[Bug 1181927] Re: [Aspire V5-431]13.04: Brightness control visible but does nothing
Ok, a few questions. I visited the url http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D referened in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds under the section Upstream kernels archive. I downloaded the latest for saucy through Ubuntu-Mainline-Kernel-Updater script KernelUpdateChecker. So the kernel I downloaded should be upstream, yes? Either KernelUpdateChecker doesn't download from http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline or there is something that I don't understand. Anyways, if the real problem is the oldness of 3.12 and I should test it with 3.13-rc8 I will do so since it's just a few days old. I also noticed this comment under the section Upstream kernels archive: The upstream kernels archive is located at the URL below. There is a directory for each build. Note, if you are testing for a bug, please do not use the daily folder, but use the latest mainline kernel at the top. So will $ KernelUpdateChecker -r trusty download and install the right kernel for me to use as the base of the report? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181927 Title: [Aspire V5-431]13.04: Brightness control visible but does nothing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1181927/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1181927] Re: [Aspire V5-431]13.04: Brightness control visible but does nothing
3.12.0-031200rc6-generic [ 14.025391] acer_wmi: Brightness must be controlled by acpi video driver The same thing. ACPI thinks it can do the brightness but cannot, and with acpi_backlight=vendor (to disable ACPI controlling brightness), only the intel_backlight entry in /sys/class/backligt shows up and *is* working. So the kernel problem persist, they need to blacklist this laptop from ACPI brightness, like they did with so many other Acers. Now there is a desktop problem as well. [Bug 1181927] Re: 13.04: Brightness control visible but does nothing
I have installed 3.10.0-031000rc2-generic. I am not sure exactly what to report for the following reasons: 1. I am now getting /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight which I didn't have before, and adjusting the brightness by echoing to 'brightness' in that folder works. 2. The hotkeys shows the brightness overlay but doesn't change the brightness. So it's kind of fixed in that I can change the brightness, but at the same time the hotkeys don't work. I haven't messed with acpi_osi and acpi_backlight kernel parms. Let me know what you think I should do for the next step.
