[Bug 1749595] [NEW] No window, wrong size
Public bug reported: Since Ubuntu 17, I have had the following bug, I assumed it would be fixed without my input but has not. When opening some package, sometimes the icon appears on the left, but no window will appear. This occurs most often with any pdf software, but also Libre, but also shot-well, cheese or mainly graphics programs. The problem goes away if the software is closed and restarted, but sometimes this requires several attempts. This also occurs sometimes (the most annoying) if the software is iconized and then re-enlarged. Also, the default window size, only for graphics software and pdf, opens windows that occupy 2 or three work spaces. If the internal defaults are corrected, the same window size opens regardless. This makes it difficult to size a window every time it is opened. As this occurs across several programs, I do not know how to collect the proper bug information. [Bug 818544] Re: Brother MFC-240C FAX/Printer error
I read part of the CUPS manual as well, as of 3-8-2011 and the fixes dont work. I set things via command line with cupsd, and cupsfilter, etc...but didnt fix problem. I used a generic cups.conf file, and have also tried the foirfox/browser things -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/818544 Title: Brother MFC-240C FAX/Printer error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/818544/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 818544] Re: Brother MFC-240C FAX/Printer error
I should add, I used a generic cups.conf file, and have also tried the foirfox/browser things, -This will not allow me to login as administraitor. Also, most of the fixes are for prior versions of Ubuntu, and the administraition tools appearance, and also the actual printer device thingy has changed significantly, so there are no real solutions on older post or via web. I also installed the Gintu printer device manager, which just did the same thing I did from the command line prettier, but this didnt work either. [Bug 818544] [NEW] Brother MFC-240C FAX/Printer error
Public bug reported: Before the extensive listing. I had the printer working fine through manually installing the printer drivers from the Brother software site since 9.10, and also for a HP printer. A couple weeks back, the universal printer drivers were changed on my Computer via a popup updater (damned thing). I tried removing everything, and re-installing the origional printers. One problem is most of the online help is for the older 10.10, and is always using menues that have been removed. I also busted out my linux manual and used the lpadmin, and manually configuring cups. The cups file looks fine, but constantly changes permissions every ten minutes to only allow root to access it. In addition I get the following error: lpinfo: cups-driverd failed to execute. cupsd: Child exited on signal 15! The main error printed starts like this: Cannot execute command due to filter stopping job because scheduler cannot execute filter ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/818544 Title: Brother MFC-240C FAX/Printer error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/818544/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 668691] Re: sound not working
Dear Mr. Henningsson and all, I finally got around to doing the above. In addition, I can no longer run alsaconf, and the alsa-utils is not found even though there, along with half the other alsa files. Pulsaudio is unable to initialize, but I do not know if this is because of your prior post to this. I did try re-installing pulse audio as well. [Bug 668691] Re: sound not working
Additional Info: I spent a little time tracing the archatecture of my system. The sound cards are not installed anywhere, Under dev/ati --card0 and card1 are there, but the files are empty alsa tries to load a number of files in/from wrong paths the asound.state file is empty there is no DIR /dev/fs only dev/fd the /boot/grub/device.map only list the hard drives and is missing anything related to sound devices , in addition, I do not know the proper way to add the device to grubs device.map file, or the proper folders, etc other than empty files. Basically, the ati device manager seems to try and set up, then load the cards0 and cards1 , which are empty files, and then the alsa loads, and seems to have some errors with the way it is set in the strucutre of the system (ie several wrong paths and 1-2 missing important files) Then when the whole system is loaded, it somehow finds the two cards, ie the onboard sound intel chips, and the radeon graphics card with a firewire sound outlet. These are both listed in the above as unclaimed, but alsa and everything else can not mount them, nor are there any relavent cards or devices under /dev/. In any case, I aside from not having the time, I do not want to spend days on this. I tried de-installing and re-installing alsa from code, but it always seems to set up the same way. I also tried getting/editing GRUB with no success to load the sound card on boot, to no avail. Any suggestions/help? I personally wounder if anyone has a quick view of their or normal alsa on a system (ie the files and locations, and depends but not thier actual content) or a quick fix by changing GRUB to load the card. [Bug 668691] [NEW] sound not working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio Please see my other post a couple weeks back. I had posted all the diagnostics for the sound system. This is the general ubuntu-debug sound command line bug report. Basically, since I updated from 9.10 to 10.10 my onboard sound stopped working. When I do get also running, it never can find a device, ie the onboard sound. Also, even if I know the problem, the sound device is not being loaded at boot, and then alsa seems to crash later, I still do not know how to fix it. [Bug 668691] Re: sound not working
Additional info: when I check the /proc/asound/cards it says ---no cards found--- I have a pcie graphics card with sound I do not use, and the onboard sound. These are listed below. If I manually add them to the 'cards' file, what does the structure look like, or does anyone have a generic one (a template) and does this work? In addition, under dev/snd all there is is a Timer. How do I get grub/boot to load the card, or is it alsa? Can I just change the config file under /boot from =m to Y(es), or do I have to recompile the entire ubuntu 10.10 installation, and finally, I have an intel P6T board, my Ubuntu version is now amd64, and does it matter if it actually functions? aplay: device_list:235: no soundcards found... *-multimedia UNCLAIMED description: Audio device product: Cypress HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5800 Series] vendor: ATI Technologies Inc physical id: 0.1 bus info: p...@:05:00.1 version: 00 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm pciexpress msi bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:fbafc000-fbaf *-multimedia UNCLAIMED description: Audio device product: 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1b bus info: p...@:00:1b.0 version: 00 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:fb8f8000-fb8fbfff -- sound not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668691 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
