[Bug 1786863] Re: Task bar mouse pointer gets 'stuck' on arrow-pointing-to-hand
I've had a variant on this problem occur just now; the taskbar is now permanently corrupt (it looks like some icon has been stuck half- dragged, not that I was trying to drag anything). I've attached two screenshots; corrupt-taskbar-1.png is when I first noticed this, corrupt-taskbar-2.png is after experimentally dragging some icons on the taskbar to see if it resolved things. ** Attachment added: "corrupt-taskbar-1.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinnamon/+bug/1786863/+attachment/5175211/+files/corrupt-taskbar-1.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1786863 Title: Task bar mouse pointer gets 'stuck' on arrow-pointing-to-hand To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinnamon/+bug/1786863/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1786863] Re: Task bar mouse pointer gets 'stuck' on arrow-pointing-to-hand
I just had this happen again, and *one* of the window icons on the taskbar can no longer be selected - clicking on it has no effect, while clicking on other window icons does bring them into the foreground. I am not sure if this always happens, just sometimes with a window I haven't tried to bring into the foreground, or if it is intermittent. But in any case, this isn't purely cosmetic after all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1786863 Title: Task bar mouse pointer gets 'stuck' on arrow-pointing-to-hand To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinnamon/+bug/1786863/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1786863] [NEW] Task bar mouse pointer gets 'stuck' on arrow-pointing-to-hand
Public bug reported: Sometimes - I'm afraid I don't know precisely what triggers it, I suspect it is an accidental drag over a task bar icon - the mouse pointer shown when hovering over the task bar gets stuck showing "small hand with a small arrow below and to the right of it pointing at the hand" instead of the usual arrow pointer. Once this happens I can't find any way to get back to the normal pointer except using "ALT-F2 r" to restart cinnamon. The pointer is fine over other windows when this happens, it's just over the task bar. I can switch away to a virtual console and back without it making any difference. This seems mostly cosmetic; I can still click on icons on the task bar. (I probably have the terminology wrong. By "task bar" I mean the bar which shows the names of the open windows; clicking on one of the windows shown on that bar brings that window to the foreground.) This is with Ubuntu 18.04.1, the cinnamon package is 3.6.7-8ubuntu1. ** Affects: cinnamon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1786863 Title: Task bar mouse pointer gets 'stuck' on arrow-pointing-to-hand To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinnamon/+bug/1786863/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1701758] [NEW] Too easy to accidentally click restart when trying to suspend, with no confirmation requested
Public bug reported: (This is an enhancement request. I don't know if this is the appropriate place for it or not, please let me know if I should raise this elsewhere.) Choosing the "session" icon from the cinnamon menu opens a dialog box offering the choices: - Suspend - Restart - Cancel - Shutdown If you miss the Suspend button and click on Restart, the system restarts with no warning or chance to abort. There should either be a confirmation dialog on choosing Restart, or the Suspend option should be physically separated from the other options somehow. (Suspend is fundamentally different, as it doesn't destroy any work, whereas Restart and Shutdown do.) [Bug 1084318] [NEW] growisofs does not detect attempts to burn too much data even when -dry-run is used
Public bug reported: I had a set of files I wanted to burn to a BD-R disc but wasn't sure if they would fit or not. I used -dry-run to check that no error was generated. I then performed the actual burn which failed 97% of the way into the burn with a 'No space left on device error'. The simulated shell session below shows the situation. [Since I was not taking a log of the terminal output and the actual burn caused the original dry run to scroll off the screen, I have recreated it - I put in a fresh disc (from the same batch) in order to genrate the -dry-run output. The output from ls -l and both growisofs invocations is genuinely copy-and-pasted from the temrinal, it is just that the -dry- run output is not the output from the dry run I did before the failed burn.] $ ls -l total 24307920 -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1052695689 Nov 3 18:56 vhs-1000a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1083126819 Nov 3 19:14 vhs-1000b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1083174525 Nov 3 19:42 vhs-1000c.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 497238606 Nov 3 19:24 vhs-1000d.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven204 Nov 3 20:32 vhs-1000.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 978945163 Nov 3 21:48 vhs-1001a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 924884933 Nov 4 02:10 vhs-1001b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 460940875 Nov 4 13:11 vhs-1001c.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 28732475 Nov 4 14:34 vhs-1001d.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 81 Nov 4 01:58 vhs-1001.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1012172356 Nov 4 17:23 vhs-1002a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1034447960 Nov 4 19:49 vhs-1002b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 938083234 Nov 4 22:06 vhs-1002c.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven101 Nov 4 21:48 vhs-1002.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 665536352 Nov 4 23:41 vhs-1003a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1044379623 Nov 5 01:53 vhs-1003b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 185381342 Nov 5 21:34 vhs-1003c.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 815451754 Nov 6 00:32 vhs-1003d.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 210324637 Nov 6 00:17 vhs-1003e.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 305323343 Nov 6 00:38 vhs-1003f.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven103 Nov 6 00:01 vhs-1003.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1023484503 Nov 6 23:13 vhs-1004a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 436810767 Nov 7 00:31 vhs-1004b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven139 Nov 6 23:50 vhs-1004.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1044175788 Nov 10 11:31 vhs-1005a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 765090192 Nov 10 15:19 vhs-1005b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven176 Nov 10 16:19 vhs-1005.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 975131320 Nov 10 21:33 vhs-1006a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1005047976 Nov 10 20:32 vhs-1006b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1044469239 Nov 10 23:11 vhs-1006c.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 161754066 Nov 11 00:23 vhs-1006d.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 79 Nov 11 01:24 vhs-1006.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 779149699 Nov 11 16:54 vhs-1007a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 238524689 Nov 11 17:04 vhs-1007b.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1023501103 Nov 11 17:42 vhs-1007c.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 947615221 Nov 11 19:55 vhs-1007d.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 81 Nov 11 19:42 vhs-1007.txt -rw-rw-r-- 2 steven steven 903519912 Nov 12 00:14 vhs-1008a.m4v -rw-rw-r-- 2 steven steven 160640989 Nov 15 00:51 vhs-1008c.m4v -rw-rw-r-- 2 steven steven 26 Nov 11 23:14 vhs-1008.txt -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 1129221727 Nov 18 23:30 vhs-1009a.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 932119524 Nov 20 23:33 vhs-1009c.m4v -r--r--r-- 2 steven steven 69 Nov 20 21:20 vhs-1009.txt $ growisofs -dry-run -Z /dev/dvd5 -R -J -V "VHS rips 1" . [Bug 652171] Re: Add ability to split to a scan into two pages
Sorry, I think my comment above is slightly off or at least confusingly worded. What I guess my simple solution would really boil down to would be a new button which effectively is 'pretend you scanned a new page, but really just use this one again'. You could then use that between cropping two 'sub-pages' of a double page spread. -- Add ability to split to a scan into two pages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 652171] [NEW] Add ability to split to a scan into two pages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: simple-scan When scanning a multi-page document such as a book where a double page spread fits onto the scanner, it would be nice to be able to crop out two separate regions which become two distinct pages in the scanned document. At the moment it seems to be necessary to use some other tool to post-process the scanned document or scan each double page spread twice and crop out the desired page each time. At the simplest level, I think this could be done by providing buttons which perform each half of the 'Scan' button's behaviour. The 'Scan' button effectively seem to do the following: - add the (cropped, if cropping is in use) current page to the document being built up - scan a new page If these two pieces of functionality were made available separately, it would be possible to crop out the first page of a double page spread, click 'add', crop out the second page of the double page spread, then click 'scan' (or 'add' and 'scan without add'). Obviously it would also be possible to implement this by allowing two crop areas at the same time, but I thought the above would be simple to implement and fairly simple to use. [Bug 598902] Re: Confusing printer properties for HP 2605
Thanks a lot, I can confirm that the halftone etc options no longer have 'duplicate' names. I can also see a 'Printer Resolution' option under 'Image Quality'. I must admit I am now confused as to how this works, since I can apparently specify the resolution there *and* in the 'Print Color as Gray' option. If 'Print Color as Grey' was a simple yes/no choice, it would make sense, but it allows me to choose resolution as well. I have performed a couple of test printouts and they worked; I am not going to pretend I am enough of an expect to distinguish whether the options are working correctly. -- Confusing printer properties for HP 2605 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598902 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 613078] [NEW] Black lines appear at bottom of maximised gnome-terminal/terminator window after minimising a maximised covering window
Public bug reported: In both gnome-terminal and terminator, I can reliably generate minor corruption of the terminal window as follows: - open a terminal window - maximise it to full screen - ensure the terminal background is white - open another window (e.g. Firefox or Thunderbird) to full screen, covering the terminal window - minimise the covering window - black 'bars' appear in the lowest row of pixels in the terminal window (see attached screenshot) I suspect this has something to do with the bottom part of the terminal window which is not large enough for a line of text; if the terminal window happens to be a multiple of the text height it may not happen. (I have not tried to confirm this.) I am using a 1440x900 screen resolution with a panel at the top and bottom. My 'Visual Effects' setting is 'None'. I am filing this against vte as I can reproduce it in two terminal emulators. If you need any more information please let me know. Apologies if this is a duplicate, but I did read through all the other rendering bugs and nothing seemed to match this. [Bug 577916] Re: lucid regression: does not resume from hibernation
My hibernate stopped working after a fresh install of 10.04. Symptoms were that it would appear to hibernate correctly, but on restart would just boot to the login screen and once I logged in networking was disabled. Following the above I had a look at /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume - it didn't exist. I ran: sudo update-initramfs -u and it didn't generate any errors but that file still didn't exist afterwards. I manually populated the file with: RESUME=UUID=7482c5cb-6168-45dd-bfce-041561c80512 and ran the update command again. It said: update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-23-generic cryptsetup: WARNING: found more than one resume device candidate: /dev/sdb5 UUID=7482c5cb-6168-45dd-bfce-041561c80512 These are both the same device, although my fstab refers to the swap device by UUID. Anyway, I hibernated and this time it worked - I got a 'resuming' message on the boot screen after the grub menu. So I suspect my problem was some sort of mismatch over the swap partition name, though I have no idea how it came about. For what it's worth, I left my old partitions in place (originally created by an Ubuntu installed back in 2005/2006 - I did in-place upgrades until this time) when I installed 10.04. The installer refused to recognise my swap partition (I cannot remember the details, I'm afraid) and I had to do the install without swap (no problem as I have 2GB RAM) and manually add the swap myself afterwards. So maybe I added it badly, I suspect I copied the /etc/fstab line from the backup I had taken before the reinstall (left to my own devices I would probably just have called it /dev/sdb5) but I can no longer be sure. Sorry this is a bit vague but I thought the information just might be useful. And thanks to the guys above for pointing me in the direction of a solution. -- lucid regression: does not resume from hibernation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577916 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 598902] [NEW] Confusing printer properties for HP 2605
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups The 'Color Options' in the printer properties for the HP Color Laserjet 2605 using the recommended driver are confusing, with multiple drop-down lists with the same name. See attached screenshot 1. My understanding based on web searches is that these repeated options specify the desired configuration for different printing modes (text, graphics and photo). This is not at all clear from the dialog. Moreover, I cannot see any way to choose which of these three printing modes to use. I believe this is upstream (hplip) bug 236734, although the behaviour is not identical - the screenshot in the upstream bug shows an additional 'Color Options' choice at the start, which may be a way to choose one of the three printing modes. In any case, that choice is not visible on my machine. There is also an apparently empty section 'Image Quality' at the bottom of the 'Printer Options', which is at best ugly and to my mind suggests some kind of error in the PPD or its interpretation. See attached screenshot 2. Both the confusing 'Color Options' section and the empty 'Image Quality' section are the same in the local CUPS web page (http://localhost:631/admin/#HPColorOptionsPanel), allowing for the different presentation. This can be reproduced without owning the printer - I found this bug while examining the support for this printer prior to purchasing. Detailed steps to reproduce: - choose System->Administration->Printing from the top menu - click Add in the Printing window toolbar - choose 'LPT #1' and click Forward (I have nothing attached to the parallel port, for what it is worth) - choose 'HP' and click Forward - choose 'Color Laserjet 2605' under 'Models' - leave the default option of 'HP Color Laserjet 2605 Postscript [en] (recommended)' selected under 'Drivers' - click Forward - click Forward - click Apply - say 'No' to printing a test page - right-click on the newly added printer in the Printing window and choose Properties - select 'Printer Options' in the list box at the left of the properties dialog - scroll down to 'Color Options' to see the duplicate drop-down menus - scroll down to the bottom to see the 'orphan' header 'Image Quality' ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: cups 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.36-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Jun 26 21:59:20 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100427.1) Lpstat: Error: command ['lpstat', '-v'] failed with exit code 1: lpstat: No destinations added. [Bug 598896] [NEW] Contradictory information about downloadable driver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups The system claims a driver is and is not downloadable for HP 2605dn. To reproduce: - no printer needed (I found this bug while checking support for this model prior to purchasing) - Choose System->Administration->Printing from the top menu - click Add in the Printing window toolbar - choose 'LPT #1' (I have nothing connected to my parallel port, for what it's worth) - click Forward - choose 'Search for a printer driver to download' - type '2605dn' in the 'Make and model' text box - click Search - 'HP Color Laserjet 2605dn' appears in the 'Printer model' drop down menu - click Forward - the window changes to the attached screenshot, saying that 'there are drivers available for download' but with nothing apparently visible in the 'Downloadable Drivers' section, which is partly obscured by a large box saying 'With this choice no driver download will be performed. In the next steps a locally installed driver will be selected.' - despite the text in the box obscuring the 'Downloadable Drivers' section, the 'Forward' button is greyed out so there is no way to proceed to the 'next steps' ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: cups 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.36-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Jun 26 21:36:41 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100427.1) Lpstat: Error: command ['lpstat', '-v'] failed with exit code 1: lpstat: No destinations added. [Bug 597302] [NEW] Please package new upstream version 2.2.16
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dbmail I had problems with some messages temporarily becoming invisible in mailboxes. I believe this is due to upstream bug 827 (http://www.dbmail.org/mantis/view.php?id=827). I have built my own local package of 2.2.16 and the problem seems to be resolved. It would be good if Ubuntu had a more recent version than 2.2.11 packaged. If my local build is anything to go by, this should involve no more than dropping in the new tarball, updating the changelog etc and rebuilding. Thanks. ** Affects: dbmail (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Please package new upstream version 2.2.16 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109629] Re: 3com NIC stops working after some time
As requested I have upgraded to the following kernel: Linux riemann 2.6.27-2-generic #1 SMP Thu Aug 28 17:20:02 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux and have not seen the problem. I also never saw it with the previous kernel, vmlinuz-2.6.24-21-generic. I did experience it earlier, apologies for not immediately reporting this when I upgraded to whichever precise kernel fixed it but since I never saw a notice claiming the bug was fixed I forgot about it. [Bug 182341] Second CPU not always used
Public bug reported: Hi, I am running boinc 5.10.8 with the [EMAIL PROTECTED] project on my Athlon 64X2 box (with the 32-bit version of Ubuntu). When it first starts up it correctly runs two rosetta_beta processes to use both CPUs, but sometimes one of them disappears and doesn't come back. I don't know if this is due to the process crashing, but it only ever seems to go from 2->1, not 1->0. If I do 'sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart', I get two processes again. Thanks. [Bug 135300] Accessing File menu after starting OpenOffice locks up machine for approx 10 mins
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org Hi, I suspect this is not going to be a useful report, but I'll do what I can, and if you need any more details let me know. When I start OpenOffice, I usually go to the File menu (to e.g. open a document, or print one if I opened a document from the command line with 'oowriter foo'). When I do that, often (but not always, I think) my entire machine locks up. I used to think it had crashed and just rebooted, but lately I have noticed that if I wait for what seems like 5-10 minutes everything comes back OK. I don't think it is swapping as there is not continual hard drive activity during this time. Usually the mouse pointer will follow mouse movements, but the keyboard LEDs are unresponsive and I am unable to perform any operations using the mouse (e.g. switching to a terminal to see what processes might be eating CPU). I am using what I believe to be a bog-standard version of Feisty Fawn. I am using the proprietary fglrx X server, since I am unable to get anything else to work with my Radeon X1300 card, this may or may not be relevant. I don't know what else I can say, I couldn't see any similar bug reports so thought I would raise this as an issue even though I doubt there's enough information here to be helpful. I should say this has been happening for a long time, but up until recently when I noticed the machine had not locked up permanently, I just put it down to the X server crashing and decided it wasn't worth reporting since it's proprietary software. Any suggestions on how I could investigate this further would be gratefully received. Thanks. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Accessing File menu after starting OpenOffice locks up machine for approx 10 mins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 79668] Re: Average Bit Rate MP3s report incorrect length
Thanks, I have been noticing this continually but just to be sure have re-tested it now and it is still occurring; a 3m 3s track just ripped is shown in rhythmbox as a 7m 22s track. Trying wit other applications: 'mp3info -x' gives a length of 3m 3s (correct) mplayer gives a length of 7m 22s (incorrect, matching rhythmbox) totem gives a length of 3m 1-10s (correct-ish; the track length shown fluctuates during play!) I'd be happy to examine the file with any tools you can recommend and provide the output if you think it would help. I have tried downloading the tribe 4 CD to test this but it failed, I think my CD image may have been corrupt. I will try again later and let you know the result. -- Average Bit Rate MP3s report incorrect length https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/79668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 79668] Re: Average Bit Rate MP3s report incorrect length
Sorry, I should have been more explicit - the incorrect track length can be (for example) 16 minutes when the track is about 5-6 minutes or similar. It's not always that extreme either. It's never ridiculously large or small, so I don't think it's a negative number being treated as positive or anything like that. I think it's always on the high side, but I can't be certain. -- Average Bit Rate MP3s report incorrect length https://launchpad.net/bugs/79668 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 79668] Average Bit Rate MP3s report incorrect length
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sound-juicer Hi, I have set up a GNOME audio profile to encode my MP3s (which I rip using Sound Juicer) as 80kbps ABR. When I play these (for example, but not exclusively) using Rhythmbox, they show an incorrect track length. I have older MP3s which I ripped using jack+lame (on Debian, not Ubuntu) which display the length correctly. I note bug #63851, but since I am using different packages and having read the history of that bug I'm not sure it's the same. The GStreamer pipeline for this audio profile is: audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc vbr=abr vbr-mean- bitrate=80 ! id3mux I've raised this against Sound Juicer since that's at the 'start' of the ripping process, but I can imagine the bug (if there is one; I'm not GStreamer expert and may have missed something important from that pipeline) is actually in GStreamer, lame or something else - I hope you can re-assign appropriately if so. Thanks.
