[Bug 282809] Re: Kosovo is missing from the list of countries and regions

2015-08-21 Thread Savvas Radevic
I'd semi-quote another bug report in KDE:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=303942

I believe there is a strict policy in this regard of only implementing
support for countries that have a) been recognised by the UN or b) had a
Country Code issues by the ISO.

Instead of trying to add Kosovo separately in each distro, I would
suggest filing an inclusion report at ISO or UN in order to get
recognized properly. Until then, I think this is not a proper way to add
regional info specifically for each Linux distro.

[Bug 1018724] Re: rhythmbox stops playing songs after one second

2013-04-23 Thread Savvas Radevic
I had the same problem in 12.10 and now in 13.04. I closed totem
I installed dconf-tools package, I opened the dconf-editor and pressed Set to
default for every value under /org/gnome/Totem/ -- now totem doesn't stop
after the 1st second.

[Bug 1020059] [NEW] [quantal] 5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu1 - wl_linux.c:43:24: fatal error: asm/system.h: No such file or directory

2012-07-02 Thread Savvas Radevic
Public bug reported:

A rather weird way to try the bug, but **I think it affects quantal** as
well (as system.h doesn't exist anymore) -- that's why I'm reporting it
as a bug.

I installed the latest ubuntu 3.4.4 on ubuntu 12.04 (from kernel mainline ppa)
and the package bcmwl-kernel-source from ubuntu quantal repositories:

This happened when I installed/tried to reconfigure the package:

why I'm reporting it.

[Bug 375038] Re: XPS file format not supported

2012-06-28 Thread Savvas Radevic
There's a PPA for precise: https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+archive/evince-xps/
(I just noticed that there's a new version on top of the patched one, I'll try
and push the patched version for precise this weekend)

A -backports version of evince with libgxps support would be great!

If you have a patch to fix it, I'd gladly integrate it.

From a personal email reply, I think that the current upstream maintainer
is not interested in supporting Unity or other non-gnome-3 desktops.

[Bug 1014972] [NEW] ubuntu apt does not use Greek launchpad translations

2012-06-19 Thread Savvas Radevic
Public bug reported:

What's the point in translating downstream if the apt (apt-get command

Specifically:

[Bug 1013981] [NEW] New upstream release: skype 4.0 for linux

2012-06-16 Thread Savvas Radevic
Public bug reported:

There is a new upstream release for skype:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/on-your-computer/linux/
http://blogs.skype.com/linux/2012/06/skype_40_for_linux.html

Quote:

You will find four major changes in this release:

We have a new Conversations View where users can easily track all of their
chats in a unified window. Those users who prefer the old view can disable this
in the Chat options;
We have a brand new Call View;
Call quality has never been better thanks to several investments we made in
improving audio quality; and
We've worked on improving video call quality and have also extended support
for more cameras.

Of course, we have loads of other small improvements and fixes. As you
can imagine, the list is so long it would take too much time to write it
all, but some are worthy of mention:

improved chat synchronization
new presence and emoticon icons
the ability to store and view phone numbers in a Skype contact's profile
much lower chance Skype for Linux will crash or freeze
chat history loading is now much faster
support for two new languages: Czech (flag:cz) and Norwegian (flag:no)

[Bug 989496] Re: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xd1 in position 117

2012-05-05 Thread Savvas Radevic
The problem is with the filename encoding you have. Please check if any
files or folders have weird characters that look like these:

This is an example in python:
 unicode('\x95','utf-8')
Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in module
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x95 in position 0: invalid
start byte

This seems to work (but haven't tested it with duplicity):
 unicode('\x95','utf-8', replace)
u'\ufffd'

 unicode('\xd1','utf-8', 'replace')
u'\ufffd'

The developers could use either replace or ignore, but I don't know
which one suits the purpose best. Or even use try ... except
UnicodeDecodeError and skip these files/folders for that matter.

2012-04-28 Thread Savvas Radevic
In one of the duplicates the workaround was mentioned:

sudo /usr/sbin/update-rc.d -f atieventsd remove
sudo dpkg --purge fglrx-amdccle
sudo dpkg --purge fglrx
sudo dpkg --purge fglrx-updates
sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdccle

I tried to update the bug description but it times out for some reason.

[Bug 175316] Re: no IDN in nslookup and host

2012-03-29 Thread Savvas Radevic
!ping :) - dnsutils 1:9.7.3.dfsg-1ubuntu4.1

From the man page in ubuntu 11.10 oneiric:

IDN SUPPORT
If dig has been built with IDN (internationalized domain name) support,
it can accept and
display non-ASCII domain names. dig appropriately converts character
encoding of domain name
before sending a request to DNS server or displaying a reply from the
server. If you'd like to
turn off the IDN support for some reason, defines the IDN_DISABLE
environment variable. The IDN
support is disabled if the variable is set when dig runs.

There must be support for idn domain names, but perhaps you forgot to
enable it?

Hm, perhaps I'm wrong, should dig tool be used with idn?
Or should it be able to translate utf-8 characters to punycode directly?
It works with punycode entered through idn command line tool, e.g. dig `idn

2012-03-27 Thread Savvas Radevic
+1 - The ffmpeg package is already marked as a transitional package.
Avoiding to mention 'ffmpeg' definitely clears out any
misinterpretations.

If possible to improve the first sentence, I would add:

*** THIS PROGRAM IS DEPRECATED ***
This program is part of libav source package and will be removed in a future
release. Please use avconv instead.

[Bug 912789] Re: FFe: Sync libgxps 0.2.1-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2012-03-26 Thread Savvas Radevic
Thank you very much! I'm quite happy with the partial xps support.
Now:
1. Can I file the MIR request or must an Ubuntu developer do that?
2. Do I have to file a new bug for libgxps and request MIR (stands for main
inclusion request I presume?) or should I use the evince bug (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/375038 ) ?
3. Also, do I follow the MIR procedure described at

[Bug 965467] [NEW] [MIR] Please transfer libgxps 0.2.2-1 (universe) to main

2012-03-26 Thread Savvas Radevic
Public bug reported:

Intro: libgxps is a GObject based library for handling and rendering XPS
documents.

OpenXPS or XPS stands for XML Paper Specification. It is based on XML
and it's a new electronic paper format originally developed by Microsoft
and it serves as a PDF alternative. XPS files are usually created using
Microsoft XPS Document Writer in Windows environments. It is now
standardized as an open standard document format.

Quoting Wikipedia: An XPS file is in fact a Unicoded ZIP archive using
the Open Packaging Conventions, containing the files which make up the
document. These include an XML markup file for each page, text, embedded
fonts, raster images, 2D vector graphics, as well as the digital rights
management information. The contents of an XPS file can be examined
simply by opening it in an application which supports ZIP files.

The OpenXPS document format specification supports features such as
color gradients, transparencies, CMYK color spaces, printer calibration,
multiple-ink systems and print schemas.

libgxps is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under
the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License as published by the
Free Software Foundation; either version 2.1 of the License, or (at your
option) any later version.

Provided packages: http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/precise/libgxps
gir1.2-gxps-0.1 GObject introspection data for the gxps library
libgxps-dev handling and rendering XPS documents (development files)
libgxps-doc library for handling and rendering XPS documents (documentation)
libgxps-utils handling and rendering XPS documents (utilities)
libgxps2 handling and rendering XPS documents (library)

MIR checks:
1. Availability: All supported architectures:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgxps/0.2.2-1

2. Rationale: The package is a new build dependency or dependency of a package
that we already support
* The main goal is to add libgxps as a build-dependency for evince and allow
users to read .xps files. I realize that we are kind of late in the development
cycle - I had to wait for libarchive 3.x and libgxps to be included first.
* No other reverse dependencies are planned except for evince
* First libgxps upstream release in 2011-10-11:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/libgxps/0.1/
* libgxps Debian package is a new package, just recently included (but
adequately tested):
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgxps
http://packages.qa.debian.org/libg/libgxps.html
* Evince already supports libgxps:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=321868
It just has to be enabled:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/375038

3. Security: N/A
No CVE reports: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=libgxps
No Secunia security reports:
https://secunia.com/advisories/search/?search=libgxps

4. QA
* No bug reports in Debian PTS: http://packages.qa.debian.org/libg/libgxps.html
* Bug reports upstream: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=libgxps
Total current open bugs: 1: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670895
(low importance, already FIXED in libarchive 3.x package that is included in
precise - it only requires a version bump in libgxps configure script upstream)
* Tested with microsoft xps writer generated files and works as expected.
Done while I was waiting for libarchive 3.x inclusion (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libarchive/+bug/951139 )
a) .xps example/test files:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libarchive/+bug/951139/+attachment/2845528/+files/xps-examples.zip
b) screenshot of evince with enabled xps:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libarchive/+bug/951139/+attachment/2845529/+files/main_goal_evince_xps.png
c) tested libgxps library (through evince) and libgxps-utils (conversion tools
xpsto* i.e. xpstopdf)
* debian/watch file: Yes - works

5. UI standards: N/A - libgxps ships library files and command line
tools.

6. Build-Depends: All in main: Yes
 cdbs (= 0.4.93), debhelper (= 9), dh-autoreconf, gnome-pkg-tools (= 0.10),
gobject-introspection, gtk-doc-tools (= 1.14), libarchive-dev (= 3.0.0),

[Bug 912789] Re: FFe: Sync libgxps 0.2.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-03-25 Thread Savvas Radevic
Falling back to libgxps 0.2.1-1 suggestion - current cdbs in precise is
0.4.100ubuntu2 and does not satisfy the depenencies of libgxps 0.2.2-1:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/98042540/buildlog_ubuntu-precise-amd64.libgxps_0.2.2-1~ppap1_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

Are there any intended reverse dependencies of this library?
Yes, evince
(if Evince, this will have to go to main which will entail a MIR)
should I change from (universe) to (main) then?

[Bug 912789] Re: FFe: Sync libgxps 0.2.1-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2012-03-25 Thread Savvas Radevic
You're right, it must've been a ppa build mistake. I tried it again and
it works now, thanks.

It would've been faster if revu was still working. :) I had to wait for it to
be included in Debian, then apply for FFe.
I also had to wait for the inclusion of libarchive 3.x - at least libarchive
made it.

Thank you for the clarification! Do I have to subscribe the desktop-bugs
team?

2012-03-23 Thread Savvas Radevic
I hope we're not too late, with the beta freeze in effect. :)
There's an even newer version in unstable (0.2.2-1):
http://packages.qa.debian.org/libg/libgxps.html

libgxps (0.2.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * Bump Build-Depends on cdbs for multiarch support.
   * debian/patches/01_fix-gtk-doc-build.patch: Removed, merged upstream.

Package cdbs is version 0.4.100ubuntu2 in precise, so it's ok to assume
it will work. I'll test-build it this evening.

[Bug 951139] Re: [FFe] Please include libarchive 3.0.3-6 from Debian unstable

2012-03-11 Thread Savvas Radevic
** Description changed:

Currently Ubuntu 12.04 has libarchive v2.8.5. There is a new upstream
  version of libarchive.

Main Goal: also include/build ligxps 0.2.1 and allow users to open
  .xps[1] files using evince.

  Notes:
  * The current version of libarchive (2.8.5) allows us to build/use libgxps
and enable xps in evince. However, it will not work with xps files created by
Microsoft XPS Document Writer (a virtual printer). [2] - FIXED (libarchive =
3.0.0)
  * We need debian package libarchive version 3.0.3-6 because of another
problem with xps files [3] - FIXED (debian package libarchive12 version =
3.0.3-6)
  * I have a working PPA set up on launchpad: libarchive 3.0.3-6 (patched
3.0.3-5) + libgxps 0.2.1 + xps-enabled evince -
https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+archive/evince-xps/
  * If Ubuntu official packages are built using the same
infrastructure/software (i.e. build daemons) as Launchpad PPA, then one more
patch is required on top of libarchive 3.0.3-6 [4]

  Testing dependencies:
- * As I was informed there are about a dozen packages that depend on
libarchive and will have to be rebuilt if we include a new upstream release. I
haven't tested them.
+ * As I was informed there are about a dozen packages that depend on
libarchive and will have to be rebuilt if we include a new upstream release.
Rebuilt checked:
https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+archive/libarchive-experimental/+packages - 1
package failed out of 14 in total (see comment #7).

[Bug 951139] Re: [FFe] Please include libarchive 3.0.3-6 from Debian unstable

2012-03-10 Thread Savvas Radevic
** Description changed:

- (This FFe request is not yet ready)
-
Currently Ubuntu 12.04 has libarchive v2.8.5.

  * As I was informed there are about a dozen packages that depend on
libarchive and will have to be rebuilt if we include a new upstream release. I
haven't tested them.

[1] .xps: OpenXPS or XPS stands for XML Paper Specification. It is based on
XML and it's a new electronic paper format originally developed by Microsoft
and it serves as a PDF alternative. XPS files are usually created using
Microsoft XPS Document Writer in Windows environments. It is now standardized
as an open standard document format.

[Bug 951139] Re: [FFe] Please include libarchive 3.0.3-6 from Debian unstable

2012-03-10 Thread Savvas Radevic
I've set up a test ppa to check whether packages fail or build:
https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+archive/libarchive-experimental/+packages

At the moment, 3 packages failed. I should've waited for cmake-data
(i386) to be built first, but I uploaded all of the packages. 2 failed
for this reason and I'll try the build tomorrow.

However 1 failed with this error:
/build/buildd/gmameui-0.2.12/src/gmameui-zip-utils.c:94: undefined reference to
`archive_read_data_into_buffer' - that was expected, provided that the gmameui
has not seen a new version since 2009: http://gmameui.sourceforge.net/
There's an easy fix for this one:

# archive_read_data_into_buffer() is deprecated in libarchive
/bin/sed -i 's/archive_read_data_into_buffer/archive_read_data/'
src/gmameui-zip-utils.c

There is some documentation to patch the packages to use the new format:
https://github.com/libarchive/libarchive/wiki/Libarchive3 - I sure hope
that none of the other packages fail.

[Bug 951139] Re: [FFe] Please include libarchive 3.0.3-6 from Debian unstable

2012-03-10 Thread Savvas Radevic
Result: Build test succeeded for all packages that depend on libarchive-
dev, except for gmameui (which did not have an upstream release since
2009 - http://gmameui.sourceforge.net/ ).

https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+archive/libarchive-experimental/+packages
https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+archive/libarchive-experimental/+sourcepub/2298858/+listing-archive-extra

gmameui requires a trivial single-line patch: http://bugs.debian.org

[Bug 94011] Re: [needs-packaging] Frostwire

2012-03-06 Thread Savvas Radevic
Are you sure? There aren't any information here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/frostwire
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=frostwire
http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=frostwire

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=419730
Your RFP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It hasn't seen any activity for the last 18 months.
- The amount of RFPs on the Debian BTS is huge and we need to
clean up a bit the place.
