ok, my workaround described in #5 works without removing the power
cable and seems to be desktop independent. Just go to sleep (suspend to
RAM) twice and the problem is gone. Tested with LXDE and KDE on Kubuntu
Natty.
Any hints about how to narrow down, what does change with the second
sleep and
after the double standby, every further standby toggles the problematic
behavior on/off.

undocking, don't know if this is important)

i am experiencing the same freeze problem on the same ThinkPad model
(with an Intel 965GM video chipset) after updating from 10.10 to 11.04 .
I can't say that the system is unresponsive, but it freezes periodical
every 10 seconds for around one second.
Selecting an old (pre upgrade) kernel

In Kubuntu Karmic Beta, UXA is enabled by default, right? (No xorg.conf, I am
slightly confused).
But there are these four lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

There is no screen flashing or brightness changing like described in the other
bug. Only the whole Plasma and KWin and all window stuff is disappearing
completely (without flashing back or something).

If no Standby is involved (just unplug power and plug it in again),

After switching, the screen is black, and with a period of approximately 30
sec, the screen backlight turns off and on (notebook display). If I am hitting
ALT+PRINT+K, I can return to my previous session with
just upgraded to xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.7.0-1ubuntu2~xup~1.
Problem is still there.

ok, I did not see the Python traceback. After a 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'
everything works fine.

Has anyone else been able to confirm what chimaster wrote? (with or

I finally got my box up, running, stable with a downgraded X someone
linked to above, but it's unfortunately slow as sin and I'm hoping maybe
the newer drivers would provide better 2D support under Xinerama.

As a followup, switching to a TwinView setup only works if Xinerama
stays off completely - If I turn on TwinView on each of the two cards
and turn in Xinerama the problem will still appear.
If I leave Xinerama off - and so end up with two X screens each of which
is spread over two monitors, the
Ibex + Xinerama seems to be common to everyone affected. I updated the
name of the bug to reflect that. Maybe this will trigger someone to take
a look..

That sounds like the same problem, I've searched all over the the forums
and the Internet in general for anyone with a work around and can't come
up with anything.
Seeing as it really seems to be somehow triggered by window focus
changes, I switched from focus-follows-mouse to
I tried switching to a TwinView configuration but unfortunately I can't
get it to work correctly in terms of positioning maximizing windows
(which is more painful than it sounds - everything appears, by default
between 2 monitors including notifications and popups)

On my ThinkPad X31 with the same VGA card, the boot splash didn't work
too, the bootup procedure takes a very long time. With kernel option
nosplash the bootup time is much shorter.
