I've tried all of the 10.10 ppa kernel backports as they are made available. This has made no difference. Each one in turn. I've also played with the mount lines. Here are some of the combinations I've tried: rw,noatime,nfsvers=3,udp,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,actimeo=3,sloppy,addr=135.149.74.51 udp - tcp no nfsvers=3 no actimeo no noatime The addr= bit was added because I had a NIC with multiple IP addrs and thought that that might be confusing it as the NFS docs state that the server IP resolution logic is not entirely correct. There are however some servers that have this problem and some that don't. [Bug 551707] Re: lucid installer hangs after parted_server crashes
Yes, definitely still a problem. The 10.04.1 ISO still has the same problem. It's not related to whether the install source is a CD/DVD or USB stick. I've worked around the problem by adding a: d-i partman/early_command string debconf-set partman-auto/disk $(/cdrom/preseed/nuke-old-lvm.sh) that does this (Note the previously posted fix didn't always work): # Remove lvm config vgremove -f system $output 21 || true pv=$(pvdisplay | grep PV Name | sed -e s/[[:space:]]*PV Name[[:space:]]*//) pvremove $pv $output 21 || true This isn't a proper fix, it's a hack. -- lucid installer hangs after parted_server crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/551707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 632554] [NEW] tomcat fails to start with: /bin/bash already running.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tomcat6 While it's not recommended to run tomcat as root, there are circumstances that make it a necessity, like embedded systems. (IMHO Linux should not enforce policy at this level) Anyway, setting the following in /etc/default/tomcat6 TOMCAT6_USER=root Yields this when trying to start tomcat: # /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start * Starting Tomcat servlet engine tomcat6 /bin/bash already running. If there are _any_ login sessions on the machine, IOW if there are any bash instances, it fails to run. So, here's a patch that fixes this while not making any changes to policy or who can run what as who.
[Bug 551707] Re: lucid installer hangs after parted_server crashes
Still broken. I'm attaching the lvm partitioning recipe that is present on disk that causes the installer to crash. Note, I have an ISO that uses this recipe and as such is a complete test case. If you would like the iso to test, please let me know where to upload it. ** Attachment added: lvm-map.recipe https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/551707/+attachment/1520557/+files/lvm-map.recipe -- lucid installer hangs after parted_server crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/551707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 551707] Re: lucid installer hangs after parted_server crashes
A simple script to delete the partitions called form the arly_command string should work, eg: d-i partman/early_command string debconf-set partman-auto/disk $(/cdrom/preseed/seed-disk.sh) /cdrom/preseed/seed-disk.sh: lvps=$(lvs |cut -d' ' -f 3 | grep -v LV) for lv in $lvps ; do lvremove $lv done Of course, this only works if you are building a complete ISO. It's doesn't do anything to help the distribution CDs. That needs a real fix in the parted_server. -- lucid installer hangs after parted_server crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/551707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev I have a rule that worked fine in jaunty: /etc/udev/rules.d/20-fc_hba.rule: ACTION==add, ATTR{class}==0x0c0400, PROGRAM=fc_hba.py, RESULT==skip, OPTIONS+=ignore_device, OPTIONS+=last_rule The fc_hba.py script returned skip unless the system was in runlevel 3. [Bug 606524] Re: ATTR{class} rules in /etc/udev/rules.d/ no longer work
I found a blog posting that expresses my sentiments on Lucid's udev exactly: http://shallowsky.com/blog/linux/kernel/lucid-udev.html This is good enough to quote. I love how if you give the udevadm info arguments in the wrong order, -p -a, it means something else and gives an error message. I love how udevadm test doesn't actually test the same rules udev will use, so it's completely unrelated to anything. I love the complete lack of documentation on things like string matching and how the numeric order is handled. I love how you can't match both the device name (a string) and the USB IDs in the same rule, because one is SUBSYSTEMS==scsi and the other is SUBSYSTEMS==usb. Finally, I love how there's no longer any way to test udev rules on a running system -- if you want it to actually create new devices, you have to reboot for each new test. service udev restart and udevadm control --reload-rules don't touch existing devices. Gives me that warm feeling like maybe I'm not missing out on the full Windows experience by using Linux. -- ATTR{class} rules in /etc/udev/rules.d/ no longer work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606524 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just to get a feel for the state here, is there currently any work done at all for this slapd-dit package? Why is this marked as Won't fix? Is Ubuntu planning a new LTS release with no LDAP? That'll go over well. Has anyone in canonocal mgmt even seen this? Or is it a nasty little surprise they'll get from the enterprisey first reviewer? I'm trying to plan for a development platform that was going to be 10.4 based, but needs ldap first out. Is there a workaround that can be used with pbuilder based chroots? All the hacks I've seen so far require that one have slapd already running on the target machine. What if one is building an inert filesystem for NFS boot ? How are we supposed to get ldap installed and initialized with no debconf support to prime the database? Yes there are no docs on how to do this but I would argue strongly against this being a doc issue. This is plain incomplete. This move should have waited until the slapd-dit package was complete. Can this be rolled back until it's ready? The current state of slapd makes 10.4 unusable for us. Has anyone tried building a previous ldap source drop on 10.4? Gets worse if you add SAN volumes that are NFS exported. There's a corner case here that's not working at all: 1 - QLogic SAN - Fails to come up until I reload qla driver with modprobe -r/modprobe 2 - NFS export, since #1 didn't come up, export also fails. 3 - Since #2 didn't come up, autofs also fails. -- portmap is not started during boot process before autofs and hence autofs does not work properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Re: [Bug 378240] Re: Please merge xen-3.4 (3.4.0-2) from debian unstable
Nice!! Thanks for the info. This is a strong argument for getting this into 10.4. No other distro has a pre-packages Xen dom0 with a kernel from this century, let alone with nvidia drivers working. The last LTS release had dom0 support so this one should too. (IMHO) -Bruce On Fri, Mar 26, 2010 at 7:54 AM, Thiago Martins thiagocmarti...@gmail.comwrote: Hi! Re: [Bug 378240] Re: Please merge xen-3.4 (3.4.0-2) from debian unstable
We have been successfully using a xen hypervisor 4.0.0-rc3 build on Ubuntu 9.10. I would think that packaging either this version or 3.4.x as an interim xen server release for Ubuntu would be a desirable option as it would provide a viable migration pack from 8.04 Xen servers. -Bruce On Fri, Mar 12, 2010 at 1:22 PM, agent 8131 agent.8...@infotage.net wrote: Unsurprisingly Xen 4.0 has not yet been released.
