[Bug 1943043] [NEW] Multiple CPUs stuck at 100% usage

2021-09-08 Thread Toby Milne
Public bug reported:

System boots fine, but after several hours, a random process will consume 100%
CPU (all kernel time), if the pi is left on longer, this will happen to more
cpus.
At the same time the interrupt count for "fe00b880.mailbox" drops dramatically.
Kernel stacktrace seems to point to an exception happening in scheduling:

[<0>] __switch_to+0xb8/0xe4
[<0>] function_trace+0x98/0x98
[<0>] do_translation_fault+0x64/0x9c
[<0>] do_mem_abort+0x4c/0xbc
[<0>] el1_abort+0x74/0xf4
[<0>] el1_sync_handler+0xac/0xcc
[<0>] el1_sync+0x7c/0x100
[<0>] schedule_tail+0x130/0x200
[<0>] ret_from_fork+0x4/0x3c

System is booting from NFS over the build in ethernet - so its going to
have a lot of NIC traffic.

[Bug 1889548] Re: ssh using gssapi will enforce FILE: credentials cache

2020-08-26 Thread Toby Blake
Hi there,

I'm afraid I haven't had much time to look properly into this recently,
but it remains on my list.

In the meantime, I've submitted an enhancement request upstream:

https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3203

Cheers
Toby

[Bug 1889548] Re: ssh using gssapi will enforce FILE: credentials cache

2020-08-10 Thread Toby Blake
Hi Christian,

Again, thanks for the above.

https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2775, in particular, looks
interesting, as it seems to be an attempt to bring the relevant ccache
patches up to date for version 8. e.g. we have been patching our SL
systems additionally for
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1199363.

I'll give this a try and report back. I'll hold off on reporting this
as a bug upstream until I've tried the patch(es).

Cheers
Toby

[Bug 1889548] Re: ssh using gssapi will enforce FILE: credentials cache

2020-08-06 Thread Toby Blake
Hi Christian,

Thanks for your reply (and for the links). I agree that a configurable
option coming from upstream would be the preferred option. I'll submit
a bug upstream accordingly and note the ID here.

I note there's a patch referenced in the openssh mailing list link,
unfortunately the link is a 404 - I'll see if I can track it down via
other means. On this topic, we've been using ssh on scientific linux
for a number of years now and that is patched to use the default ccache
name. It would be interesting to see if it's the same or similar as the
404 patch above.

Depending on the outcome of my upstream bug report, I'll see if I can
port any patches we use to the current ubuntu/upstream code base.

As to your final question re: regression - I don't think so, looking at
the code, but we are only now in the process of converting desktop
machines to ubuntu.

Cheers
Toby

[Bug 1889548] [NEW] ssh using gssapi will enforce FILE: credentials cache

2020-07-30 Thread Toby Blake
Public bug reported:

Hi,

ssh connections from a client with the following in ssh_config...

GSSAPIAuthentication yes
GSSAPIDelegateCredentials yes

... to an ubuntu 20.04 machine result in KRB5CCNAME being set to
'FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_[uid]_[random]' despite the following in
/etc/krb5.conf:

[libdefaults]
 ...
 default_ccache_name = KEYRING:persistent:%{uid}

This means that we cannot enforce a policy to use KEYRING ccaches across
our systems. Authentications which go via the pam stack (e.g. login to
the machine at the console or over ssh using a password) can be
configured to use a KEYRING ccache, via libpam-krb5 settings in
/etc/krb5.conf.

The FILE: setting seems to be hard-coded in the openssh code (auth-
krb5.c). It would be great if ssh(gssapi-with-mic) connections either
(a) set KRB5CCNAME to the default_ccache_name value, if set in
/etc/krb5.conf, or (b) didn't set KRB5CCNAME at all, so the system
default is used.

Many thanks

[Bug 1605813] Re: lock screen freezes while trying to wake from suspend

2020-04-25 Thread Toby Dimmick
I'm experiencing this again, now without AC power (I think that was a
red herring).

It seems to be if I:
- Reboot
- Close the lid (which suspends the machine)
- Reopen the list

I've also noticed that certain things still render. If I plug/unplug the
AC adapter, I will continue to see "battery charging/discharging"
notification popups.

Additionally, I had a log file open on the screen in VS Code. I changed
the contents of this file from ctrl-alt-f1 virtual console, then
switched back to my graphical session, and the displayed text in VS Code
updated!

But I still could not interact with anything on-screen, beyond moving
the mouse (no mouseover animations, nothing happens when clicking with
touchpad or mouse, no keyboard response).

Attached dmesg output - session suspend/wake is the last ~60 lines.

[Bug 1605813] Re: lock screen freezes while trying to wake from suspend

2020-04-25 Thread Toby Dimmick
I've just experienced this problem (or very similar) on a fresh install
of Xubuntu 20.04, on a Thinkpad x240.

On wake, I could move the mouse, and switch to a virtual console with
ctrl-alt-f1. The session would sometimes animate for a moment (e.g. a
notification about change in wifi), before freezing completely (except
for mouse).

I did not try killing/restarting any sessions.

This happened both when selecting sleep then pressing the power button
to wake, and when sleeping by closing the laptop lid and opening to
wake. The laptop was plugged into AC power the entire time.

The problem persisted across reboots, but stopped occurring (seemingly)
when I rebooted, then unplugged the laptop from AC power. I can now wake
successfully with the laptop both plugged and unplugged. Haven't tried
rebooting again since. I have no proprietary drivers installed.

I set the BIOS to no security and still have the same effect.

A USB device on thunderbolt bus should not need authorization? On
windows I never saw that and also in Linux with the USB 2 cable there
was no need to authorize.

The Thunderbolt controller is authorized though.

I'm not sure the correct place is under thunderbolt, it's seems more
like a hardware detection bug?

  If I unplug it and reconnect then it's not detected.

  If I force the thunderbolt controller on (boltctl power -t 1) then I
  can see the new USB host created in lsusb but the attached device is not
  added. No additional events are shown in dmesg.

  If I connect the device using another cable then it also doesn't work

  I have a USB-C cable only rated to USB 2.0 speed then the device is

[Bug 1830930] [NEW] USB 3 devices are not detected on thunderbolt 3

2019-05-29 Thread Toby Broom
Public bug reported:

I found a strange problem when trying to connect my Samsung T5 SSD.

If I connect it to the Thunderbolt port on my HP EliteDesk Mini G4, with
Thunderbolt at boot then the SSD is detected without issues.

I have a USB-C cable only rated to USB 2.0 speed then the device is
recognized without any issues.

Ridge 2C 2018] (rev 06)

[Bug 1428490] Re: AppArmor vs unix socket inside LXC containers

2016-11-02 Thread Toby Corkindale
Hi,
It's been 18 months since I reported this bug.
Sorry for the slow response to your question, but it did come about a year
after I raised the issue.

This was detected on Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS.
I am no longer able to tell you which kernel was being run at the time.

I suspect it's still likely to be a problem on the 14.4 LTS, however we
moved to 16.04 LTS this year and haven't heard any more complaints from
our team. We're also mostly using Docker now rather than LXC.

So... problem probably still exists, but I guess no-one really cares any
more.

[Bug 1229456] Re: Provide way to pass rootflags=degraded (for btrfs)

2016-07-18 Thread Toby Corkindale
Nearly three years on.. I'm sad to see that even in Ubuntu 16.04 that
this bug still exists.

It's quite annoying -- if you have mirrored btrfs drives, you'd really
hope that you could boot with a drive missing! (Without having to fiddle
around with the grub menu manually)

Graphics card is Intel® HD Graphics 520 (Skylake GT2)

built-in display is scaled to 1.25, external display is not scaled. When
I scale the external display and put it back to 1 then the window
decorations are drawn properly.

[Bug 1579771] [NEW] digikam: error while loading shared libraries: libswscale.so.2

2016-05-09 Thread Toby Bearden
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 15.04 to 15.10 to 16.04, when I try to run digikam
I get an error message 'digikam: error while loading shared libraries:
libswscale.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory'. There does not appear to be any package providing
libswscale.so.2 in xenial currently, making digikam broken. I tried
purging/reinstalling digikam to no effect. Installs fine, with no
dependency warnings.

were also the ones with huge ulimits configured.

[Bug 275645] Re: xcalc has order-of-operations problems

2015-08-02 Thread Toby Bartels
@jarnos

My hypothesis in the original post is that, when the calculator should
close two levels of implicit grouping, it closes only one. Regardless
of whether that is correct, there is a program, and it must follow some
algorithm, so there must be a rule, whether or not we know it. If the
rule was programmed deliberately, then it was by design.

Of course, whether by design or not, it is a flaw. @richwareham is just
wondering whether or not this is a flaw in the TI-30 or HP-10C
calculators that xcalc deliberately copies. In other words, was the bug
introduced in those historical calculators, or was it introduced in
xcalc? (And in the fomer case, then what should we do about it?)

This report is 7 years old, and I had forgotten ever making it, but the
bug is still there in my current system! (Although to be fair, I'm
still running Ubuntu 12.04.)

[Bug 990129] Re: Suspend/Resume hangs and fails - Ubuntu 12.04LTS

2014-07-16 Thread Toby
For those of you looking for a workaround until this bug gets a proper
fix...

The following has worked for me on Ubuntu 14.04 x64 running on an intel
based motherboard (Core i3 2nd gen) with Realtek onboard ethernet

Step 1: Open up a terminal and create a script file as follows:

~~~
gksudo gedit /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd
~~~

Step 2: copy and paste the following code into the file:

~~~
#!/bin/sh
# File: /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd.
TMPLIST=/tmp/ehci-dev-list
case ${1} in
hibernate|suspend)
;;
resume|thaw)
 chvt 1
 chvt 7
;;
esac
~~~

Step 3:
Give the script permission to run by typing the following in the terminal:

~~~
sudo chmod 755 /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd
~~~

[Bug 1284043] Re: udev renaming the same hardware network i/f to different name, breaks networking and firewall

2014-06-03 Thread Toby Corkindale
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1324558 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1324558

Are we definitely sure this is a duplicate?
I just mention because I'm seeing it on some servers currently, and biosdevname
reports the correct bios name for each device, even though the kernel name has
ended up at renameX.

For example:
# biosdevname -i rename3
p1p2

2014-05-14 Thread Toby Smithe
I don't have a printer, so I cannot test, but have you noticed this
behaviour when printing from other non-KDE applications using the Qt4
toolkit? MuseScore 1.2 / 1.3 uses Qt4, whereas MuseScore 2.0 will use
Qt5, so it could be something there.

[Bug 1284273] Re: Musescore mistakenly suspends pulseaudio because of missing gawk

2014-05-12 Thread Toby Smithe
Pàll, please calm down, and read [1] for information on bug importance
levels. At most this is of 'Medium' importance, but most likely, given
that there is a very simple work-around, this is of 'Low' importance. It
would also be appreciated if you stop modifying the report, since we are
aware that it exists, and every change just sends more e-mails. This bug
is also clearly not in PulseAudio, but in MuseScore's handling of it.
Previously, MuseScore used gawk to detect PulseAudio, but the dependency
was later changed to mawk (as that was better suited to Debian). This
check is now obsolete, and so new upload of MuseScore is in progress to
remove it.

[Bug 924687] Re: SoundFont appears to be corrupted

2014-03-04 Thread Toby Smithe
Any progress?

If you do have a fix, and are able to upload it somehow, do you think
you would also be able to look at bug 1268174?

Then I can organise a new upload, and fix all the bugs everywhere.

Cheers,

Toby

[Bug 868670] Re: package fluid-soundfont-gm (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: short read on buffer copy for fout in dpkg-deb tijdens `./usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2'

Try reinstalling the package -- this occurs because an error happens
during soundfont decompression. It should be fine next time.

[Bug 1282650] [NEW] Please sync musescore (universe) 1.3+dfsg-1 from unstable (main)

2014-02-20 Thread Toby Smithe
Public bug reported:

New upstream bugfix release:

musescore (1.3+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
+ see http://musescore.org/en/musescore-1.3
+ important bug fixes (Closes: #591908; LP: #1010457)
  * debian/control:
+ update long description for musescore-common
+ depend on mawk not gawk (Closes: #667845)
+ depend on individual libqtscript4 packages rather than the metapackage
  libqtscript4-qtbindings, since -opengl will not install on GNU/Hurd,
thereby
  making musescore uninstallable
  * debian/patches:
+ drop 20-fix-dso-linking.patch
+ add 25-build-hurd.patch: add rules to CMakeLists to build on GNU or
kFreeBSD

[Bug 1282244] Re: new upstream release

2014-02-20 Thread Toby Smithe
Also, NB, viennacl 1.5.1 doesn't need to be in multiverse (whereas 1.2.0
is) -- it builds against opencl-headers and ocl-icd-libopencl1, which
are both in universe.
