I've got the same problem after upgrading to 2.6.22-14-generic. The mouse just stops working and I get the following line to dmesg: usb 1-2.2: device descriptor read/64, error -110 I've put the line option usbcore old_scheme_first=y to /etc/modutils/options and haven't got the error again.
