[Bug 1598312] Re: Cannot scale AMD Turion CPU frequency. It runs on lowest 800MHz

2018-02-09 Thread WSmart
Thanks for all the work everyone put into developing this, Vladimir in
particular. The acpi=noirq work around is working here. I wanted to
add, along with the scaling and the reboot fail issues, I also was not
able to run ubiquity. The installer would crash giving me
freedesktop.org errors. I installed xfce4-power-manger to the live
environment and was able to use ubiquity and install the system from
there, booting to the 800mhz scaling limit.

Thanks all.

[Bug 543875] Re: unable to find a medium containing a live file system

2012-04-12 Thread WSmart
@Justic   Thanks for the post.

I had this issue trying to boot a Kubuntu 11.10 LiveCD on an old FlexATX
computer which only has one IDE interface. Changing the jumpers on the
CD to master and the hard drive to slave did resolve the issue. Oh
look, there's Kubuntu now!

I also tried a bunch of other permutations of jumpers and cables, trying
to keep the hard drive as master. Somewhere I read that you don't want
a hard drive running with an optical on an IDE. But I know I've done it
before without apparent issue. Maybe that was with the 40 pin cables.
I finally gave up on that though. I guess I have to get a USB optical
drive if I want my hard drive as master.

Thanks all.

Be real, be sober.

[Bug 341214] Re: Panel object, system monitor, set to fulll width of panel, will reset aftter every restart to half the panel width.

2010-07-15 Thread WSmart
Yes, I still get this; still have to expand my CPU graph to the 1000
setting, it still resets to about 500 after every reboot, using Lucid
with the proposed updates turned on. I haven't tried Maverick.

I figured it would be an easy nip and tuck for somebody. I don't think
it's a huge deal, of course. I use a CRT here and recently tried using
an LCD. This graph applet jolted with each update. Maybe I don't have
the settings right, but if it does that on all LCD's, I could see this
being a dead applet since CRT's are all but dead, or it might need some
additional fine tuning.

@W_D Really enjoyed hearing somebody else was using this too.
Feedback is fundamental. I'm trying to promote a type of fund raising
for open source projects, such as Ubuntu of course, where you get a
share ratio when you contribute cash or other resources to the project.
It's a way of giving context to the contribution -so it's not a shot in
the dark- and also a way to give credit to the contributor. I started
thinking about this from my experience with bit torrent. Figured you
might find that interesting.

Be real, be sober.

[Bug 279004] Re: Black screen booting on Kubuntu 8.10 Beta Live CD

2010-04-04 Thread WSmart
For me the problem seems to be a DVI to VGA issue, part of it.

I have an older card with both vga and DVI, and even though I can boot
fine though the vga(to a CRT), I have to use the F4 safe graphics if I
boot through a DVI to VGA adapter.

[Bug 279004] Re: Black screen booting on Kubuntu 8.10 Beta Live CD

2010-03-07 Thread WSmart
I'm having this issue on an HD3850 running an Ubuntu 9.10 liveCD, blank
screen. Mouse cursor with rolling circle shows up, then nothing. My
9.10 hard drive install does the same thing. I can get into a terminal
if I move quick enough-otherwise the interface freezes.

Booting the liveCD in safe graphics mode does get me to desktop with the
liveCD as well.

Thanks ALL!

Thanks for the patience. I didn't have Jaunty installed.

2009-03-23 Thread WSmart
It's totally happening every time.

Just install the system monitor object with default CPU on a clean panel
and expand system monitor width to the maximum pixels in the object
preferences, then reboot and the object is now only about half the
maximum. It always resets.

I'm using 8.10 with proposed updates. I've seen this since 7.10.

I have some system/hardware issues that prevent from me checking this
another user account.

Right on Pedro. Thanks all.

[Bug 341214] [NEW] Panel object, system monitor, set to fulll width of panel, will reset aftter every restart to half the panel width.

2009-03-11 Thread WSmart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

This is in regards to a panel object, one of the objects you can add to
the panels.

The system monitor panel object width is reset during restarts if it is
set longer then half the panel/scrreen width. I have it set to full
screen. I like the detail that if offers compared to the graph in the
system monitor program. But I don't like that it resets after every
restart. I call this a bug because it's not expected behavior.

Thanks! Bill

[Bug 301189] Re: Vuze's updater will not upgrade to 4.0.0.4

2009-02-14 Thread WSmart
Azureus updates via torrent files. Not sure how torrents work with the
Ubuntu package manager. I guess there's deb torrent for that, now; but
running two torrent clients.not me like, my bad(: . I prefer to get
my everything via torrent, so a direct download via source list would
not be an ideal solution. There might be other issues related to the
torrent based updates, too.

And aren't there issues with installing programs outside of the package
management system? I think I remember a recommendation to uninstall
before a distro upgrade...maybe that was Alberto Milone's Envy graphics
driver program.

Just adding a .deb package to the repository manually would be a problem?
Azureus would update itself normally but the repo, I guess, would not reflect
any of the changes.Seems like that would be the easiest solution, but maybe
that's full circle back to where we started and why doesn't the repo package
update properly. If Azureus simply provided a .deb at their website and you
added that manually to the package manger, would that also fail to update I
wonder. If I had to add each new update manually, I wouldn't really care. Not
a huge deal. That way I could still download via torrent and the repo would
reflect the versions correctly.

Thanks for noodling on this Aaron.

[Bug 194029] Re: 2.6.24-8 Introduces Network Issue

2008-07-07 Thread WSmart
I just installed Xubuntu Hardy and I was running Synergy for a period
without a problem, Ubuntu Gutsy as server. Suddenly it's unusable.
Might be a coincidence, but this happened right after I first tried to
copy text from a browser. That was the first time I tried to use the
clipboard. I had to fight to get it to copy and then fight to get it to
paste using ctrl v-no paste in the context, and it finally pasted, a
bunch of Chinese picture script. I was able to copy the text correctly,
after using the sudo command, but it's touch and go with anything I copy
from the web, ie ¹º¼1ö0®¯° ,

Also noticed that the more I move the mouse around, the worse the
problem got, as if the network were getting jammed.

[Bug 198077] Re: Spreadsheet Save times grow to over double after an hour or so of being open

2008-03-29 Thread WSmart

No.

I started trying to create an example file after I got notice on your
post. Major V8 moment. I got tired when I was working on this and
didn't think, past that I can't post the original, that I could try and
create an example file. This is a great tool for evaluating the
problem. It's a pain because this is on my main system and it takes a
couple hours for it to develop after I make changes. Seems like I've
had restart every couple hours, for various reasons, Murphy's Law, so I
feel like after three days, I have like twenty minutes of work done.

The original continues to do this, exactly the same way, every time.
Should be able to create a test file to attach. I'm following this
post closely. I will continue to work on this, and I will post if it
resolves via updates or whatever.

Thanks!

[Bug 198077] [NEW] Spreadsheet Save times grow to over double after an hour or so of being open

2008-03-03 Thread WSmart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have a large spreadsheet that takes 90 seconds to open on a 7.10 Ubuntu
1750mhz system and takes 75 seconds to save, with nothing else running. But
after about an hour, the save times start to increase. They grow, and grow,
and finally the save times are almost four minutes, with nothing else running.
This happens everytime.

If I close the file and reopen, it goes back to the fast save times.

I've worked to try and figure out what the problem is, but I don't see
any User issues. This should be a very easy issue to reproduce, if you
have a large Open Office file that takes a long time to save. I bet
it's an easy problem to solve to, once it's identified.

Thanks!

Edit: probably takes over two hours before the save times stablilize,
and the times grow slowly, not all at once.
