OK. Not familiar w/that wording/concept. Will investigate when next I'm
looking at a big file-pile job.

[Bug 1678262] [NEW] wish: config list of "preferred dirs" to control select

2017-03-31 Thread Rufus Laggren
Public bug reported:

When dealing with 100k++ number of files it would GREATLY, HUGELY help
if one could build, on the fly, a list of "preferred dirs". When
activated (various ways possible) the "preferred dirs" feature would,
when a "preferred dir" existed in a group, automatically select dupes
(lines) within each group which did NOT contain the "preferred dir".
When the "preferred dirs" feature left more than "n" line(s) unselected
in a group (multiple files w/same "preferred dir", or multiple
"preferred dirs" in same group) those groups would (optionally, set in
preferences) be highlighted for easy identification for further
selections; alternatively, groups with n unselected lines or less (see
below), based on "preferred dirs", could be hidden or auto-collapsed
which would leave normal groups, or those w/too many unselected lines,
visible for normal editing. Thinking about it, the second options seems
cleaner, less "busy", an easier interface to work with. A group could
not be highlighted, hidden or collapsed unless it contained "preferred
dirs".

There are probably other useful perversions of this idea possible but I
only can visualize the above at this point. The "n" number maybe could
be made part of processing each group and serve additional functions but
I have not tried to evaluate that, especially not knowing the logic flow
you use.

The preferences setting could:

1) Enable/disable the feature.

2) Spec n where "number of unselected lines" > n either causes
highlighting, or disable hide/collapse for that group. Default n=1.

3) Select highlighting, hide/collapse, or "no special display" for
groups altered by this feature.

Usage: On the fly, when working with a group, one could rt-click on the
_unselected_ line(s) and add the dir on that line to a "new preferred"
list; when satisfied, the "new preferred(s" would be posted to the
active "preferred dirs" list. (The rt-clk context menu could have the
top choice "add single dir" and the second choice "add multiple dirs" so
that the common(?) case where there is only one "preferred dir" would be
quick and easy.) The new items would be active immediately in the
current session. If no "preferred dirs had been defined yet for this
session or if a list had not been loaded, the "add dir" click would open
a "new list" dialog. Once defined or loaded for a session, that
"preferrred dirs" list would be used automatically for all succeeding
processing (dupe selection) until the "preferred dirs" context menu or
dialog was invoked again (by rt-clicking on an unselected line). Ideally
a config file containing this list and other options defined for this
session could be automatically associated with a saved search and
loaded, eg. from the "File" menu.

It would be greatly helpful if the auto-selections would be immediately
applied. This instant clutter reduction would greatly speed and simply
subsequent selection process resulting in a huge time savings.

Fslint is a fine, Fine tool. It's just that wading into gigabytes of
overgrown data directories, screwed up with multiple overlapping
restores or syncing runs over years, using slightly (or greatly)
differing directory structures is still a really, really bad job. In the
job I'm just completing (which inspired this post) there were 200k++
files w/an average of 4 dupes; there were dozens in some cases but those
are special. Unfortunately the first/last choices just didn't work at
all for this job.

A perversion of this filter which just occurred to me would be a "must
retain" list. It would need to be built from a gui by clicking high (or
low) on the directory tree, though - else the build for a new job would
probably be prohibitive for the user.

Regards

Rufus
(sorry if there is a better place to post suggestions - didn't see it right
off.)

[Bug 1529700] Re: fslint-gui duplicates select - within groups - select all but newest/oldest results in error

2016-11-01 Thread Rufus Laggren
fslint-gui fails to delete after selecting as above.

Version 2.44-9.1; OpenSuse LEAP 42.1

It _will_ "Save" the selection and that can be used w/a command line to
complete the delete operation.

Additionally the display has a glitch where after the above "select..."
the current list box displays _all_ entries as selected - which is not
correct. Moving the elevator down/up (to look down the list and then
return to original view) shows the entries selected correctly as
expected.

I don't think this is true. The problem packages are:

gcc-multilib which provides:
/usr/include/asm
/usr/share/doc/gcc-multilib

And the following 3 arm packages:
gcc-4.8-arm-linux-gnueabihf which provides
/usr/bin/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-4.8

/usr/share/man/man1/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-ranlib-4.8.1.gz
/usr/share/man/man1/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcov-4.8.1.gz

gcc-4.8-multilib-arm-linux-gnueabihf which provides:
/usr/share/doc/gcc-4.8-multilib-arm-linux-gnueabihf

and gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf which provides:
/usr/bin/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc
/usr/bin/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcov

/usr/share/man/man1/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc.1.gz
/usr/share/man/man1/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcov.1.gz

All those file lists are generated by apt-file

Also confirmed the above by running the following sequence of commands:
   38 cd /
   39 apt-get remove gcc-multilib gcc-4.8-arm-linux-gnueabihf
gcc-4.8-multilib-arm-linux-gnueabihf gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf
   40 find . -type f neither
   41 apt-get install gcc-multilib
   42 find . -type f i386
   43 apt-get remove gcc-multilib gcc-4.8-arm-linux-gnueabihf
gcc-4.8-multilib-arm-linux-gnueabihf gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf
   45 apt-get install gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf
   46 find . -type f arm
   48 diff neither i386
   49 diff neither arm
The output of diff neither i386 and diff neither arm contain no overlaps.

Do you mind reassessing this?

Cheers,

rufus

try to find out if either:
- the iOS 7 device was coupled with the specific hardware before ugrading

or

upgraded to a newer kernel after coupling with the iOS 7 device for the

[Bug 1207812] Re: [Sony VGN-SR29XN_S] Iphone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-18 Thread Rufus
Iuri Diniz, the package in #91 works for me as well. My machine runs
Linux Mint 16 Petra 64bit. Thanks.

There is only one remaining issue with the iPhone. I use to mount it not
only in Linux, but also through a VirtualBox running Windows XP and
iTunes inside a window in Linux Mint. It Mint 15 that is absolutely no
problem thanks to USB filter configured in VirtualBox. The same
configuration does not work with Mint 16, unfortunately. The filter is
there, but the iPhone simply does not show up in the virtual machine.

Has anyone an idea how to fix that?

[Bug 1215098] Re: iPhone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-18 Thread Rufus
I'm using Linux Mint and get this bug on Mint 16 (based on Ubuntu 13.10), but
not on Mint 15 (based on Ubuntu 13.04). Whereas Ubuntu itself shows the bug in
both versions.
So that may relates to either different kernel versions (Mint does not make the
same kernel updates as Ubuntu), or to different versions of libimobiledevice in
Mint 15, and Ubuntu 13.04 (if they are different at all).

In Mint 16 I installed the libimobiledevice version compiled by Iuri
Diniz (see comment #58 in this thread). That package works great, solves
the bug. Thanks, Iuri.

The same

This bug affects my machine too, running Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric. Video
card is nVidia 9600GT with recommended nVidia driver 280.13. The
launcher bar is corrupted after suspend and resume, as well as the top
panel. The top panel sometimes stays corrupted even after hovering the
mouse over it and after clicking menu items.

[Bug 875571] Re: Panic occurred, switch back to text console and freezes - On 11.10

2011-11-11 Thread Rufus K.
Unfortunately, kernel 3.1 panicked as well yesterday. Today I installed
kernel 2.6.37 instead. Besides not panicking, that kernel has the
advantage of consuming less power. Oneiric seems stable now and battery
power on the Asus Eee-PC 1000H lasts 5 hours instead of 3 (with kernels
3 and 3.1).

2011-11-06 Thread Rufus K.
I had the same issue on my Asus Eee-PC 1000H. It panicked several times
as soon as I had begun using Ubuntu 11.10. I followed the advice from
Joseph Salisbury and installed kernel 3.1. Since then (that means since
yesterday) no more panic occured.

2011-11-02 Thread Rufus
The bug is still there in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. I installed the new
release a few days ago and experienced the same problems with the nVidia
chipset/driver. The suggested solution (
http://www.warp1337.com/content/ubuntu-1104-natty-segmentation-fault-

I also have this problem. Has anyone tried this solution? Zotac 9300

After installing the proprietary nvidia driver in Ubuntu Natty (32bit

the login screen. The system can boot fine using the nouveau package,

Re: [Bug 770559] Re: Ubuntu fails to boot with nVidia proprietary driver

2011-11-02 Thread Rufus
Thanks a lot for the link. I installed beta driver 290.03. Now the Zotac
Geforce 9300 H-E mainboard runs perfectly again, for the first time since
Maverick Meerkat.

This bug solved on GeForce 9300 chipset in new nVidia 290.03 beta driver.

 Title:
Ubuntu fails to boot with nVidia proprietary driver

Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
After installing the proprietary nvidia driver in Ubuntu Natty (32bit
and 64bit tested) and rebooting, the system freezes before reaching
the login screen. The system can boot fine using the nouveau package,
but as soon as nvidia-current is installed the system crashes. Trying
to switch to a tty doesn't work, the only way to reboot after this is
to use the magic sysrq combination, and then boot into text mode to
  remove the nvidia-current driver.

The card in my machine is:
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C79 [GeForce 9300 /
 nForce 730i] (rev b1)

The driver version I installed, both on 32 and 64bit systems is
  270.41.06-0ubuntu1.

This bug also affects my Zotac Geforce 9300-H-E with Linux Mint 11

[Bug 122692] Re: Fatal error in PNG image file: IDAT: CRC Error

2011-05-19 Thread Rufus
I experienced a similar bug which probably has the same cause. After booting
and logging in the wallpaper did not show up. The background remained black.
When I tried to open the wallpaper file in image viewer I received the error
message Schwerer Fehler beim Lesen einer PNG-Bilddatei: IDAT: CRC error,
which means in English Fatal error opening PNG image file: IDAT: CRC error.
I'm using Linux Mint 9 Isadora.

Still no fn keys for brightness and no control of back light using
xbacklight (lucid) after quite a few releases. Would like this to work.
Where can I start?
