[Bug 1877000] Re: libjfxwebkit not present in the package for Focal amd64

2020-06-25 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Debian isn't affected because they build any arch-independent packages
separately from arch-dependent packages. Ubuntu, on the other hand,
builds arch-independent packages along with the amd64 build. This
combination is messing up the build for openjfx because of how the rules
are defined.

[Bug 1877000] Re: libjfxwebkit not present in the package for Focal amd64

2020-05-28 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
This is a debdiff to fix this issue by not overwriting the build.gradle
file when building arch-independent packages alongside the arch-
dependent packages. It has been tested in sbuild building both the arch-
dependent and arch-independent packages for Focal.

[Bug 1877000] Re: libjfxwebkit not present in the package for Focal amd64

2020-05-28 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
The issue has to deal with how the package is build. Both arch-dependent
and arch-independent packages are built for amd64 now. However, the
build rule for arch-independent messes up the build for arch-dependent
(i.e. the part that libjniwebkit belongs to).

[Bug 1845671] [NEW] Rebuilding Bionic's version of openscenegraph-3.4 3.4.1+dfsg1-3 for i386 results in different symbols

2019-09-27 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

Doing a rebuild today of openscenegraph-3.4 3.4.1+dfsg1-3 for i386
Bionic results in different symbol names being available now compared to
when the package was built. This leads to errors in compiling new
software today for i386 Bionic, where the new software is expecting
different symbols than what is available in the .so files.

Below is a diff of the symbols in libosg.so.3.4.1: (also available at
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/X93JnhHJmQ/)

I know you can get the Widevine files for x86_64, but I don't think you
can get it for armv7 (unless you extract it from the ChromeOS recovery

My PPA version shouldn't have the widevine files installed. If it does
by some chance, then it'll only be stub files that will do nothing.

[Bug 1577724] Re: NM doesn't sets the DNS properly, forces local dnsmasq as a resolver

2016-05-29 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
I believe this is by design. NetworkManager starts up a dnsmasq instance
that then uses the DNS servers provided by the DHCP server to resolve
queries. This is so that dnsmasq acts as a DNS caching application.

If you run tcpdump or wireshark to log DNS queries made, you should see
that the DNS servers provided by the DHCP server are used.

[Bug 1581029] [NEW] Running BOINC without an X-server (or with PrivateTmp=true in the service file) results in a crash

2016-05-12 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

When running BOINC without an X-server, or under systemd with PrivateTmp
set to true, a crash occurs (after about 5 minutes). This is because the
idle detection code is trying to open /tmp/.X11-unix, and the error case

handled correctly.

This is documented upstream at

[Bug 1511154] Re: xdg-settings set fails with status 2 because of a small glitch

2016-03-22 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
** Description changed:

+ (Existing description has been broken up into sections.)
+
+ [Impact]
+
The first user-facing symptom: Google Chrome stable is correctly set as
the default browser in System Settings / Details / Default Applications
  as well as in

  update-alternatives --display x-www-browser

yet it keeps complaining about not being a default browser. Clicking
"Make Google Chrome the default browser." on Chrome's settings page has
  no response.

The problem is reported here http://askubuntu.com/questions/688779
  /google-chrome-stable-keeps-asking-if-it-should-be-set-to-default but
  the answer is somewhat wrong.
+
+ [Test Case]

I have successfully reproduced and debugged the problem. I managed to
establish that it is connected to xdg-utils, namely to /usr/bin/xdg-
  settings script.

  michal@furia:~$ lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description: Ubuntu 15.10
  Release: 15.10
  Codename: wily
  michal@furia:~$ xdg-settings get default-web-browser
  firefox.desktop
  michal@furia:~$ xdg-settings set default-web-browser google-chrome.desktop
  michal@furia:~$ echo $?
  2
  michal@furia:~$ xdg-settings get default-web-browser
  firefox.desktop

There is a function in /usr/bin/xdg-settings called
desktop_file_to_binary() and it has a bug. It is slightly different than
the one in the vanilla xdg-utils 1.1.0 rc3. It is implemented in scripts
  /xdg-utils-common.in.

  See line 65 in xdg-utils-1.1.0~rc3+git20150907/scripts/xdg-utils-
  common.in :

  command="`grep -E "^Exec(\[[^]=]*])?=" "$file" | cut -d= -f 2- | sed -e
  's/ .*$//'`"

When executed against google-chrome.desktop or firefox.desktop it
  results with:

  google-chrome-stable
  google-chrome-stable
  google-chrome-stable

  or

  firefox
  firefox
  firefox

  respectively.

When passed to `which` and then to `readlink -f` it results with no path
to the actual binary. In the vanilla xdg-utils package (version 1.1.0
rc3) the `sed` part is replaced with `first_word`. An alternative would
  be adding `| head -n 1`.

Then we would have only one `google-chrome-stable` or `firefox` which in
turn would result with the actual path to binary resolved correctly and
that would make xdg-settings work fine.

Also, it is possible to set Google Chrome as the default browser via its
preferences and the aforementioned first user-facing symptom is gone.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Limited. The commands after the modified lines assume that there is only
+ one line, so passing the output of the modified lines through `head -n1`
+ should ensure that. In the case of there being 0 or 1 lines before the
+ `head -n1` command, nothing will be changed.
+
+ In the worst case, there may exist a .desktop file where the first Exec
+ line isn't the main program (mentioned in comment 2 below). In that
+ case, however, this change will result in the incorrect program being
+ chosen; this may or may not be better than the command not working at
+ all.

[Bug 882942] Re: NaCL is missing

2015-11-09 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Correct.

I don't think it's too hard. Getting and adding API keys should take
about 15-20 minutes. The steps are outlined in the PPA description, and
the process of getting the API keys is outlined at
https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/api-keys.

In your case, you only need to enable the Chrome Sync API if that's all
you want to use.

[Bug 1509725] [NEW] Some ICMPv6 packets rejected due to rule ordering

2015-10-24 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

In the default before6.rules file, the following lines:

# drop INVALID packets (logs these in loglevel medium and higher)
-A ufw6-before-input -m conntrack --ctstate INVALID -j ufw6-logging-deny
-A ufw6-before-input -m conntrack --ctstate INVALID -j DROP

are present before the ICMPv6 rules. The problem is that this also
captures echo replies (but, somehow, allows echo requests) and some IPv6
routing announcements. If I try to ping ff02::1 to ping all devices on
the local network, I only get a response from my own device.

Moving those three lines towards the end of the file (after all ICMP
rules and before the COMMIT) fixes the issue.

[Bug 1484517] [NEW] armhf build of gr-iqbal in Vivid failed to upload

2015-08-13 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Due to conflicting file names, the armhf build of gr-iqbal in Vivid
built successfully, but failed to upload (or is at least marked as
failed to upload). In particular, libgnuradio-
iqbalance0_0.37.2-1_armhf.deb, libgnuradio-
iqbalance0-dbgsym_0.37.2-1_armhf.ddeb, and gr-iqbal-
dbgsym_0.37.2-1_armhf.ddeb weren't uploaded because they were already
present in the Primary Archive.

Because of this, some packages dependent on this package haven't been
built yet. Could someone perhaps remove those files from the Primary

[Bug 1476475] [NEW] gnuradio doesn't build on armhf due to unneeded dependencies

2015-07-20 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

The gnuradio package currently has a build dependency on libqwtplot3d-
qt4-dev (which is not available for armhf). However, the package doesn't
use anything from libqwtplot3d-qt4-dev. Taking that dependency out at
least allows gnuradio to build (and most likely succeed).

[Test Case]

Attempt to install gnuradio, or anything that depends on a gnuradio
library (such as gqrx-sdr) on an armhf system, and notice it's not
available.

[Regression Potential]

In the event that qwtplot3d is indeed indirectly referenced somewhere,
then a feature will be missing. However, running apt-cache rdepends
libqwtplot3d-qt4-0 yields only five packages (three of which are
directly related with qwtplot3d or qwt3d), none of which are the
gnuradio libraries.

[Bug 1371274] Re: Unable to use the widevine plugin with Chromium

Version 44 is needed, because the stubbed Widevine implementation was
committed into Chromium hours after version 43 was branched off. On
version 43, nothing really gets built.

The Widevine implementation is closed-source, so nothing can be done on
this side. However, using the widevine libraries in Chrome OS might work
if it's compiled for the same architecture.

Currently, this is intentional, because building the Native Client

When I do have it built successfully, I'll include Native Client using

It's known that simgear won't build on Ubuntu armhf because simgear
makes direct OpenGL calls, whereas OpenGL ES is used instead on armhf. I
was able to make OpenSceneGraph build on Ubuntu armhf, but because of
the direct OpenGL calls here, more work would need to be done here.

[Bug 1412246] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work at all

2015-01-21 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Attempting to use any of the bluetooth classes to interact with attached
+ bluetooth devices will result in no devices being detected and,
+ therefore, nothing being done.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Have a bluetooth device attached and recognized and usable by BlueZ.
+ 2. Write a short program that just constructs an instance of the
QBluetoothLocalDevice class (http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qbluetoothlocaldevice.html),
which gives info about the local device.
+ 3. See that the address returned is of an invalid device, and that there are
no connected devices.
+
+ [Regression]
+
+ Minimal. This package handles only the bluetooth and NFC protocols, and
+ the current state is that nothing is detected. With the build change,
+ local devices will actually be accessible.
+
+ [Original Message]
+
The QtConnectivity package was built without the BlueZ headers.
Therefore, bluetooth functionality was effectively not included in the
  binary packages.

[Bug 1366207] [NEW] qgl.h typedefs GLdouble to float instead of double

2014-09-05 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

In qgl.h, for the OpenGL ES 2.0, GLdouble is typedef'ed to float. This
causes a compile error in the armhf architcture in downstream programs
including OpenSceneGraph and other programs. Recently, Qt committed a
patch (https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/93984/1//ALL) for Qt 5 to
change the typedef from float to double, since (according to the commit
message), the typedef was from S60 and wasn't being used anywhere.

I've backported the patch to Qt 4, but I wasn't able to do a full build
for armhf; the build was taking 12+ hours for me. However, it does seem
to have compiled the OpenGL source code files and a few examples related
to this successfully. Therefore, I wasn't fully able to verify that this
compiles successfully.

This is intended to be a bugfix-only update; however, since the ABI is
effectively being changed, this change might warrant some discussion
here. The expectation for downstream packages on armhf is that more
packages can be compiled, since some packages have this typedef error,
but some packages may also fail to compile if they rely on the fact that
this was a float. I'm expecting that the number for the latter case is
low to 0, since this is a widening conversion.

I've attached the raw patch file. This will need to be added to
debian/patches.

[Bug 1363962] [NEW] [FFe] openwalnut fails to build on Utopic armhf

2014-09-01 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

This is a bugfix-only update.

The openwalnut package currently fails to build on Utopic armhf. This is
partly because of a typedef conflict error between OpenSceneGraph and
Qt4 and partly because of the use of a constant that is only present in
OpenGL and OpenGL ES 1.x (not in OpenGL ES 2.0). For the first bug, an
#include is added before all other includes to have the typedef and a
#define assigned for it. For the second bug, that section of the code
(which is the code that controls line smoothing) is excluded for armhf.
While this means that openwalnut compiles, line-smoothing will not work.
(I believe the proper way to do this in OpenGL ES 2.0 is to use
multisampling.)

In addition, I added a patch that ensures that OpenGL ES is used if
requested, and sets the libraries to link to to include OpenGL ES 2.0.

Considering that this package did not previously compile on armhf, the
risk of causing this package to break builds for dependent packages (if
any) are low. However, there is a functionality loss for armhf, since
line-smoothing will not work.

[Bug 1363529] [NEW] libopenscenegraph-dev Depends on libgl1-mesa-dev instead of libgles2-mesa-dev on armhf

2014-08-30 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

This is a bugfix-only update.

The current version of libopenscenegraph-dev depends on libgl1-mesa-dev
on all architectures, including on armhf, where it is built using
libgles2-mesa-dev. Considering that only GLES is supported on Ubuntu
armhf, and considering that the library wasn't built with libgl1-mesa-
dev, the dependency should be changed to libgles2-mesa-dev.

[Bug 1363529] Re: libopenscenegraph-dev Depends on libgl1-mesa-dev instead of libgles2-mesa-dev on armhf

2014-08-30 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
** Description changed:

  This is a bugfix-only update.

The current version of libopenscenegraph-dev depends on libgl1-mesa-dev
on all architectures, including on armhf, where it is built using
libgles2-mesa-dev. Considering that only GLES is supported on Ubuntu
armhf, and considering that the library wasn't built with libgl1-mesa-
dev, the dependency should be changed to libgles2-mesa-dev.
+
+ Regarding the risk, the risk is low. This package previously did not
+ build for armhf, and Utopic (currently) is the only release to have an
+ armhf build of openscenegraph. Other packages that used this library
+ likely either had an explicit dependency on libgles2-mesa-dev or used
+ another package that pulled in libgles2-mesa-dev; if anything, some
+ packages may fail to build after this change in the event those packages
+ were built with OpenGL instead of OpenGL ES.

[Bug 1361895] Re: Openjdk-8-jdk is a debug build

2014-08-27 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
The general Debian/Ubuntu packaging process involves (ideally) a release
build with debug symbols or a debug build, and then the debug symbols
are split into a separate file that would be in -dbg. From what I can
tell, this has happened already; the openjdk-8-dbg package install size
is 136 MB. In the case of this package, it seems the built files are
closer to a release build with debug symbols than a debug build. See
https://blogs.oracle.com/kto/entry/mustang_jdk_6_0_fastdebug for more
information on what fastdebug is.

That being said, it doesn't look like OpenJDK 7 was built with the
fastdebug option, it may be why this is being exhibited now rather than
before.

[Bug 1339264] Re: Missing FreeType support in 14.04 LTS package

2014-08-26 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

The current version of openscenegraph in Ubuntu Trusty cannot load
FreeType fonts. This is because the build used its own CMakeModule to
try to find the Freetype libraries, and when it couldn't find the
libraries, this module of the program was excluded from the build.
Therefore, any programs that attempt to use FreeType fonts for their
text will result in the text using something like Courier New (or some
  other code-style, serif font).

  [Test Case]

Use any program that uses openscenegraph and attempts to load a FreeType
font. Flightgear is one example; in the case of this program, an error
message is displayed saying that the Liberation fonts couldn't be
loaded, and the text appears to be Courier New-like.

  [Regression Potential]

Minimum. The actual changes are a change in how the FreeType libraries
are found and some #include changes. The worst case is a build failure.
Programs are expected to continue working and shouldn't need a
- recompilation. (Testing yet to occur.)
+ recompilation.

  [Original Description]

The current package (3.2.0~rc1-4) available for Ubuntu 14.04 is missing
support for FreeType due to a build bug that is listed as fixed in
3.2.0~rc1-5. This results in very poor quality text in OpenSceneGraph
applications that are running on 14.04 (which used to be fine in 12.04).
There is a discussion of the bug on the Debian bug tracker
  (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=743169) for more
  information.

Is it possible to get this fix into 14.04?

[Bug 1343081] Re: chromium: missing http:// in URL bar on non-ssl http URLs

2014-08-23 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
As Florian said (and based on what I've just tested), doing either
Select text - Middle click to copy - Middle click in another window
to paste or Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V copies the http:// over, *even when
http:// isn't visible in the omnibox (the edit field)*. I'm not sure if
there is a configuration problem on your system or if it's something
specific to the DE (I'm on KDE).

[Bug 1284190] Re: openscenegraph 3.2.0~rc1 doesn't build on ARM (armhf), but builds fine in Debian

2014-08-20 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Considering that this hasn't been SRU'ed, can I include another bug fix
into the SRU? If so, would I need to bump up the version?

Also, for openwalnut, I fixed the build error with openscenegraph, but
there's an undefined variable that might only be in OpenGL and not
OpenGL ES.

[Bug 1284190] Re: openscenegraph 3.2.0~rc1 doesn't build on ARM (armhf), but builds fine in Debian

2014-08-12 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ openscenegraph FTBFS for armhf partly because it tries to build for
+ OpenGL, partly because there is a typedef conflict for GLdouble between
+ this package and Qt, and partly because freeglut does not support OpenGL
+ ES yet. As a result, any package dependent on this package does not
+ build either.
+
+ The changes made:
+ 1. Tell openscenegraph to not use OpenGL and to instead use OpenGL ES.
+ 2. Backport part of a commit that tells the build system not to build an
example application when compiling for OpenGL ES, as that application doesn't
support OpenGL ES.
+ 3. Fix a typedef conflict for GLdouble and Qt by changing it from a typedef
to a #define. On the Qt side, Qt checks to see if GLdouble is #defined and if
it's not #defined, it gives its own typedef.
+ 4. Not to include freeglut-dev on armhf, so that the example that uses
freeglut isn't built.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Try to build openscenegraph as is.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ No regressions should occur for non-armhf (and non-OpenGL ES)
+ architectures, as no code related to those architectures is being
+ changed. As for armhf, the package will build, but the example that uses
+ freeglut will not be included in the final package.
+
+ That being said, some packages that depend on this package also depend
+ on freeglut as well, which, as of 2.8, does not support OpenGL ES.
+ OpenGL ES support is expected for 3.0, and compiling the current git
+ version for armhf (with the necessary modifications to tell it to build
+ for OpenGL ES) works. Therefore, those packages will still FTBFS.

2014-08-11 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Something's odd there. Openscenegraph shouldn't be building with Qt5 in
Ubuntu (although it is supported, IIRC). I take it this is not in a
chroot?

I've attached my sbuild log for comparison. Note that qt5 is not
mentioned at all (except as a suggested package).

Also, I'll correct the version number.

[Bug 1354691] [NEW] Make KDE library packages multiarch

2014-08-09 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Public bug reported:

It would be nice to have the KDE library packages adjusted so that they
are multiarch. This might help in case someone needs to install a KDE
application that's not in their native architecture (for some reason).
After a short look, it looks like setting the CMake variable LIB_SUFFIX
to /$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH) will do the trick for the most part. I
haven't done a build on this yet.

because there will be security updates in Utopic, someone will have to

[Bug 1297065] Re: [needs-packaging]openjdk-8 in ubuntu

2014-07-13 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Security updates would apply, but I don't think this would be considered
a security update, since this is an entirely new version and this source
package (openjdk-8) isn't present in 14.04.

As always, an exception might be made since 14.04 has to live for the
next 5 years, assuming the build dependencies can be brought down
somehow.

2014-07-12 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
I believe this should be marked as Fix Released, now that there is an
openjdk-8 package in Utopic?

[Bug 1331375] Re: Update Chromium to = 35.0.1916.153 (including security fixes)

2014-07-08 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
@f00fbug: In fact, the switch to Aura was made early with version 34
(the default Chrome(ium) made the switch in version 35 to avoid the bugs
in 34), therefore removing support for NPAPI plugins.
