Re: [Bug 505518] Re: package winbind 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-03-02 Thread Norman Crabbe
I am continually being asked by update manager to install an important
security update to Winbind. Always getting:-
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/winbind_2%3a3.4.0-3ubuntu5.4_i386.deb:
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

I cannot install latest OpenOffice, suspect because of the same cause.

This seems to be the same error as 505518, how do I overcome this?

Regards.

Re: [Bug 505518] Re: package winbind 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-02-25 Thread Norman Crabbe
Update Manager continually tries to install an important security update
to winbind and always fails with the following error:-

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/winbind_2%3a3.4.0-3ubuntu5.4_i386.deb:
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

I cannot upgrade Open Office to 3.2, it returns an error.

Previous reported errors seem to be related .

How can I resolve this?

[Bug 495424] Re: Ran automatic updates. Left system for a while, on return it had tried to reboot & hung, had to recover

2009-12-11 Thread Norman Crabbe
More information:- This all started last night when I saw a warning
triangle in the top panel. I clicked on it, this caused update manager
to run - this was not an "automatic" update notification as I originally
described. I think the update manager then gave a long list of (greyed
out) applications - I really don't remember whether the list came up
first or after I asked it to check. I then requested install and then I
left the system for a while.

I have now rediscovered sudo su.

[Bug 495424] Re: Ran automatic updates. Left system for a while, on return it had tried to reboot & hung, had to recover

2009-12-11 Thread Norman Crabbe
Looking at the reported detail above reminds me that on recovery the
error to winbind occurred, & is probably not the cause of the original
problem.

[Bug 495424] [NEW] Ran automatic updates. Left system for a while, on return it had tried to reboot & hung, had to recover

2009-12-11 Thread Norman Crabbe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Tried to restart but eventually did a recovery reboot. This went to
command line, asked to restart. I'm ashamed to say that I cannot
remember the root password, so forced computer shutdown on power
button. Restarted, the system did fsck, then on logging on there was a
message briefly to the effect that an upgrade had failed, this led me
down the path to Launchpad. Hopefully the data collected tells you which
package failed.
