@VangelistX: Thanks, I think the problematic version was
2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4 and xorg-edgers package was version 5. The latest seems
to be 2:2.6.30ubuntu8 — I'm just going to update to that. As far as I am

Never mind the silly question, I think I figured it out already (removed

Jean-Baptiste,
thank you and I'm sorry, your feedback from Dec 7th seems to have
slipped my attention. Joanmataro's comments caught it again.
I tried sudo apt-get install --reinstall module-init-tools a moment

Once again, I reproduced the bug. I changed from my custom DustyFox to
DarkRoom and the same symptoms occurred. I rebooted, observed that
DarkRoom did not look as expected but rather as a mixture of DarkRoom

Sorry about the latter part of the previous message — I got badly

X crash: (WW) intel(0): Existing errors found in hardware state.
I tested the HDD on a much more recent PC, Dell Optiplex 755 with Intel
82Q35 Express Integrated Graphics Controller, and could still reproduce
the problem.
The error message contained the following addition to the earlier line:
(EE)Intel(0): Unable to write to SDVOCTRL_E for SDVOB Slave 0x70.
By the way, I added the line *Driver intel* to xorg.conf again, during
the failsafe session. I thought such a change would be persistent (see
above), but I seem to have been mistaken (I'm a non-technical user and a
near novice). At the moment I'm writing this on the same setup, but in a

Browsing the files on the phone and sending from Ubuntu still do not

I would be happy to test again with both the Ubuntu-provided package and
yours, but I'm afraid I will be unable to do that before Sunday or next
week. So if you can wait a few days, I will (1) check that all services
using obex are killed and re-try the command and post the output, and
