[Bug 1737750] Re: nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 304.137-0ubuntu2 ADT test failure with linux 4.15.0-1.2 [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’]

2018-08-08 Thread wally
As others report, this has now happened with two attempted updates to kernel
4.15.
In one case the updater reported errors as it tried to load the update but then
improperly ignored the errors and the update - known to be wrong - was then
finalized and grub was updated to use the known wrong files.
Why put out the error notification if it is then ignored?

[Bug 1754458] Re: nm-applet symbol not displayed on mate (18.04)

2018-04-27 Thread Wally
Same problem here. I had nm-applet icon showing up just fine on 17.04.
After upgrading to 17.10 it disappeared, but I was able to get it back
by using MATE Tweak to revert to a saved panel layout. Now, after
upgrading to 18.04, it disappeared again. I am still able to recover it
by reverting to a saved panel layout, but now I have to do it every
single time I restart my computer.

If I add the Indicator Applet, I can get *a* network icon to show up,
but it isn't the same as nm-applet, as it lacks a lock icon when using a
VPN (and likely other differences).

If I run sudo nm-applet, I get similar error messages to the ones
already posted, though the icon does display while I have the terminal
open and the command running.

Here's my error message when running sudo nm-applet (running it without
sudo generates no error, but also doesn't bring back the icon):

(nm-applet:2874): Gtk-WARNING **: 09:19:30.075: Can't set a parent on

[Bug 1583832] [NEW] Some DVDs won't be recognized

2016-05-19 Thread Wally
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I recently started experiencing problems opening *some* DVDs. Take, for
instance, some of the recent DVDs that I have tried to open, such as
Buffy, Angel, and Boy Meets World, and Burn Notice season sets. These
are all legit, region 1 releases and in flawless condition. Importantly,
90-95% of these discs still do open and play just fine. Only some of
them do not. For example, all of Boy Meets World Season 1 opened, as did
discs 1 and 2 of Season 2, but Season 2 Disc 3 will not. I took it from
one computer to another and had the same problem there. The type of
disc, region, and whether CSS is present is static across both affected
and un-affected discs. I can come up with no explanation for why most
discs are loading and a select few are not.

Some additional information to hopefully help narrow down the problem
and eliminate some likely causes:

- I am using Ubuntu 16.04
- I have installed the restricted formats / libdvdcss. About 90-95% of DVDs
play with no trouble.
- I am using libdvdcss 1.4.0.
- I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04.
- The exact same discs run fine using the same hardware via Ubuntu 14.04.
- I have purged and re-installed restricted formats / libdvdcss, but continue
getting the same problems for the affected discs.
- This affects multiple computers (different makes and models) and DVD drives
(ditto), so it's not a hardware issue.
- I have tried deleting /.dvdcss folder and rebooting, but that solves nothing.
- The volume is loading as an unknown format according to Ubuntu's "Disks"
application, so it is recognizing that a disc is present (and it correctly
reads the size of the data on the disc), but can't recognize the file structure.
- Programs that can load directly from a device rather than relying on Ubuntu's
folders or disc mapping can read the discs just fine. VLC Media Player, for
example, can play the discs if I point it to the disc device, even though the
disc itself isn't being recognized by Ubuntu.
- The Boy Meets World discs in my example are not encrypted, but Bolt, for
example, is encrypted and reads just fine, so it is not an encryption problem.
- Any program that relies on selecting a disc or folder rather than a device
will not be able to see the disc, unfortunately. Only programs that can be
directed at a device in general can get around this program.

I'm happy to provide additional information and run tests/commands as
needed.

Thanks!

[Bug 1418796] [NEW] fix mountall: Evnet failed with two style code

2015-02-05 Thread wally
Public bug reported:

there are two fix for mountall: Event failed under

In mounted-proc, using following code:
if [ -e ${MOUNTPOINT}/slabinfo ]; then
chmod 0400 ${MOUNTPOINT}/slabinfo

and mounted-debugfs use this:
chmod 0700 ${MOUNTPOINT} || true

[Bug 1067632] [NEW] freerdp 1.0.1 in 12.04, numlock led not sync.

2012-10-17 Thread wally
Public bug reported:

Good day, every one:
I recently use freerdp to connect my windows server 2008 sp1 and WES, and found
Numlock led won`t sync if I do these steps:

1. check Numlock is on.
2. connect by freerdp.
3. set Numlock off and then select disconnect(not Log off) to quit rdp
session.
4. OK, now my Numlock is off now, and then set Numlock on again.
5. reconnect to rdp session we quit before, Numlock status is on but the
function is just act like Numlock is off.

also test in WIN7 sp1 and WIN7 sp1 (VDI mode in a WIN server 2008 sp1).
WIN7 sp1 have this issue but VDI mode has not, I wonder there`s some magic
protocol hiding there.

also tried the newest version on freerdp website, still the same issue, below
is my git version:
bigdick@wally-12:/etc/ld.so.conf.d$ xfreerdp --version
This is FreeRDP version 1.1.0 (git 1.0.1-1248-g1c85)

[Bug 1024630] [NEW] 12.04 using xfce + lxdm, rapid login will lose xfce4-notifyd pid

2012-07-14 Thread wally
Public bug reported:

Hi, all:
I am using xfce + lxdm(autologin), I need a function is re-login the X, but
lxdm logout without restart X, so I made a script:
#!/bin/bash
sudo service lxdm restart

this script can restart X, and autologin again, but when I test this
script, it some times show this message:
Unable to start notification daemon
Another notification xndaemon is already running

it seems xfce4-notifyd is missing on ps aux(so you can not know it`s pid
now, but it sure is running), and if use command:
notify-send some word
you can once again find the xfce4-notifyd`s pid by ps aux | grep
xfce4-notifyd.

is it a bug of 12.04? since 10.04 not using xfce4-notifyd I won`t
get this problem on 10.04.

  SRU JUSTIFICATION:
This is a minor patch that affects only the gnome-nettool application, and
only its Ping tab. Regression potential is minimal to null, given that the
new matching strings should catch both the old and new cases; so a new
package taken on an older release (or a new release that reverts ping's
behaviour in outputted data) should still work.

  TEST CASES:
  - Open gnome-nettool, switch to the Ping tab.
  - Try to ping the local machine: enter 127.0.0.1 in the address combo
 box.
  - Click the Ping button.

On a successful test, ping requests should pass and return values and draw
 bar graphs for results.
On a failed test, ping requests should not move, statistics remain not
 updated.

Slighty different problem from the previous bug reports:
Gnome-nettools does not crash, but no results are displayed.
If ran from a terminal, here it is the output (I removed a bunch of
 duplicated Gtk-CRITICAL errors) :

[Bug 636311] Re: Keyboard special keys interfere with mouse

2010-10-18 Thread Wally Arms
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 5000, same problem. Media keys -
play/pause, for example - act like a left mouse click and the mouse will
no longer function. Quickest fix is pulling the usb that drives the
keyboard and mouse and re-inserting. No luck with the aubergine package
fix, maybe I didn't install correctly. Any idea when a fix will be
provided in the updates?

2010-10-18 Thread Wally Arms
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 359315 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359315

Network Tools worked perfectly, including ping, in 9.04. This is not a
sporadic issue as described in Bug #359315. I am unable to ping any
address from withing Network Tools in 10.10. No problem pinging from
within a terminal window.

This how to with open-vm-tools worked flawlessly btw, as a workaround
while we are waiting for official packages. I substituted the latest

works pretty much word-for-word. It is for VM-fusion, but worked under

Same issue here, cannot upgrade a machine without an installed desktop
meta-package. You can workaround by using apt-cdrom then doing the
network upgrade, but it would be nice to upgrade via the cd only then
get the updates off the net that were needed.

Wally, you can test it using the Desktop Live CD just as easily.

Once the desktop has started open a terminal and type the commands
listed:

Applications Accessories Terminal

$ wget
http://intuitivenipple.net/dev/ubuntu/gutsy/network-manager-gnome_0.6.5-0ubuntu11_amd64.deb
$ sudo killall nm-applet
$ sudo dpkg -i network-manager-gnome_0.6.5-0ubuntu11_amd64.deb
$ nm-applet

If you don't have a network connection at that point then download the
.deb first from another OS and save it to a location that Ubuntu LiveCD
will have access to (an NTFS or FAT32 drive is fine - Gutsy can mount
and access NTFS). Then use the full path to the file in the 'sudo dpkg
-i ...' command.

aot2002: I've just looked at your logs and the last time I see the
SIGSEGV is:

Oct 29 08:15:10 localhost kernel: [ 103.908729] nm-applet[6066]:
segfault at ac043cc0

After that I see:

Oct 29 08:21:06 sudo: USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/killall nm-applet
Oct 29 08:21:45 sudo: USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/nm-applet
Oct 29 08:21:53 sudo: USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/nm-applet

which indicates you're running nm-applet as root. This is incorrect. nm-
applet should be run as a regular user application without using sudo:

$ nm-applet

If the errors in your earlier report were reported after starting nm-
applet as root, the dbus-related errors would be expected. Please kill
any running instance of nm-applet and start it without sudo and see how
it goes.

2 weeks) NetworkManager (using knetworkmanager front end, I'm on
kubuntu) fails to connect.

NetworkManager displays all available networks as expected and I believe
it associates correctly too (see below), however it times out during the
Configuring IP stage.

Running ps aux during this 30 or so second hanging period I can see
wpa_supplicant is running and a copy of dhclient. If I run dhclient
eth1 myself manually at this point, I get an IP assigned to myself and
everything works fine (apart from NetworkManager who's still convinced
I'm not connected. This is why I assume the association works
correctly). knetworkmanager then proceeds to prompt for a new WEP key.

If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know.

Also worth mentioning, connecting via wired works absolutely fine. No
problems at all.

[Bug 92299] Re: network-manager breaks static configuration

2007-04-12 Thread wally
quoteMe too!!!

this is a fresh Festy install (Beta). After installation, I had a working DHCP
lease.
I wanted a static adres, so I use network-manager to alter the settings.
That did not work!!

I removed network-manager, things did not get any better.

Whe I switch eth0 back to dhcp, that does not work anymore also.

I do not regard myself a novice, but I'm completly lost./quote

Yup, exactly the same here. Everything broke since having tried setting
a static addr.

[Bug 95618] Cannot apply changes to dual head settings as administrator

2007-04-07 Thread wally
Public bug reported:

I'm afraid I can't give much detail on it (if someone tells me how I'd
love to be more specific!). In the System Settings (Kubuntu's
slightly modified KDE Control Centre I believe) I tried to configure a
second monitor (dual-head i810 card), I am informed that administrative
rights are required and then various (what I assume to be) software bugs
take hold. The Apply, OK and Cancel buttons are permanently greyed out
and if I set the second monitor up the slide bar on the first tab for
the resolution jams at 640x480.

Thanks.

[Bug 96886] Re: p4-clockmod NOT loaded for Inspiron 1150 Laptop

2007-03-31 Thread wally
Hope I've got this right :)

The output from lsmod lists p4-clockmod, that's because I've temporarily
added it to /etc/modules. I'm more than happy to reboot without that
hack so you can see what's loaded normall?

[Bug 96886] p4-clockmod NOT loaded for Inspiron 1150 Laptop

2007-03-27 Thread wally
Public bug reported:

I've noticed a similar bug reported for another laptop, the reason for
the module not being loaded there was (I quote):

p4-clockmod introduces unacceptable degrees of latency under normal
desktop conditions, and adds little power saving since it has no ability
to alter voltage. As a result, we deliberately don't autoload it.

Loading p4-clockmod using the ondemand governer increases battery life
on the Inspiron 1150 atleast 2 fold (depending on CPU load), and with
the conservative governer even more.

The latency (I assume this refers to the apparent responsiveness of
the OS due to the underclocking) is minimal with ondemand, but quite
siginficant with conservative. The responsiveness of the ondemand
governer can be improved *dramatically* by setting the minimum clock to
650MHz rather than letting it take the default 312MHz.

I don't know what kernel information you'd need to change ubuntu to load
the module automatically, I've appended the /proc/cpuinfo which I assume
is enough to identify the CPU by.

Regards,

P.S.
On a much lesser technical note, I really appreciate the ondemand governer.
These particular laptops get *extremely* hot if they're not underclocked, I
mean to the extent that I've had it turn off due to overheating. It'd be a big
step in useability if Ubuntu worked with p4-clockmod out of the box on these
machines, Edgy didn't nor does OpenSuSE 10.2.
Your time and work doesn't go unnoticed!

[Bug 72117] Re: Stack Smashing Prevents Use

2007-01-10 Thread wally
Thanks, I got it working by _dirty_ little trick:

As I know I am always using nvidia driver, so I changed whole function to:
static int check_driver() {return 2; //driver nvidia}

Re-compiled no more stack smashing. I also tried to increase char
name[20] size, but somehow it didn't work.

I am happy now, my Asus 7300 GT with heatsink runs very hot, so this was
very important to me. Thanks again.

[Bug 72117] Re: Stack Smashing Prevents Use

2007-01-08 Thread wally
This happens every single time with nvclock 0.8b2 on my fresh Edgy
install (and I am pretty sure it also did it with my previous Dapper
install). For reproducing, have a (Asus) GF 7300 (GT), download source
from http://www.linuxhardware.org/nvclock/, ./configure make make
install nvclock -s.

Maybe this has somtething to do with Ubuntu, because google finds this
problem only from Ubuntu users.

This didn't happen with 0.8b1 (version in Edgy repositories), but it's
maybe because that version doesn't even support my Asus GF 7300 GT, so
it didn't work either. (nvclock -s gives some random negative speeds
like -123402 Mhz).
