To reproduce - 1) Boot from 5.10 Breezy Install CD (Update: also broken in Hardy Beta) + 1) Boot from 5.10 Breezy Install CD (Update: also broken in Hardy 8.04.1 and Intrepid 8.10) 2) Language: English 3) Location: Other: Finland What should happen: Keyboard dialog should have keyboard Finnish preselected, because that is the only keyboard used in Finland. Paper size should be A4 (US letter is only used in four countries in the world). Metric system should be used. Time should be presented in Finnish locale. What actually happens: answer to location question seems to be ignored. Keyboard question offers US keyboard as default. Paper size is US letter. Feet and inches are used in programs instead of the metric (SI) system. I assume that large part of computer literate users choose English as language. Many of us would still like to use the metric system or A4 paper size. Suggestions: Use location to set correct locales. [Bug 275418] [NEW] Scp freezes on named pipe
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openssh-client Scp stops copying files when it meets a named pipe (fifo). No error message is displayed, not even the name of the problem file. This can make copying /home/ impossible. ## Example To show a minimal example of this bug that can easily happen, I attempt to copy configuration directory of Quod Libet music player from a remote computer foobar. User foo has his login automated. $ scp -r [EMAIL PROTECTED]:.quodlibet/ . queries 100%1 0.0KB/s 00:00 accels 100% 2638 2.6KB/s 00:00 queue 100%0 0.0KB/s 00:00 songs 100% 259KB 259.3KB/s 00:01 config 100% 1106 1.1KB/s 00:00 Here, scp stops working. Waiting for 20 minutes does not help. Rest of the files from that directory are not copied. Scp can be terminated with ctrl-C. Correct action would obviously be skipping files that cannot be processed and displaying an error. This is especially clear if you consider copying a larger system where many users could have named pipes in their home directories. Files actually copied were normal files, and copy happened quickly. Even though config is the last file shown, the problem is probably named pipe (fifo) control, which next in the alphabet. Misleadingly scp only displays names for files it handles correctly, and the name of problem file control is not shown. $ ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED] 'ls -l .quodlibet/c*' -rw-r--r-- 1 foo foo 1106 2008-08-14 23:42 .quodlibet/config prw--- 1 foo foo0 2008-08-14 12:07 .quodlibet/control ** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Scp freezes on named pipe https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275418 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Problem can be bypassed by creating a symlink. From strace I can see that programs are looking for socket /tmp/.ICE- unix/6026. With 'ls', I can see that instead there is a socket /tmp /.ICE-unix/6943. To reproduce 0) Install Hardy Beta from Live-CD Installation proceeds normally to finish. 1) Do you want to continue using live-cd or reboot? Reboot The bug: Screen is messed.
