[Bug 1633839] Re: No symbol table. Press any key to continue
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1620678 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1620678 My root partition is on /dev/sdb. So changing the above command into sudo grub-install /dev/sdb sudo update-grub sudo reboot did the trick. By the way, fresh install of Xubuntu 17.04 on reformatted partition. This bug stems from upgrading Xubuntu 16.04 to 16.10 and it apparently survived the formatting process. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1633839 Title: No symbol table. [Bug 882570] Re: dash file search: no indication about paths
Martin, Thanks for your time to start with. To reproduce this problem, one needs two files with the same name on the pc. This is the case when one rsync's certain directories to another drive. Use dash to search for a file: -- click on the Dash home button on the left side of the screen or hit the Super key on the keyboard -- type in the Search field the first two letters of a file name -- because I have backups of my files on another drive, two files are suggested. Here is where the problem starts, as I can't find out which one is the original and which one is the backup. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882570 Title: dash file search: no indication about paths To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dash/+bug/882570/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 882570] [NEW] dash file search: no indication about paths
Public bug reported: I have backup files on a second drive in my pc. When I use dash to search for a file, it always shows two entries of a certain file, one in say /home/paul/work, the other in /media/hd250/backup. It happend to me several times the last days that I discovered that I was working on an backup file. In case of a file with lots of passwords, this is really a very bad thing. So show up the path of the file somewhere, or add a filter that only shows results from this_drive or that_drive or both drives. Regards, Paul. [Bug 882570] Re: dash file search: no indication about paths
Update. Tonight I noticed that my work from today (on two articles) was replaced by the rsync backup of yesterday. Apparently I have been working today on the backup files of yesterday, without me knowing that / without Ubuntu informing me about that, after having opened them via dash. 1. This is an urgent issue. 2. Workaround: stop using dash to access files until this problem is solved. Use Nautilus instead. Other users with backups on the same machine should be informed about this.
