Rebooting my system and attempting to reinstall did not correct the
issue for me. My system consistently hangs when attempting to install
assemblies into mono.

I use i386 -- however, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find this issue
applies to x86-64 as well do to the specific patch which causes it. This
issue was originally discovered on Hardy Heron.

When attempting to define a default theme in /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc the
settings are ignored. However, when I rename the files to
/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.32 the setting is accepted. The contents of my
gtkrc.32 is:
gtk-theme-name = Inverted

good number of packages.

Additional note: I am not sure how the mime-tools package was ever built

instructed.
I am pleased to inform you the issue appears to be resolved on 8.10

The included patch resolves the issue with muting the amplifier when
heaphones are connected at boot using the Realtek HDA 883 audio chipset.
The setting options snd-hda-intel model=targa-dig must be added to
'/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base' for the changes to take effect.
