[Bug 1975633] [NEW] Invalid media key icon is unhelpfull and stress inducing
Public bug reported: My keyboard has an issue: the media forward key is always pressed (i was not aware of the issue at the time). This resulted in a blinking crossed circle in a gnome shell overlay at the bottom of the screen (see attached screen capture). There is no traces in logs of the issue, and the icon itself is very unhelpful, and by its omnipresence, very stress inducing for the novice user. The issue came from this recurring event: ``` sudo evtest ... The crossed circle icon should at least give a hint of the pressed key. It should be a fast forward icon in a crossed circle. Sadly, indeed, the new "security" -25 version seems to be a regression from the "proposed" one. How is it possible? I confirm that the -25 version doesn't boot on a Lenovo ThinkPad E15 G2. And classically, the proposed version disappears when it is superseded by another one. Hopefully, I had marked it in a "hold" status. I thought that the patch was OK and definitely integrated. [Bug 1938126] [NEW] System hangs up or make filesystem read-only
Public bug reported: With kernel 4.15.0-151 the system very often (up to several times an hour) hangs up completely and doesn't react to input of any kind. [Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows
** Description changed: Using Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute) that starts in Wayland, by default. Thunderbird version: 78.11.0 with "gnome-support" package. Same problem in safe mode. Description: By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task. When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending mail apparently close the windows, but gnome shell continue to show multiple "points", as if multiple windows are still active. - And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass" do not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal. + And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass" does not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal. Provisional solution: Modify .desktop file to launch with --display=:0 option, that force to use XWayland interface, as shown by xlsclients (for example). But it is actually a bug under Wayland context, that also badly interfer with many add-ons or extensions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1932328 Title: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1932328/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1884840] [NEW] Package doesn't start after installation
Public bug reported: Note: This bug is related to the package "pdns-server" which doesn't exist according to this bug tracker. That's a bug, it really does exist: https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/pdns-server When installing the pdns-server package, it automatically installs the pdns-backend-bind package as well. That contains a configuration file that prevents the PowerDNS server from starting. This is in the log: Fatal error: Trying to set unknown parameter 'bind-config' That parameter is included in /etc/powerdns/pdns.d/bind.conf. Actually, I don't even want to use that BIND package, but the Postgres backend instead. I installed it like this: apt install pdns-backend-pgsql pdns-server pdns-server requires pdns-backend which is provided by pdns-backend- bind, pdns-backend-pgsql and some more. So something is wrong with the package dependencies or the package manager. I wanted to install two packages and that's all they need. In addition to the backend I chose, another one was installed which I didn't request. Installing pdns-backend-pgsql alone doesn't help either because that depends on pdns-server and then the crazyness starts from the beginning, including the undesired bind backend. When the installed server cannot start, it generates 10 syslog lines each second, for an indefinite time. Reading the log can become an impossible task if it sits there like this for a day, filling the log endlessly. ** Affects: pdns (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1884840 Title: Package doesn't start after installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pdns/+bug/1884840/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1860307] [NEW] GRUB installation failed UbuntuStudio19.10 Lenova M81
Public bug reported: On a Lenova ThinkCentre M81 i3 processor, 8G-Ram & 'fresh' install of UbubtuStudio ~ was successful but at the end (restart) a new black page appears with this; E53: No boot filename received MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent. Error 1965: No operating system found. Press any key to repeat boot sequence. Being new to LINUX .:. Ubuntu 19.10 was just installed a week ago and was working great(including installing Ardour, LMMS, Blender etc.) but upon trying to do a 'fresh' install of UbuntuStudio 19.10 something is not working ? Is there anyone who cold help with this please ~ maybe who has successfully dealt with this issue already ? After two unsuccessful tries at opening Ubuntustudio from the harddrive~then tried to run the program directly from the usb stick and that works well. It shows; 24 folders in "File System". 5 of those folders have 'arrows' (bin, lib, lib32, lib64, fibx32 & sbin). The 24 folders in "500GB Volume"(harddrive) are the same except for a greyed-out folder named 'swapfile' & 'root' both of which have an X on them. The 'ubuntu-studio' (home folder) has 8 folders which are all empty except 'desktop' which has the folder ; "Install Ubuntu Studio 19.10" On the main page (blue w/logo) in the "500 GB Volume" folder is the applications ~ which work well(tried a few). So UbuntuStudio seems to work great off of the usb stick/drive but will not open without the usb drive . We gotta get this sorted out, so if any knowlegable volunteers have experience with these sorts of issues please feel free to help out! Thanks in advance It may be bothersome for folks like you but please remember that you are communicating with a 'beginner' so any quick & not precisely explained suggestions are potentially not going to be correctly interpreted, comprehended or executed . The harddrive is selected as the 1st boot device. This is not a manual install. Ubuntu installer may have selected another drive automatically by error. Which may be something developers address? CMOS battery is new. Thank-you for trying to help start with troubleshooting ,even-though troubleshooting their OS is something many beginners are not looking forwards to do(hi-hi). Perhaps a BIG warning in RED could be on Ubuntu's download page addressing this reality-for anyone considering to download this OS ? That may spare Ubuntu from plenty of complications ? Either way, the process is already underway and presently the Lenovo M81 has no OS now, so what to do other than persist/keep searching for a solution? [Bug 1849936] Re: AMD RADEON VEGA stops working after upgrade 19.04 => 19.10
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Hello, after upgrading Xubuntu 19.04 => 19.10, I have a display problem. Large color pixels appear around the mouse cursor, it flickers and blinks. I have the problem starting with the kernel 5.3.0-19-generic. I re-did a clean install, it's the same (except for a black screen at the 1st reboot, then after starting in debug mode, return to the situation above). I have no problem with the 5.0.0-32 generic kernel (last Kernel supplied with the 19.04. However, I would like to use next kernels...) My processor is an AMD Ryzen 3 and my graphics card (integrated) AMD RADEON VEGA. I thought of a video driver problem (but AMD does not provide it yet for Ubuntu 19.10 and I did not need it with 19.04). Thanks for your help. - PS: I would have stayed on 18.04 LTS but I also had a display problem, - set from 18.10 ... + PS: I would have stayed on 18.04 LTS but I also had a display problem, set from 18.10 ... + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu8.2 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC1: pierre-yves 1711 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: pierre-yves 1711 F pulseaudio + CurrentDesktop: XFCE + Dependencies: + + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-10-22 (23 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.2) + MachineType: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd MS-7B38 + Package: linux-firmware 1.183.1 + PackageArchitecture: all + ProcFB: 0 amdgpudrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.0.0-32-generic root=UUID=ff999487-0645-497b-af2a-b0ed3ea8169d ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-32.34-generic 5.0.21 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-5.0.0-32-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-5.0.0-32-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.183.1 + Tags: eoan + Uname: Linux 5.0.0-32-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to eoan on 2019-10-22 (23 days ago) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + dmi.bios.date: 03/15/2018 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 1.80 + dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. + dmi.board.name: A320M PRO-VD PLUS (MS-7B38) + dmi.board.vendor: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd + dmi.board.version: 1.0 + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd + dmi.chassis.version: 1.0 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr1.80:bd03/15/2018:svnMicro-StarInternationalCo.,Ltd:pnMS-7B38:pvr1.0:rvnMicro-StarInternationalCo.,Ltd:rnA320MPRO-VDPLUS(MS-7B38):rvr1.0:cvnMicro-StarInternationalCo.,Ltd:ct3:cvr1.0: + dmi.product.family: To be filled by O.E.M. + dmi.product.name: MS-7B38 + dmi.product.sku: To be filled by O.E.M. + dmi.product.version: 1.0 + dmi.sys.vendor: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849936/+attachment/5305456/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849936 Title: AMD RADEON VEGA stops working after upgrade 19.04 => 19.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/amd/+bug/1849936/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1758885] [NEW] Upgrade to 18.04 is failing from 17.10
Public bug reported: Getting the same issue with sudo update-manager -d At first I had the message that "Could not calculate the upgrade" with a list of the custom kernel I had installed (from PPA kernel repo). I uninstalled those and it was still failing. Uninstalling again, this time with "Mark for complete removal" checked. And the error is still there, however, there's no mention on where the failure is occurring, nor which package is causing the problem. At this stage, this is now a stock 17.10 install, with no custom PPA setup, nor any 3rd party packages (I removed them all) Still can't upgrade. log: $ do-release-upgrade -d Checking for a new Ubuntu release Get:1 Upgrade tool signature [819 B] Get:2 Upgrade tool [1 251 kB] Fetched 1 252 kB in 0s (0 B/s) authenticate 'bionic.tar.gz' against 'bionic.tar.gz.gpg' extracting 'bionic.tar.gz' Reading cache Checking package manager Reading package lists...
