[Bug 1462723] [NEW] lightdm quits at startup when beamer is connected

2015-06-07 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
Public bug reported:

I have a beamer. Since installation of kubuntu-15.04 I can't log into my
account if the beamer is connected. The kubuntu splash screen show up
alright, but takes a bit longer to complete, then I am dropped into a
black screen with a (movable) mouse pointer.

If I disconnect the beamer during startup, I can login.

[Bug 1373969] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep on Toshiba Satellite (M50D-A-100)

2014-09-26 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
One more very weird thing: when I use the keyboard to increase or
decrease screen brightness, the laptop goes to sleep. This didn't happen
before.

I checked "systemsettings/shortcuts and gestures" but this seems ok:
"decrease sceen brightness -> monitor brightness down"

[Bug 1373969] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep on Toshiba Satellite (M50D-A-100)

2014-09-26 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
I've got a bit more info.

As you can also see in the 'mainline kernel install log' attachment,
since this same update, I also have a graphics driver problem: no more
opengl/hardware accelleration, with all of the 3 driver options (fglrx,
fglrx-updates, xorg). Before I used fglrx-updates because this seemed to
work the best of the 3 (not good, but better than the rest).

After install of the mainline kernel, I tried switching to the xorg
option: still no opengl, but at least suspend/resume seems to work now!
When I resume the computer, I get a flash of random multicolored dots
and stripes, but I don't have to ctrl-alt-del anymore.

[Bug 1017852] [NEW] KMail filters very slow

2012-06-26 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
Public bug reported:

I just installed spamassassin. Now, when I start KMail, the UI is responsive
for about 3 seconds, then, I suppose, new messages are filtered, so the UI
blocks until spamassassin completes checking all mails. This sometimes takes up
to 1 hour to finish.
I believe the filtering code should run in it's own thread, seperate from the
KMail UI thread, so KMail can still be used if the filtering takes a long time.

[Bug 472480] Re: collection scan only finds small fraction of music files, different number on each scan

2009-11-04 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
Did some more digging around... I have 3 scenarios now.

1. Internal database
---
$ rm -dfr ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok ~/.kde/share/config/amarok*
$ amarok --debug > amarok.debug.1 2>&1
--> 2399 tracks
click "Rescan Collection"
--> 0 tracks
click "Rescan Collection"
--> 0 tracks

2. External database

$ rm -dfr ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok

mysql> create database amarok;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> GRANT ALL ON amarok.* TO 'amarok'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'amarok';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

$ amarok --debug > amarok.debug.2 2>&1
--> 747 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 668 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 811 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 1193 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 1141 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 2671 tracks

Run amarokcollectionscanner manually
--
~ amarokcollectionscanner -r ~/Music > amarok.scan
~ grep -c ' 8607 tracks

See attached files for output of "amarok --debug" and "amarokcollectionscanner".

[Bug 472480] [NEW] collection scan only finds small fraction of music files, different number on each scan

2009-11-03 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

I have a collection containing 8000+ files. Amarok only finds 10 to 20% of them.
Every time I click "Rescan Collection" I get a different number of tracks,
between 0 and 3000.
When I click "Rescan Collection" the progress bar starts somewhere between 19%
and 32%, sometimes goes up to 100%, sometimes doesn't increase.
It all looks very random and strange to me...

Please let me know what extra info needs to be attached for you guys to
make some sense of this...

[Bug 202459] Re: Apt performs some actions multiple times when once would suffice

2009-10-29 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
I think this is a reasonably serious bug. I know it has been bugging me for a
long time already :)
Example: I just removed 4 obsolete kernel packages, which should be a fairly
straightforward operation, but it took more than 5 minutes to complete. Running
update-grub with 4 kernels, 3 kernels, 2 kernels, ... It should have finished
in 30 seconds. that's a HUGE difference.

[Bug 362205] Re: plasma crashed with SIGSEGV in QByteArray::replace() (after changing screen resolution)

2009-05-21 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
1. After some experiments, I figured out that this only happens when the screen
resolution is changed to something smaller than 800x600.
2. I installed the release version of Ubuntu 9.04 recently (was running the
beta before) and here the problems seems to be fixed.

[Bug 282577] [NEW] autocomplete in grub shell doesn't work

2008-10-13 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

I wanted to reinstall grub to the MBR, so I enter grub shell:
>sudo grub

I select the root partition:
grub>root (hd0[TAB]

and I just get a real TAB instead of autocomplete.
This behaviour occurs in Konsole, gnome-terminal and on the virtual terminals
(CTRL+ALT+F1).

My system:
Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release:8.10
Last updated: 10 minutes ago.

[Bug 109672] Re: Windows 2000 hangs on start when grub is used

2008-08-21 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
I did a couple of trials. I was wondering what 'savedefault' was doing
in my Vista entry in menu.lst, it shouldn't be there so I removed it.
And to my surprise that seemed to solve the problem! So I rebooted once
more and added it again from the Grub gui at boot and got the error:
"Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS." Rebooted without
'savedefault' and it works. All very strange to me. What does
'savedefault' have to do with this behaviour? Way beyond my
understanding.

This is the entry after upgrade (that doesn't work):
# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux OS
# on /dev/sda3
title   Windows Vista/Longhorn (loader)
root(hd0,2)
makeactive
savedefault
chainloader +1

This is the one that works:
title   Windows Vista/Longhorn (loader)
root(hd0,2)
makeactive
chainloader +1

[Bug 109672] Re: Windows 2000 hangs on start when grub is used

2008-08-21 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
I just enabled hardy-proposed updates in Synaptic package manager and
installed suggested updates. Since then I can't boot into my Vista
system anymore I suspect there's a problem in the Grub version that got
installed (0.97-29ubuntu21) because I never had any boot problems
before. The menu.lst seems seems OK to me.

[Bug 199433] [NEW] Kubuntu 8.04-alpha1 installer crashes in partitioner stage

2008-03-07 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I choose manual partitioning, setup my disks, using /dev/sda3 as /usr/local
This partition was mounted at the time, so the iinstaller tells me it cant
unmount it because it is busy.
I unmount the partition manually, and when I click continue in the installer,
it crashes.
When I restarted the installer, all the field were filled in just like before,
which is great. Only participate in the package survey wasnt checked anymore
