It's a really ugly workaround, but I'm using iptables to block
connections to my ISP's DNS. I manually create and remove iptables rules
using a script but at least this allows me to work remotely. I hope this
get fix soon.

I think I found the root of this bug (at least for me).
It's related to sound. I noticed that the increase number of the FD
happens when the sound is not working. The pipes listed in lsof are to
the sound system.
I think it's related to flash-plugin (always the closed source!).

non-N networks (as before). But, as soon as I connected to a N network
and open Vuze (old Azureus), I got a kernel panic.
Now I'm working WITH the backport and the option, and everything is

like to share a WORKAROUND, while the bug isn't fixed.
If you load the iwlagn with the option 11n_disable, you disable the N
standard, and avoid the kernel panic.

I tried the alsa 1.0.15rc2, and this version fix all the audio output for me
(with many channels). But the microfone (and the line in) gets only noise.
For now, I'm using this kernel modules.
I don't know if this will get to gutsy.
