[Bug 1658715] [NEW] swprintf return incorrect number of characters written when writing to NULL and 0 length

2017-01-23 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Expected behavior:

int test = 5;
wchat_t* buff = NULL;
size_t strlen = swprintf(buff ,0 , L"%d", test);

In this instance I would expect strlen = 1;

Actual behavior:

strlen =  18446744073709551615

Essentially yes. You can not can access to the menu items in the wine
app because the top bar grabs the focus of the mount pointer as it
thinks you close enough to the menu that you actually wanted the menu.

[Bug 786774] Re: Regression: Compiz Enhanced Zoom plugin jerky, slow and unresponsive

2011-05-29 Thread TommyBoy
it turns out, the choppy behavior is due to the mouse polling plugin,
use Compiz Settings Manager to set the mouse polling plugin to a smaller
time (10).

Requires a restart for the changes to take effect.

Still not perfect but is a stop gap. The screen is still slightly unresponsive
to mouse movements at times. Especially with firefox.

Confirmed that the xcalib works a treat, and you can still un-invert
individual windows using the compiz plugin.

I will run that command at start up from now on much thanks for that.

[Bug 774521] Re: xchat disappears when minisied to tray with unity running

2011-05-05 Thread TommyBoy
I think that removing the system tray all together would be a good
solution and have notifications coming from Unity along with the mail
icon and sound icon would be good. I use 32 widescreens for work and
find the system tray being fixed in the top right a real pain now. I
miss all my notifications. Unity seems a little inflexible at the
moment.

[Bug 774477] Re: Skype launches new app through Unity when on system tray

2011-05-02 Thread TommyBoy
I understand the nature of closed source software and the speed at which
Ubuntu progresses.

The problem with skype is only when you use the close button which
minimises it to the system tray. If you only minimise skype unity will
track it fine.

Maybe we can pressure Skype for an update, or a more flexible solution.

We are in the minority though.

2011-05-02 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

[Bug 595448] Re: Slow boot caused by SATA controller reset

2011-02-13 Thread TommyBoy
I have found the this problem is intermittent on my machine. However I
have managed to fix the problem by disconnecting the CD-ROM drive from
the IDE interface. This solves the hang on boot problem. When the CD is
connected 8 out of 10 times my system just hangs. This is a bad bug for
those affected.

[Bug 658191] [NEW] ubuntu 10.10 choosing open with changes default action on double click

2010-10-11 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

To reproduce:

I was in nautilus looking at my music files on my NAS i right clicked a
folder full of music and said open with Movie Player. Great all the
music was added into movie player and started to play. However now when
ever i click on any folders they get opened in movie player not
nautilus. This is a real inconvenience as i can no longer access my
folders by clicking on them. Other associations like this could really
begin to break things.

Expected:

Nautilus open up as normal or that the open with is a one time choice
and possibly a shortcut is added into the context menu for next time.

2010-09-06 Thread TommyBoy
Seems they can not reproduce so it does not exist :D also you have to
make a new bug report again and again for people to take notice. This is
the first first I have been told to recreate a bug report again but
their rules!

Try programming with this issue going on. Lol debugging 1000's lines of
corrupted copypaste code. Oh what fun.

[Bug 577427] [NEW] Regression: Unable to turn negative on at all using compiz 10.04

2010-05-08 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

The latest round of updates has completely stopped me from turning the
negative effect of compiz on. This seems linked to the exclude field in
the compiz config setting manager under the negative plug-in. If i
remote the Type=Desktop then it works again but does invert the
background.

Historically the background has not been inverted but the rest of the
menus and windows have. As it stands when trying to invert anything with
the default setting does nothing. Interestingly if you hover over a
shortcut but the system menu eg firefox and then invert you can see the
tooltip change to inverted.

I have played around with setting and have found that setting
type=Desktop again in the compiz manager then makes it behave as
expected inverting everything but the background.

Again this is an annoying but as i used negative all the time I can live
with the background being inverted but it does make ubuntu look very
cold and uninviting.

[Bug 577427] Re: Regression: Unable to turn negative on at all using compiz 10.04

2010-05-08 Thread TommyBoy
Temporary Fix add this line to your excludes setting under the compiz
manager:

(type=Desktop) | type=Desktop

Now you can get inverted windows straight after but and you do not have
to logout and login again.

As a side note when you try to add setting to the excludes box you can
capture the windows name for example but when you click okay the setting
does not translate back to the main negative settings window. You get
type= instread of type=Desktop. Desktop is being lost somewhere and not
copied across.

[Bug 574579] [NEW] Regressuin: Unable to turn negative on using Super + M, gives mail menu instead

2010-05-03 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

New Lucid feature or regression for me it is a regression as it has
changes the default behaviou i have been used for a long time.

Super + M with compiz turned on inverted the whole screen. Great for me
as white on black is more readable.

How Super + M gives us the mail menu from the notification area. Only
way to solve this is to reconfigure compiz to look for a new key
combination.

[Bug 574592] [NEW] Regression: Unable to invert desktop on system load using (Super+M) if you have not changed focus to the desktop by clicking with the mouse

2010-05-03 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

After Desktop loads you can not put the system into inverted colour mode
using compiz you have to change the focus to the desktop by clicking the
mouse. This has historically worked and have recently broken in Lucid.

Reproduce by pressing the invert key combination (see [Bug 574579])
after you have login in without using the mouse and you will be unable
to turn the negative plugin on. This is usually seen when a system menu
has focus and I guess this is the problem that a menu has been left with
focus after load but i am not sure which one. Maybe the new mail menu
again.

Clicking on the desktop with the mouse then allows you to use Super+M or
whatever you config to turn on the negative plugin.

Sorry have been a bit slow on the updating of my bug.

been tested of a new folder that is not already on the bookmarks list.

[Bug 549573] Re: unable to add bookmarks lucid

2010-04-23 Thread TommyBoy
That works but for me it is not the expect behaviour for adding a
bookmark. This does not conform to the original behaviour of the
bookmark feature and also not with other operating systems and the way
they work. This may be considered a bug, Depends on the direction you
want to go. But for me and I am sure others this is not the expected
behaviour.

[Bug 535579] Re: Lucid, unable to mount locationfailed to recieve share list from server

2010-04-16 Thread TommyBoy
I am getting this also but not sure if it is symptomatic of having
installed Lucid a long time ago and this is a historic problem that has
filtered through on updates.

Steps to reproduce:

Places-Network-Windows Networks

See the attached image

I am unsure if there is any other information I can give nautilus now
when run from the terminal detaches its error output.

This was solved and I more onto a new problem. I ran firestarter and
found my machine was blocking UDP traffic related to Samba. I allowed
connection from and it then began to read shares on my network.

I got messages in the syslog like:

Apr 16 15:01:54 ubuntu10 kernel: [ 9812.566431] Inbound IN=eth0 OUT=

I have had problem with cups as well when trying to setup and network
printer is this related to some security issue?

Now i get the problem that I sometimes get the correct result returned on the
network share list and sometimes not about one time in 5 I get the correct
results.

[Bug 563688] [NEW] unable to copy exchage based contact direct to ubuntu one, other error and locked dialougs

2010-04-15 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

i have tried to copy my works exchange global contact list to Ubuntu one
couch db. i got a lot of other errors during this copy process. some
contacts already existed in Ubuntu one and i got hundreds on other
errors message boxes and an associated dialouge to add or merge or
cancel. this was very annoying as they all popped up together on the
screen. you then had to click the other error message box before you
could interact with the merge dialogue. this meant that i had to guess
which of the 50 messages was the right one working through them one by
one, lots of clicking. this was resolved by copying the exchange contact
to my local machine and them adding them to ubuntu one which worked as
expected. with the merge dialogues appearing as you would expect.

[Bug 550124] [NEW] Overlay causing excessive cpu usage on Xorg process using ATI cards

2010-03-28 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi I have an ATI Radeon 2600 HD.

I am finding when ever I am using overlay with the ATI card that I can
getting drastic system slowdowns. This can be seen using top on my
system.

A good example of this slowdown can be seen using gtk-recordmydesktop.
The preview panel that appears in that app will slow the system down and
xorg gets over active at that point and then you will not realy be able
to make a recording as the cpu is maxed out.

[Bug 550141] [NEW] screen flickers/shimmers for half a second from side to side ATI Radeon 2600 HD

2010-03-28 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This can be reproduced using compiz. Please enable the water effect and
put in onto a rain delay of 500 (shift+F9). In about 10 seconds you
should see the screen dancing around and flickering. Hard to describe.
Can't make screen cast as I also have an xorg slowdown issue.

Compiz is just a method to get this bug to show up again and again. This
is also happening when I am using notifications launching wine and other
general use of the desktop.

Also I am hearing a clicking sound from the screen and sometimes getting
the message that the screen source disappeared and just reconnected also
the screen is going blank sometimes.

[Bug 542547] Re: Termial and Gnome Panel need to be excluded on the compiz negative plugin to allow for invert on default theme

2010-03-28 Thread TommyBoy
The Guys at Ubuntu have added the terminal the the list of apps that are
not inverted, so I consider this as fixed. This was not a compiz bug
wrongly assigned really but I was not sure where to assign it.

** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid = Fix Committed

** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu)
Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released
