This is with Ubuntu Mate, the daily image as of about 9am UTC 12/04/2024 as
well as some versions downloaded at other times.
Last one I have verified the problem still exists with has SHA256 sum, I
haven't tried newer yet doe to lack of time:
Several bugs I'm on the list for have been retrospectively marked as
'Critical' after being closed as fixed. There may be a good reason for
this in each case, but given that several of them had no priority set or
were a lower priority and had been left unsolved for quite some time it
does look
I've found a way to get this to work, at least on my machine. I simply
downloaded and manually installed the latest BOINC software direct from
Berkeley. The versions in the ubuntu repository and the PPA i tried do
not work, but the berkely version does. This is with the default ATI
drivers
This is still a bug and is a regression on previous hardware support. It
has a usable workaround:
Unloading (rmmod uvcvideo) and reloading (modprobe uvcvideo) the
uvcvideo
Surely the reason for having a bug report system and gathering info on
workarounds is so that the system can be made to

I have tried both the sleep 10 hack and the PPA version. My 4550 is
still undetected by BOINC. No usable GPU found. The 4550 supports
stream and is listed in various places as supported for single precision
BOINC processing so should work. Could it be something to do with the
driver installed
Further to my previous post, I just tried under windows with latest
BOINC ATI driver and it worked perfectly.

and attach that file to the report?

No action i'm aware of yet. Times like this i wish i had more technical
knowledge. I guess this one isn't a priority for the serious devs. That said
it is a base package in Xubuntu so it is a definite priority to many users.
Any one know how best to get the attention of the clever people? If a day
Thanks for all the hard work Dennis.
It may be worth filing a bug against the gtk lib and linking the 2?
I'm not sure why it contains compositing either...

Yeah, the bug did not exist in 7.10, its new to hardy and seems to afflict
all (or atleast lots of) Neomagic 256 series graphics chips. I think we need
to get the attention of a driver / graphics guru if we are going to get this
fixed.
I'd also be interested to hear if this also affects other
an easier way would be to install an alternative terminal (aterm, xterm,
gnome-terminal, etc) or use the ctrl+alt+f2 if you only want it
occasionally. Its very hard to go back to a previous distro.

For a work around, you can use another terminal emulator (aterm, xterm,

My IBM 600E uses the NeoMagic MagicMedia™ 256AV
So maybe it is an issue with the driver for this series of NeoMagic chips, and

upgraded from xubuntu 7.10 a few days ago. When I open an xfce4-terminal window

I don't think this is a virtual box issue as it happens on my TP600e.
The problem includes the blacked out title bar and window decorations
(they are fine in every other app). I also get the same problem in child
windows (the xfce4-terminal options screen) and get strange yello/orange
lines when i
