[Bug 322880] [NEW] new kernel makes rtl8187b ID 0bda:8198 unusable under Windows Vista

2009-01-29 Thread Spreech
Public bug reported:

Hello,

with the new kernel 2.6.27.11 I have a problem with my network card
rtl8187b ID 8198.

Up to now the network card didn't not work out of the box on ubuntu.
With the new kernel the network card workes out of the box (problems with speed
and connection mentioned here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/182473 still exists).

I have Windows Vista installed, too.

After upgrading to the new kernel the network card is (strangely enough)
unusable under Windows. All connection attemps failed.

I am sure that the reaons is the new kernel support for device id 8198
because a month ago I used the compat drivers to make rtl8187b useable
under ubuntu. And when I installed the compat drivers the problem that
the card is not useable under Windows occurs, too. When I uninstalled
the compat drivers I was able to use the card under Windows again.

Other persons who used compat drivers reported the same problem.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2009-01-29 Thread Spreech
Hello,

I have Toshiba Satellite L300-D with Realtek RTL8187b Chip ID 8198.
Using Ubuntu 8.10.

With the new kernel update 2.6.27.11 the network card is detected automatically
(which has not happened before).
And I can confirm the problems mentioned above.

I have to fix the rate to 11M to use the internet but it is not the fastest of
course.
With 54M I can not use the internet.
