This does not really fix security because one aspect of security is
availability to legitimate users and this breaks the latter. Seems
there are better ways to fix such as restricting what this can write to
with apparmor? Or just fixing the coding so it does parse the input
more carefully.

For what it's worth it's STILL broken on 21.04, but I fixed by grabbing
hplip from HP's website and installing via the provided shell script instead
of the broken version shipped with Ubuntu.

If you type "systemctl reboot" instead of rebooting the machine hangs
hard, nothing except a hard power cycle seems to get it's attention.
This is true of both physical hardware and virtual machines, it was NOT

I can't tell you what performance hit, that depends upon your
application, it will hit TCP apps harder than UDP because UDP can't take
advantage of it at all. The performance hit will be highest in net
centric apps like routers.

went and bought some Realtek ethernet cards, no problems since. But, you

I am simply using virt-manager to create virtual machines, I've got
maybe half a dozen on a box, and then after a reboot they are set to start
automatically and dmesg will give me those messages. This is under Ubuntu
20.04, I can not swear they were not happening earlier but I did not notice
them.

If the NFS server reboots, sometimes client servers fail to re-establish
the NFS mount properly. This is using NFS v4.2. The client machine
will hang if I try to do a df when an NFS mount is in this condition.

I don't use gnome, I use Mate as I stated and it still has the layout
you describe, AND it worked in 19.10. There is a file just called
"studio.menu" there. There is no lone in it with DefaultMergeDirs in it.

I further discovered the mailbox in question was malformed, had a space
before the 'From' in the first message. Fixing that, and then deleting the
index file and allowing it to rebuild got customer back in service. I further

This can be closed, this turned out to be a permissions problem. I had
both Ubuntu and Centos mail servers, ubuntu wants the list files to have
a group of "list", and Centos "smartlst". I had them NFS mounted across
several servers. It was the different OS's fighting over what GID these
files sh
It turns out this was the same issue as bug #1871011. I not only stopped the
ippusbxd on this bus and port, but also disabled and masked it so that this
would stay stopped across reboots. All is
good now.

Some additional information, my initial report was incomplete in as much
as I've discovered more relevant details since I reported it.
Prior to 20.04, simple-scan worked perfectly.
