[Bug 1901736] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: Most of the time Ubuntu boots the dock seems to freeze and not load any icons, sometimes for up to a minute. [Bug 1846899] Re: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver on GeForce GT 730 (bionic)
The video card in question has died... The machine wouldn't boot at all with the video card in the machine. So I think the bug report should be retired, not so much resolved as unresolvable. I can't collect any more data on the symptoms and I can't swear the problem wasn't an early indication of hardware failure. Thanks to all who had suggestions. I did manage to try the NVidia 430 driver before it died. It didn't work, but it had different symptoms. X wouldn't come up, but I could ctrl-alt-f1 to get to a command line and switch back to nouveau, instead of having to boot to command line. It was replaced with an even older card (GeForce 9500 GT), which also didn't work with the NVidia drivers, and had an unreliable fan, so I had to put an extra fan in the case until I got around to applying a crowbar to the notoriously tight wallet and get a brand new Radeon RX580. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846899 Title: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver on GeForce GT 730 (bionic) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1846899/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1846899] Re: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver
If it helps interpreting the logs: when the log file snapshot was taken, I was of course running the Nouveau drivers, 'cause that's the only way the system works. But the boot attempt immediately preceeding that was with the NVidia 390 drivers installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846899 Title: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1846899/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1846899] [NEW] X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver
Public bug reported: The video card is a GeForce GT 730, which worked well with Ubuntu 16.04. After changing to Xubuntu 18.04, I can only run the Nouveau driver and the lack of acceleration is quite noticeable. When I try to enable the "tested" NVidia driver (390), the system never presents a log-in prompt, I just get a colorful display of large blinking gibberish. I have to go to the boot options, go directly to root prompt, and remove the NVidia driver. This make the system usable again, but I'm back to the Nouveau driver. I get similar symptoms with version 340.107 of the NVidia driver. It's a little hard to collect debug information when I can't get to a prompt to look at log files... Suggestions are welcome. [Bug 673339] Re: eee pc 900 fails to resume from sleep. ubuntu 10.10. ssd and wifi LEDs lit, power cycle needed to restart.
I can confirm this behaviour on my Eeepc 900 w/ Ubuntu 10.10. In fact, it's a little broader. For me, the computer won't wake up after closing the lid, even when it is set only to blank the screen. So I have to cycle power EVERY time I close and re-open the lid--I have yet to find a setting that will allow me to close it with re-booting. Shortly, if I have some free time, I'll try ssh'ing in when it's apparently locked and try to see if it's the kernel or X that's dying (but I can't get to a console when it's stuck.) This is pretty annoying limitation--I'll be going back to Eeebuntu if I can't get it resolved. if this is an ACPI issue, it may be relevant that 10.10 also can't correctly read the battery capacity or state of charge on the Eeepc 900. it gets something, because it does warn me about low battery, but it never gives me a percentage. It also tells me every time it re-boots that the battery may be broken. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/673339 Title: eee pc 900 fails to resume from sleep. ubuntu 10.10. ssd and wifi LEDs lit, power cycle needed to restart. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 486022] [NEW] HP LJ2200D JetDirect recognised but doesn't print: /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hplip I've just upgraded to 9.10 from 9.04 My HP LJ2200D was working fine with 9.04 and the version of CUPS that came with that version (1.3). It is still working from another machine which is still running 9.04 so there is no problem with the printer. 9.10 comes with a new version of CUPS (1.4.1) I have eventually managed to get hp-setup to discover the printer on the network using the SLP network discovery method. Manually putting in the IP address did not work for some reason even though I could ping the address fine. CUPS localhost:631 would not find the printer but now recognises it having set up with the hp setup tool. So, now it recognises the printer, I can access the printer via the browser and see all the settings etc. BUT, it will not print. Even printing a test page from either the HP toolbox or from CUPS gives the error /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed The hp file is in the stated folder. I have tried reinstalling hplip but no change. I have tried different drivers including the one I was previously using. Now have HP LaserJet 2200 Postscript (recommended) (grayscale) installed. I have looked extensively at other bug reports and howto pages but cannot fix this. Please help as not being able to print is a big problem for me! ** Affects: hplip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- HP LJ2200D JetDirect recognised but doesn't print: /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 469753] [NEW] Government Icons not displayed in freeciv-client-gtk
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: freeciv-client-gtk When selecting a government type in Ubuntu 9.10 and above, there are no icons to differentiate between government types. The icons appeared in Ubuntu 8.04 - 9.04, so I assume their removal was due to the general gtk icon removal in Karmic These icons should appear, as the menu looks mismatched without them, and they aid in differentiating between government types.
