Are there any other side effects as a result of using
__GL_YIELD="USLEEP" or KWIN_TRIPLE_BUFFER=1? Will tearing be prevented
on all connected monitors? Is there a performance hit?
At the moment, I'm using the following to get rid of tearing on Kubuntu
18.04:
1. Create file /etc/modprobe.d/zz-nvid
As mentioned in other comments here, one workaround is to restart sddm
(or to log out and log back in again). Not very convenient.

I experienced this bug on both my laptops (both with Nvidia 9xx series
GPUs) with KDE Neon (developer stable), but not on my desktop PC. All
are running the latest proprietary Nvidia 390 drivers.
I observed today that the problem only occurs when the Nvidia GPU is in
use (sudo prime-select nvidia)

I have this problem too on Ubuntu 14.04 desktop. I do not have nautilus-
open-terminal installed. It occurs for me quite frequently - about every
third or fourth time after mounting then unmounting a samba share within
Nautilus.
I have to killall -9 nautilus before I can try to mount the Samba sha

Using an nVidia GTX 660TI running the proprietary nVidia 310.19 driver,

I believe I have found what was casuing the problem in my case. I have a
Realtek R8168 onboard ethernet, but Ubuntu was loading the Realtek R8169
driver.

Looks like I spoke too soon. I am still having problems with iwlagn. I
have an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200. The problems are intermittent:
when downloading a file, the download will simply stop at some point
(when downloading using Firefox 4 or wget). The same thing happens when
