to handle the error instead of just printing it. */ nm_warning (error monitoring wired ethernet link state: %s\n, error-message); } Which doesn't look very good. Even asking it to sleep for a few seconds here, giving the network time to recover from whatever its problem was, would probably stop it getting too badly out of control (although it would obviously be best to find and fix the memory leak). As a workaround, I have implemented the following script and set it as a cron job to run every 5 minutes: put the following into /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh: #!/bin/sh #script to kill NetworkManager if it gets too resource hungry #check how much percentage memory nm is using, put it into x x=`ps -e -o pmem -o comm | grep NetworkManager | awk '{printf(%d\n,$1)}' ` #echo $x | awk '{printf(%d\n,$1)}' #if nm is using more than 5% of the memory, kill and restart it if(test `echo $x | awk '{printf(%d\n,$1)}'` -ge 5); then echo `date`:NetworkManager.sh: I'm about to kill NetworkManager pmem = $x | logger killall -9 NetworkManager sleep 10 NetworkManager fi ___ Then using sudo crontab -u root -e insert the following into the crontab 02 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 07 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 12 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 17 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 22 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 27 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 32 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 37 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 42 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 47 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 52 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh 57 * * * * /usr/sbin/NetworkManager.sh It's not at all elegant, but it seems to work. -- memory leak in Network Manager Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291074 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 291074] [NEW] memory leak in Network Manager Intrepid
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I don't know if this is the original problem, but I'm also suffering from a network manager memory leak on occasion. It's happened 4 times now in the past week and a half (in Intrepid), just using a wired connection and running KDE. [Bug 282556] [NEW] [Intrepid] Kubuntu: New device notifier does not recognise digital camera
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libplasma2 I'm using kubuntu intrepid with KDE 4.1.2 I tried importing photos from two canon cameras (Pwoershot S1); however they were not detected by the new device notifier. I was able to import the photos easily using dolphin or F-Spot (presumably digikam would also work but that somehow got uninstalled when I upgraded from Hardy remix to intrepid). However, it would be better for a newcomer if it was more obvious how to access the camera (a popup saying open camera in Dolphin would be great), and secondly once I had mounted the volume, there was no obvious way to unmount it in KDE: in the end, I used nautilus. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Intrepid] Kubuntu: New device notifier does not recognise digital camera https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm not observing the problem in firefox-3.0. firefox 2 was removed from my system in an earlier update. -- Firefox drag and drop causes system freeze with reflection plugin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147018 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Then boot into the -12 Kernel (adjusting /boot/grub/menu.list to do it automatically if it works), adjust the mixers, and if you are lucky, you will have sound.
