I have Asus ROG model and I am experiencing the same issues with the touchpad.
After opening the lid, the touchpad starts lagging for couple of seconds and
becomes disabled after that.

With that kernel the touchpad does not work at all.
This issue was partially fixed in Manjaro with 5.0 kernel but I assume the
Ubuntu kernel is different

Unfortunately I am not that familiar with the patching process.
I have read about it and I have tried the following without any success:
I have put the .diff file in this directory: /lib/modules/5.0.0-05-generic
and tried applying the patch the following command: patch -p1 <
intel-pinctrl-int
I am currently on Manjaro with 5.0 Kernel and the touchpad does not
disconnect but whenever I close the lid on the laptop and open it again,
it starts lagging and disconnects so I need to do a restart. On the
previous kernel it used to disconnect and also I have tried 5.1 and it
was also disconnect
I am experiencing the same behavior with the 4.19 kernel.
The touchpad does not work smoothly and freezes occasionally and I have to wait
for couple of minutes, after which it starts working again.
dmesg command gives the same output like what other people have
