[Bug 1500080] [NEW] Dell XPS 2013 - [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled

2015-09-26 Thread Sean Clarke
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to latest kernel (4.2.0-11-generic) multi screen setup
no longer works. It does seem intermittant, but in 9/10 cases it will
not drive triple monitor setup, however with some unplugging and
replugging of the DP one screen "may" appear which mirrors the local
display, I can then add the other monitors.

If the laptop screen blanking kicks in it never recovers.

The syslog for the incident is as follows:

[Bug 1492755] [NEW] ABI issues when used in 15.10

2015-09-06 Thread Sean Clarke
Public bug reported:

I am compiling some of my existing small apps in Ubuntu 15.10 and I am
getting what looks like ABI errors when linking against the packaged
libodb and libodg-pgsql.

I downloaded the source and compiled libodb-pgsql with the provided
g++5.2 and it seems to work fine, so at a first guess it looks like the
libs haven't been compiled with the provided gcc/g++ version.

** Affects: libodb-pgsql (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1431581] Re: NIS does not start on 15.04

2015-05-09 Thread Sean Clarke
Update : Just went onto a client NIS server that was running 14.10 and
checked the /etc/default/nis file and it was set to master, upgraded to
15.04 and it was changed to NISSERVER=false and all clients couldn't
bind.

Changed manually back to NISSERVER=master and all is OK.

Looks like the upgrade doesn't observe the original settings

Thanks Martin - good guess.

Oddly, all the machines were working previous (with several slaves),
probably for 2+ years with regular updates.

Anyway, thanks for the assistance, it's all working now as expected.

[Bug 1431581] Re: NIS does not start on 15.04

2015-04-24 Thread Sean Clarke
Just to confirm I have updated to the official release and although nis
does now start without error, the ypserve process does not get started
(as described above) meaning that NIS clients work, but NIS server
master and slaves do not work properly.

[Bug 1431581] Re: NIS does not start on 15.04

2015-04-15 Thread Sean Clarke
NIS client now starts correctly:

/usr/sbin/ypbind -no-dbus

However on our NIS slave the NIS server is not starting:

ps -ef | grep ypserv

If I start manually ypserv - it is fine and works as expected:

/usr/sbin/ypbind -no-dbus
ypserv

[Bug 1294723] [NEW] Evince ignores printers page sizes

2014-03-19 Thread Sean Clarke
Public bug reported:

Evince appears to ignore a printers default, last and other paper size
details, here is the scenario...

Printer One is an A4 printer and it's paper size is A4
Printer Two is an A3 printer and it's paper size is A3
Printer Three is an A1 plotter and it's paper size is A1

A PDF is opened and printed to Printer One and the page is printed as
expected.

Another PDF is opened, this time Printer Two is selected and the page
size is set (in the printer dialog) to A3, the page prints as expected.

Another PDF is opened and Printer One is selected again - HOWEVER the
page size remains as A3 and the print is thrown away, the page size is
now manually changed again to A4 and it prints as expected

Another PDF is opened, Printer Three is selected and the page size is
set to A1 - the drawing prints as expected.

Another PDF is opened, it's an A4 PDF and Printer One is selected -
HOWEVER the print fails as evince sends it as A1 (the last selected
size) to the A4 printer.

This is not how other packages work whereby the application/system
remembers the last page size for that particular printer rather than the
last page size used.

When I select different printers I expect the page size to change, not
to change the page size and printer for every print - especially
annoying when you have 3 printers set permanently at 3 different sizes.

LibreOffice, MS Office, Chrome etc. all behave differently.

[Bug 1238658] Re: rsync between two btrfs filesystems causes machines to crash with symptoms of memory leak

2013-10-19 Thread Sean Clarke
Sorry Joseph, I should have been clearer. It was with the mainline
kernel 3.12.0-999-generic #201310090426, I never gor around to trying
the rc5 kernel as you suggested - this is my company fileserver so I
cannot just do immediate changes (unless of course it has just crashed
and I am recovering).

I think the lock up problem now is related to bug #1237794 which I am
also looking at, I have not encountered anymore memory issues. so if you
wish you could close this as fixed upstream and I will continue with
#1237794

[Bug 1237794] Re: hard lockup on filserver

2013-10-17 Thread Sean Clarke
OK, after a week of further testing I don't think the issue is resolved.
I am moving about 150GB of data around and the system gives hard locks.

Nothing in the syslog, however I had a top running at failure and the
BTRFS processes went through the roof:

   000 R 100.0 0.0 0:51.50 [btrfs-transacti]

   000 R 72.1 0.0 0:11.68 [btrfs-flush_del]

   000 S 72.1 0.0 0:17.36 [btrfs-flush_del]

   000 R 57.8 0.0 0:12.34 [btrfs-flush_del]

   000 S 57.5 0.0 0:14.28 [btrfs-flush_del]

I will remove tag

OK, it is reproducible - I have a filserver with 6x 3TB in a BTRFS RAID

From a client (and using NFS) I copy a 95GB tar file from the fileserver
to a USB HD.

It seems at the very end (when BTRFS deletes the 95GB file on the server
it falls over - btrfs-transaction and btrfs-flush_del using 3 to 5 cores
at 50 to 100%.

[Bug 1238658] [NEW] rsync between two btrfs filesystems causes machines to crash with symptoms of memory leak

2013-10-11 Thread Sean Clarke
Public bug reported:

Using the latest 13.10 (kernel 3.11.0-12-generic) we performed a backup
which is essentially an rsync from a 6 disk array to a USB HDD - both
are BTRFS filesystems

After several hours the machine was unresponsive and the screen full of
out of memory errors and killing lots of different processes.

This was happening at the same time as bug #1237794 - the bugs may be
related, they may not.

[Bug 1237794] [NEW] hard lockup on filserver

2013-10-10 Thread Sean Clarke
Public bug reported:

Hi,
My Core i7 18TB BTRFS file server has been upgraded to 13.10 and since
doing so locks up frequently. Previously it never crashed and was only taken
down for maintenance, Monday we upgraded to 13.10 and since then it locks up
ever 20hrs or so. We were doing a large backup last night and it locked up
within 6 or so hrs.

On the 1st occurrence absolutely nothing was in the logs, on the 2nd
occurrence there was some NFS hang messages, when system comes back up I
will check and post any logging information gleaned.

[Bug 1052822] [NEW] nfsv4 hangs under load

2012-09-19 Thread Sean Clarke
Public bug reported:

This should be simple enough to reproduce..

Essential I have 2 machines, an NFS server and single client - I
configure rhe client to use nfs v3 and it all works fine, i can
rsync1.5+TB of data without issue.

Change client to use nfs v4 and the system hangs - if i use TCP I see
the following in the logs:

(here KVM is mentioned as I was creating load by starting multiple VMs
simultaneously - but the system hangs no matter what I do to create the
load over NFS)

When I configure the client to use UDP the system still hangs, but
nothing is logged and if top was running previously to the hang it will
still be actively running and showing wait at 100% across all
CPUs/cores.

The server seems fine, other clients etc. can mount whilst the client is
hung and once the client is restarted it works fine (until it hangs
again).

I have experienced this with the current LTS 12.04.1 as well as the
current 12.10 development release.

[Bug 1042369] Re: SCSI bus errors with 3TB HDDs + data corruption

2012-09-13 Thread Sean Clarke
Ok progress

I downloaded the latest main branch kernel (3.6.0-030600rc5-generic
#201209082035 SMP Sun Sep 9 00:36:02) and I no longer get bus resets!!!

It isn't all plain sailing, I did notice that the hot swappable function
didn't appear to work (when I inserted disks Linux did not detect it) so
I had to reboot, but when the system came back I could create RAID array
etc. without errors.

I have coped across 1TB of data and so far all looks OK. I will
continue testing.

[Bug 1042369] Re: SCSI bus errors with 3TB HDDs + data corruption

2012-09-10 Thread Sean Clarke
I see that 12.10 beta 1 has been released and this contains an updated
kernel (3.5.0-14), is it worth testing with this or as I have confirmed
the bug is in the 3.6 upstream release there is no need.

Still no response from upstream, should this bug not be marked as
critical as it has been reproduced on 2 different systems and has caused
data corruption?

No information received from upstream regarding bug report - very
disappointing considering the seriousness of this bug

Interestingly I have a Thecus NAS running a modified 2.6.33.7 kernel -
and it recognised and formatted one of the 3TB drives and I was able to
copy 300+GB of data to it without any errors.

[Bug 1042369] [NEW] SCSI bus errors with 3TB HDDs + data corruption

2012-08-27 Thread Sean Clarke
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I am building a NAS unit with 6x Seagate 3TB HDDs. When using the drives I
get a flood of errors in the kernel log.

I have replaced the motherboard and even upgraded to 12.10 'Quantal
Quetzal' and still the broblem remains.

Here you can see 2 devices erroring, here I was creating a btrfs filesystem
across all devices.

I have just plugged a HD into a Windoze machine and run the basic test
(i.e. all except the long test) from Sea Tools and teh disk is
reported as fine.

[Bug 979758] Re: package fails to configure on failing to find /etc/init.d/nis

2012-04-27 Thread Sean Clarke
Very painful issue - system NIS server non functional and whole network
is on a go slow (with timeouts), I do not know of a workaround. I tried
force etc. but it all still fails.

Interestingly nis installed on the clients - just seems to be this
server upgrade so it may be a dependency (?) type thing.

[Bug 601871] Re: doesn't print corectly on A4 paper size

2011-12-29 Thread Sean Clarke
Still present in 11.04, 11.10 and 12.04 (development) - also, changing
to Oracle Java 7 has no effect.

I can't ascertain if we are looking at a Java bug or a Java-Gnome bug.
i suspect the latter, as on other systems where i have different
printers installed I see correct default page size selection, so at an
educated guess I would lean towards the interaction between the Java and
Gnome printing.
