[Bug 564181] Re: [RV730] GPU soft reset infinite loop scrolling in firefox with compiz

2010-05-01 Thread Toby Meehan
Immediately after upgrading to Kubuntu 10.04 AMD64, the system would
enter this video loop symptom as described after login and as items were
added to the system tray. I removed several packages (hplip-gui and
kdebluetooth) that load into the system tray and it had no affect.

I booted into recovery mode as root and started X. It came up but was
notified that Nepomuk needed Virtuoso and that there were some missing
language files. I corrected the missing language files and installed
the virtuoso-server package, and then was able to login without the
system going into this loop mode for several hours.

When it did enter the video loop state again, it occurred immediately
after I removed a USB flash drive. It does not happen consistently as I
was unable to reproduce this. This parallels bugs 568605 and 565323. I
hope this provides some clue as to what's happening.

[Bug 178038] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-11-07 Thread Toby Meehan
Kubuntu 9.10 x64 all patches applied on AMD Phenom II x4 810. FireFox
3.5.4 crashed twice in the past two days with this error. As many
others here, the problems appears when Flash is in use -- once on
Facebook and another on Yahoo! -- and I close the tab...nspluginwrapper
closed unexpectedly.

Ironically, as I was using apport-kde to report the bug, it too has now
closed unexpectedly.

I'll wait a few weeks for a fix, but may try the x64 version on Adobe's
site after that.

[Bug 374717] Re: ntp in kubuntu jaunty does not configure

2009-07-22 Thread Toby Meehan
Using Kubuntu 9.04 with all patches to date are applied. Noticed when I
navigate to:
System -- System Settings -- Date Time

when I check the Set date and time automatically checkbox, click the
Apply button, and then exit, it does not retain the setting. If you
navigate away from Date Time in the System Settings panel (like
returning to Overview), it will retain the setting (stay checked) until
you exit System Settings.

I verified that only the ntpdate package is installed, not the ntp
package. I've not installed the ntp package yet as buntunub did above.

I'm using the PPA at http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu to
obtain a later KDE version (4.2.3). This PPA fixed a problem I had with
Kontact contacts.

[Bug 346238] Re: USB HD do not mount in 2.6.28-11 kernel

2009-06-06 Thread Toby Meehan
I've upgraded to KDE 4.2.3 to fix some Kontact problems, but it had no
affect on this issue.

I noticed that when I plug in a flash drive, KDE recognizes both the
flash drive and the external USB drive. I don't know if this is a
result of KDE 4.2.3 or not.

I'd like to use this external USB drive for backups. My intent was to
setup Keep to backup the directories where most of my data resides and
have it sync the data to folders on this external drive periodically.

However, if the drive isn't mounted at boot time, this isn't going to
work without manual intervention (create a USB event).

I'm uncertain if this is a KDE issue or a Kernel USB subsystem issue, or
somewhere in between. Any pointers on where to look/start would be
appreciated.

My issues don't seem to correspond to the fatal issues Henny
experienced, and I'm again uncertain if these are related. Should I
open a new bug report?

[Bug 311914] Re: Adobe Flash Player plugin on Firefox loss of audio

2009-06-06 Thread Toby Meehan
When playing other audio applications that do work, if I play an Adobe
Flash file, it cuts out all audio except for a very soft static sound
that's barely audible.

I've applied all available software updates. Problem still persists.
Adobe web site has 10,0,22,87 as the most current available version,
which is what's available and installed from the Ubuntu mirrors.

I suspect that it may use the pulse audio system that seems to have a
lot of issues.

2009-06-06 Thread Toby Meehan
Thanks, that is good news :)

Good news (for this bug). I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 i386 Alternate.
 This contains kernel 2.6-30-5.

All USB drives are recognized and mounted on boot :)
This being alpha-1 there are probably lots of other bugs to hunt down. I
already found one. System freezes as soon as it tries to access the
 internet (firefox or add program).

But my drives get mounted. Good start,

options:

1. Use the PPA created noted earlier in this thread by adding this line to
your software sources in your software package manager:

[Bug 367470] [NEW] Java 6 plugin install issue and not displaying video game controls correctly for runescape.com

2009-04-26 Thread Toby Meehan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sun-java6-plugin

When I attempted to install sun-java6-plugin (AMD64) using KPackageKit,
it failed noting that it could not display the license agreement. I ran
apt-get from the command line and agreed to the license agreement. All
went well from there. Probably something that needs to be addressed.

When we tried to run an online Java-based game (runescape.com), parts of
the game interface were not displaying properly, making the game
unplayable. This works fine on a Windows XP system also using Java6, so
pretty sure this is a bug of some kind. This game can be played in
limited mode without paying a fee. There's another similar online game
(fatalx.net) that is accessible at no cost (requires registration) that
has the same basic issue.

KDE desktop effects are disabled and not using proprietary video driver.
Fresh install of Kubuntu 9.04 AMD64 with all updates applied. ASUS
M4A78T-E motherboard with onboard ATI Radeon HD 3300 video.

I've also logged a bug (367053) regarding the X server crashing upon
logout, but I don't think that's related.

[Bug 346238] Re: USB HD do not mount in 2.6.28-11 kernel

2009-04-26 Thread Toby Meehan
Kubuntu 9.04 AMD64 final
Seagate FreeAgent USB drive formated ext3
ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard

If I leave the USB drive plugged in while system is booting, it does not
appear in Dolphin or in the system tray icon showing removable media.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable or cycling the power to the
USB drive fixes this situation.

While not recognized by Dolphin, I ran lsusb:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bc2:3001 Seagate RSS LLC

So it appears the motherboard see it, reports it to the kernel, but KDE
isn't picking it up.

Not sure this is the same bug or not.

[Bug 367053] [NEW] logout crashes X on Kubuntu 9.04 AMD64 ATI Radeon HD3300

2009-04-25 Thread Toby Meehan
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of Kubuntu 9.04 AMD64 on new hardware (ASUS M4A78T-E) with
onboard ATI Radeon HD 3300 video.

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

KDE Desktop effects are not enabled. Using the open source driver, not
the proprietary ATI driver.

lspci shows this for video controller:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 3300 Graphics

I logout of KDE 4. Expect to be prompted with KDE login screen. Instead,
screen goes to text mode with this text:

===
Starting K Display Manager: kdm
* Starting network connection manager NetworkManager
* Starting Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon avahi-daemon
* Starting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd
sane disabled: edit /etc/default/saned
* Starting anac(h)ronistic cron anacron
* Starting deferred execution scheduler atd
* Starting periodic command scheduler crond
* Checking battery state...
* Reloading Common Unix Printing System: cupsd
* Reloading system log daemon...
===

I wait about 5 minutes and nothing more. So use Alt-F1 to get command
prompt and look around. No KDE processes running. Find this in
/var/log/kdm.log:

[Bug 70778] Re: It crash at startup

2008-05-19 Thread Toby Meehan
Got virtually identical error on Kubuntu 8.04.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ amaya
(amaya_bin:7723): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_set_colormap: assertion
`!GTK_WIDGET_REALIZED (widget)' failed
The program 'amaya_bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 8376 error_code 8 request_code 158 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Locking assertion failure. Backtrace:
