[Bug 1884432] Re: Kate does not show in applications
I have found how to reproduce the bug! PLEASE, REPAIR IT. 1) file ~/.local/share/applications/org.kde.kate.desktop contains blocks in the following order and everything works as it should (Kate is searchable in the dash and can be pinned to the dash bar): [Desktop Entry] ... [Desktop Action Session ...] ... 2) open Kate, new session 3) click menubar Session > Save session (choose name, save) 4) the file ~/.local/share/applications/org.kde.kate.desktop rewrites itself (as it should) but contains blocks in a wrong order! [Desktop Action Session ...] ... [Desktop Action Session ...] ... [Desktop Entry] ... 5) suddenly, kate icon moves to the bottom on the dash bar, when clicked by the right mouse button, you can no longer pin it nor find it among the dash applications 6) you have to manually open ~/.local/share/applications/org.kde.kate.desktop and move the [Desktop Entry] block to the beginning of the file -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1884432 Title: Kate does not show in applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kate/+bug/1884432/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So it seems that the org.kde.kate.desktop file was wrong, the [Desktop Entry] block was generated at the end of the file instead at the top. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1884432 Title: Kate does not show in applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kate/+bug/1884432/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1884432] [NEW] Kate does not show in applications
Public bug reported: There are several issues with 'Kate' on my clean install of Ubuntu 20.04 When I installed Kate from Snap, it could not recognize my sessions (which I copied from my old disk to ~/.local/share/kate/sessions and I also moved the .desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications) but besides that, the application ran as normal. And it was also in the applications dash (important for later). I thought it was missing some dependencies, so I checked it in Synaptics package manager. But 'kate' appeared uninstalled. I selected it for installation and then I could see two instances in the applications! One of them could see my sessions, the other one no. So I uninstalled it again from both Synaptics and from Snap. And installed it again only with Synaptics. Now, Kate is working with my sessions but - it does NOT appear in the applications dash although it had previously two instances there (yes, I have the proper WMClass set up, and I have tried 'sudo update-desktop-database' and I have tried to move the application entry to /usr/share/applications) - it can be executed from terminal and also from Alt-F2 as 'kate' - it cannot be, however, added to favorites - its icon in the dash cannot be clicked by the middle mouse button to open a new instance - every new instance started with either a new terminal or Alt-F2 appears as a new icon in dash, instead of adding a dot, as e.g. Firefox does or even Kate did on 16.04 - although it is installed in Synaptics, it does not appear as installed in Snap See the attached screenshots. [Bug 1774957] Re: Network icons in status menu disappearing
I have the same problem. On a newly upgraded Ubuntu 18.04 with Gnome 3.28, the system menu on the right in the top panel is missing entries, if booted with an ethernet connection. If booted without ethernet (with or without wifi) all the entries are there. Replicable: yes How to: Boot (or restart Gnome by Alt-F2, r, Enter) with the ethernet cable connected - icons are missing (see screenshot 1). Workaround: Boot (or restart Gnome by Alt-F2, r, Enter) with the ethernet cable disconnected - all the icons are there (see screenshot 2). Then connect the ethernet cable (see screenshot 3). This workaround is, however, not a permanent solution... ** Attachment added: "screenshot1.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1774957/+attachment/5160286/+files/screenshot1.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774957 Title: Network icons in status menu disappearing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1774957/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1514547] Re: Units conversion is not visible after gnome-calculator update
I did not change theme nor font. In the guest account, the calculator works as before - annoying resizing and conversion is visible. I realised that for some units (e.g. angles) the roll-down menu is slimmer than for others (e.g. currency), so I tried changing the units. Suddenly, the conversion result was visible. Even when I changed back to currency - the window resized! But after closing and reopening the calculator the conversion for currencies popped up and the results were hidden once again. In addition to that, when I close the calculator with angle units selected, then reopen it, select currency and start typing numbers, the deg to rad conversion was still visible but inactive and Euro to Dollar was not (see the printscreen). I don't want to change units to angle and back to currency every time... [Bug 1513402] [NEW] Touchpad and keybord not responding after random time of using the touchpad
Public bug reported: Hi, I have Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS (64-bit) on HP Pavilion g6. When I use the built-in touchpad, after a random time the touchpad stops responding. The keyboard stops working as well. The only thing that would work is the USB mouse, but only when it is plugged in the USB 3.0 port. In other words, it seems to disable all USB 2.0 as well. So I use the mouse to asleep the machine and after the wake-up all is fine, until I use the touchpad again. The power cord in or out has no effect on it. I observe this bug since 12.04. Could anyone help? Thanks. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: freeze keyboard touchpad -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1513402 Title: Touchpad and keybord not responding after random time of using the touchpad To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1513402/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 988337] Re: two chromium icons on the launcher
It happened to me too and I found a solution: 1) Open /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop with sudo privileges in some editor. 2) Open Chromium or Chrome browser. Does not matter, if it shows in a different icon or not. 3) Open a terminal and type: xprop | grep WM_CLASS 4) Your mouse pointer will change into a cross. With this cross click anywhere inside the Chrome/ium window. Something like this will show up in the terminal: WM_CLASS(STRING) = Google-chrome-stable, Google-chrome-stable 5) In the editor, in which you opened the *.desktop file, write on the second line (after the [Desktop Entry]): StartupWMClass=Google-chrome-stable or StartupWMClass=whatever was in the terminal output (in either of the quotes). 6)Save the file and the result should be seen immediately. [Bug 1168467] Re: phy0 - rt2800pci_mcu_status: Error AND [drm:gen6_sanitize_pm] *ERROR*
Hi, @Robert: I wanted to write the same thing, because this topic is for two errors 1) rt2800pci caused by wireless driver 2) drm caused by uptading to 3.2.0-40 kernel. You didn't specify which one of these you were talking about. @chenzero: Thanks for pointing out the 3.3.6 kernel, but this caused my virtualbox to crush on startup. @Antonios: The biggest thanks goes to you because the solution you suggested not only removed the drm error but the rt2800pci error as well !! I will mark this topic as solved. The think that did it is here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack I ran the first terminal command and it works fine. Thanks to all. Hi, excelent! The amd64 seems to be working, I don't have the drm error (see here). HOWEVER the rt2800 is still on (see below). As for the freezing of keyboard and touchpad, I couldn't reproduce it voluntarily in the past, and it didn't occur yet. Thanks for any other good advices. V. P.S. [Bug 1168467] Re: phy0 - rt2800pci_mcu_status: Error AND [drm:gen6_sanitize_pm] *ERROR*
Hi, I am aware of the fact that it is a driver issue. I had just no luck with reparing it - I hoped the updates will eventually do but no luck there either :-) I can access both wireless and wired network with no problem. The thing that is bothering me is that on boot or wake-up, the wifi takes ages to load (once it connects it's OK) and sometimes it don't (I supend and wake again and it works). This happens more frequently when I am on battery power or when I disconnect a suspended laptop from power and wake it on battery only.
