[Bug 1044286] Re: cannot import scripts because upload_tmp_dir is not writable if apache user is not www-data

2013-05-18 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
It is Debian Policy that www-data is the Apache user and packages may rely on
that. You're of course free to change it, but it's up to you to change other
paths owned by www-data aswell (a simple find command will do that for you).
'Detecting' what the Apache user is in every package that ships a web app seems
error-prone. Setting the dir world-writable is obviously not desirable.

[Bug 694351] Re: Installer gives unclear tickbox

2013-02-16 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
This is not a valid patch as the debconf string can be presented in
various user interfaces which do not all contain a checkbox. In the
default text mode, the user is presented with a yes/no choice. The
question is valid - I see it more as a bug that this is implemented with
a checkbox in certain frontends. However, any alternate suggestion that
works in any of the existing frontends is appreciated.

[Bug 943881] Re: Unable to print to password protected (cups) printer

2013-02-15 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
I can confirm the issue: when configuring a printer in cups with the
AuthInfoRequired username, password option, the application should
prompt the user for their credentials. Gnome applications and Firefox do
this correctly, LO doesn't. I've tracked an upstream bug about it, and
added it to this bug.

[Bug 1072804] Re: Many Warnings with Viewing Mail

2012-12-10 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
This is because of newly added strict notices in PHP 5.4. They are
warnings intended for developers only, and thus have no effect on the
application.

It's recommend by PHP that production instances do not enable these
strict standards warnings and especially do not output them to the
browser. I recommend that you update your PHP configuration accordingly.

[Bug 888316] Re: apt-file can't handle 'mirror' protocol

2012-06-03 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
The basic problem here is that APT doesn't publish a good interface to
downloading files which apt-file could use, requiring apt-file to
reimplement all special cases like proxy handling. I'm not eager to
reinvent this wheel and hope the APT developers will at one point
provide a good interface to this process.

[Bug 547249] Re: Move the web interface to a separate package to remove apache dependance

2012-05-20 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
This is not easily achieved as also upstream Mailman is tightly
integrated and upstream also does not really support this separation.
Mailman 3.0 (now in beta) promises to support this better, I don't think
it's worthwhile to still invest time into this for the 2.x series. If
you really don't want apache, use equivs.

[Bug 190294] Re: gpg spams the terminal with passphrase message

2012-02-20 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
--batch is indeed the intended way to go here. Discussion with upstream
concluded that it's just not worth fixing the case where --batch is left
out.

[Bug 141290] Re: Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) patch for gnupg-1.4

2012-02-20 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
As 'gnupg' (which is the 1.4 branch) is considered to be in maintenance
mode and main development happens in gnupg2, I don't think this request
is appropriate for this package. It would be for gnupg2, but as the log
notes the patch has been merged upstream so will enter the package in
due course so there also no further action is necessary.

[Bug 317563] Re: caff doesn't send emails via SMTP with my From address

2009-02-21 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
It uses the specified email and owner variables for the From: header.
However, the Envelope FROM in the SMTP session is decided by the
Mail::Internet perl module that caff uses.

I think it should be possible to use the MailFrom option from this perl
module to specify the envelope from.

It's a design decision from caff to make it agnostic of which email
transport you use. Otherwise we would have to reimplement SMTP and
sendmail and ... functionality in this script, and in the next script,
etc. Adding such an option to caff is hence not 'simple' as it
complicates the codebase, rather than abstracting the sending away to
the tools that are good at sending email.

[Bug 84453] Re: msttcorefonts installs non-free fonts automatically and doesn't ask if user agrees with license

2009-02-21 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
I do not agree with this. The package description clearly states:

You will need an Internet connection to download these fonts if you
 don't already have them.

Also, the debconf templates include this information and the ability to
abort:

If you haven't yet downloaded these fonts, leave this blank and the fonts
will be downloaded for you. Approximately 4 MB will need to be downloaded.

If you are not connected to the internet or do not wish to download these
fonts now, enter none to abort.

About the LAN-installation: there is in fact a good way to avoid that,
and that is to specify a directory where the fonts can be found when
presented with the msttcorefonts/dldir debconf question. This is
intended exactly for such purposes.

The uninstallation problem has meanwhile been fixed.

Concluding, I don't think there's anything we can fix here.
