[Bug 1647222] [NEW] [MIR] xdelta3
Public bug reported: MIR for xdelta3 This is a request to include the xdelta3 package in Ubuntu main. See below for point-for-point discussion of the items listed at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuMainInclusionRequirements [Availability] Ubuntu Zesty contains xdelta 3.0.11-dfsg-1 in universe. [Rationale] xdelta3 is required for the 'download delta' feature in snapd. This allows users to save a considerable amount of bandwidth when downloading updates for installed snap packages. The code has all landed in snapd behind a feature flag, but cannot be turned on by default until xdelta3 is in main, so snapd can depend on xdelta3. [Security] There was one CVE files against xdelta3 that I could find: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-9765 The xdelta3 package installs a single binary (/usr/bin/xdelta3) which is not suid or sgid. [Quality assurance] - The xdelta3 package requires no configuration after installation. - As far as I can tell, the package asks no debconf questions of any priority. - There are 90 open issues in the upstream bugtracker: https://github.com/jmacd/xdelta/issues - I've scanned the issue list, and while a few issues may impact Ubuntu users using xdelta3, none of them seem serious enough to warrant exclusion from main in my opinion (but what do I know - that's for someone else to determine). - The debian bug tracker contains security bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=814067 However this is fixed in the upstream release that's in zesty, and I can see a distropatch in the version that's in Xenial (I'm assuming it's been fixed in yakkety as well). - The debian package is maintained by 'A Mennucc1', see: https://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xdelta3.html - The xdelta3 packages does not require any exotic hardware. - I'm honestly not sure if the upstream test suite is run during the package build. I see no explicit test runs in debian/rules, but there is a 'check' make target, so perhaps that's invoked by default? - The package contains a debain/watch file. [UI Standards] The xdelta3 package ships command line utilities, so I think it's except from the requirements of this section. [Dependencies] The two dependencies of xdelta3 (libc6 and liblzma5) are both already in main. [Standards Compliance] Since xdelta3 is already in debian, I can only assume that it conforms to the related standards. [Maintenance] I think xdelta3 is relatively stable software, and the debian maintenance seems adequate to me to minimise the amount of work we need to do to keep this package in main. [Background Information] The xdelta3 package description contains a basic useful description of the purpose of the package. The motivation behind this MIR is described in the 'rationale' section of this bug report. ** Affects: xdelta3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647222 Title: [MIR] xdelta3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdelta3/+bug/1647222/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1575334] Re: Docking thinkpad laptop causes a complete system freeze
Hi, Sorry for losing track of this. My current situation is that on the latest xenial kernel (4.4.0-31-generic) I can happily dock and undock without the laptop freezing. ... instead, after undocking the laptop freezes when trying to suspend. Hi Joseph, Sorry, but I haven't gotten around to trying the last kernel you posted. In the meantime, Xenial had a new kernel released: 4.4.0-25-generic. In this latest kernel, I can now dock without everything freezing - yay! However, I now can't undock without everything freezing - booo! Somehow not being able to undock is worse than not being able to dock the laptop. Does this information help you narrow down the likely cause? Do you still need me to test the 4.4.0-10.25 kernel you listed above? [Bug 1575334] Re: Docking thinkpad laptop causes a complete system freeze
Ugh - sorry about this, but I realise I've messed up. I assumed that when you install a new kernel package it becomes the default kernel that grub boots. I now know that's not the case. I've gone back and re-tested all the mainline kernels: 4.2.0, 4.3.0, 4.4.0, and 4.6.0 all work perfectly with regards to this bug report. [Bug 1575334] [NEW] Docking thinkpad laptop causes a complete system freeze
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to Xenial, about 80% of the time when I dock my thinkpad laptop I get a complete system freeze. The symptoms of the freeze are: * The two external monitors connected to the dock seem to be in a half- configured state - they're powered on, and display some graphics from my desktop, but do not yet show the correct contents. * I can't get to a console with Ctrl+Alt+F1. * I can't kill X with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace * I can't get the mouse cursor to appear or move, either with the trackpad or the external mouse. * Undocking the laptop doesn't help. The only thing I *can* do at this point is to hold down the power button. I seem to recall similar issues in the past (perhaps in Vivid?), where the fix ended up being in the graphics driver. The laptop is a T540p. The docking station is an "ultra dock pro" - not a USB dock, but rather one of those ones where the laoptop clicks into a base. This bug makes the docking station rather useless, and makes me sad :( ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-21-generic 4.4.0-21.37 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-21.37-generic 4.4.6 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-21-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC2: thomi 3196 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: thomi 3196 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: thomi 3196 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Wed Apr 27 07:35:58 2016 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=d27c9b15-955a-4bff-b4a7-e6116a8b30bb InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-10-12 (197 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) MachineType: LENOVO 20BECTO1WW ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.4.0-21-generic.efi.signed root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-4.4.0-21-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-4.4.0-21-generic N/A linux-firmware1.157 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2016-04-21 (5 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 09/01/2015 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: GMET72WW (2.20 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20BECTO1WW dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40709 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrGMET72WW(2.20):bd09/01/2015:svnLENOVO:pn20BECTO1WW:pvrThinkPadT540p:rvnLENOVO:rn20BECTO1WW:rvrSDK0J40709WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 20BECTO1WW dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T540p dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575334 Title: Docking thinkpad laptop causes a complete system freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1575334/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1301574] [NEW] jquery hotkeys version in Ubuntu breaks python coverage html reports
Public bug reported: The version of libjs-jquery-hotkeys that we have in Ubuntu Trusty has been synced from Debian. The Debian package contains serveral changes (that aren't present in upstream) that break the python-coverage HTML reports. I filed a bug in Debian (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=740893) in the hopes that we could fix the problem in Debian, and sync the fix into Ubuntu. However, after several weeks we're no closer to a fix. I'd like to propose that we revert the package in Ubuntu until a fix is present in Debian. More details about the exact failure, and how to reproduce it are present in the Debian bug (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=740893) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: libjs-jquery-hotkeys 0~20130707+git2d51e3a9+dfsg-2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-19.40-generic 3.13.6 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-19-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.13.3-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Thu Apr 3 08:45:08 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-01-06 (86 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Alpha amd64 (20140105) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: libjs-jquery-hotkeys UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: libjs-jquery-hotkeys (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301574 Title: jquery hotkeys version in Ubuntu breaks python coverage html reports To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libjs-jquery-hotkeys/+bug/1301574/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1297900] Re: crash QUbuntu: Could not create application instance
Hi, Michael's analysis makes sense to me, *but*: It's the test case that launches dialer-app, not autopilot itself. The solutionn here is for test authors to call 'self.launch_upstart_application' to launch the apps - this uses upstart app launch, so should solve the problem. I'm marking the autopilot-qt bug task as invalid, since this really doesn't have anything to do with this project. Upstart-app-launch support is now in autopilot trunk. If the test cases use the 'launch_upstart_application' (http://unity.ubuntu.com/autopilot/api/testcase.html#autopilot.testcase.AutopilotTestCase.launch_upstart_application) and you still have problems, please open a bug against autopilot itself. [Bug 1284316] Re: multiple StateNotFoundError failures in image 206
The QA team spoke about this at length. The take-home points are: 1) This is almost certainly a bug in the test cases, rather than in autopilot itself. The fact that the issue exists independant of the autopilot version seems to confirm this. Unless anyone objects, I'm going to remove the bug task against autopilot, and add one for the actual applications that are failing. 2) The root cause here is that the tests are written poorly. Specifically, they don't fail well. Many tests are writtenn such that they have a bunch of actions, and then assertions at the end of the test case. This is best practise for *unit* tests, but does not work well in an acceptance test where the test code and applicaiton code are completely asynchronous of each other. 3) Leo is slowly converting existing acceptance test suites to the page object pattern (http://code.google.com/p/selenium/wiki/PageObjects) which allows a greater level of abstraction, and should allow better failure messages. This process will likely help situations like this in the future. 4) balloons is going to blog about the page object conversion process, so hopefully it won't be just Leo doing the conversion, which should speed things up a bit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284316 Title: multiple StateNotFoundError failures in image 206 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autopilot/+bug/1284316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1270025] [NEW] graphviz package does not configure plugins
Public bug reported: After installing graphviz 2.36.0-0ubuntu1 in Trusty, I can no longer generate any PNG images with the 'dot' tool. The reason for this is that the package scripts do not configure the installed graphviz plugins: To reproduce: $ dot -Tpng my_file.dot my_file.png There is no layout engine support for dot Perhaps dot -c needs to be run (with installer's privileges) to register the plugins? $ sudo dot -c [sudo] password for thomi: $ dot -Tpng my_file.dot my_file.png # works now. [Bug 1260012] Re: app snapshot during test setup is being set to an empty list
Right, as discussed with jibel on IRC, I think the best thing to do in this case is to disable the snapshot testing. You're running in such an unusual environment that trying to fix this for your use case will take a significant amount of effort, and won't really help you much anyway. The best way to disable this is to override a method in AutopilotTestCase, like so: class MyTests(AutopilotTestCase): def _compare_system_with_app_snapshot(self): pass # Disable application snapshot comparison. I'm marking this as 'won't fix' in autopilot. If the solution above isn't acceptable to you, please let me know and we can try and work out something else. Cheers, ** Changed in: autopilot Status: Incomplete = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1260012 Title: app snapshot during test setup is being set to an empty list To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/autopilot/+bug/1260012/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1260012] Re: app snapshot during test setup is being set to an empty list
Ahh, I understand now :) The application snapshot is retrieved from the bamf daemon over dbus. I wonder if what's happening is that sometimes bamf isn't running in your test environment, and the act of getting the process snapshot start it, but it doesn't pick up on existing windows? Are you able to check if it's running? What environment are your tests running in? I assume it's a reasonably minimal X environment?
