[Bug 1404955] Re: unable to stop xbmc

2024-03-06 Thread Al-Quresh
It seems like XBMC is not fully exiting when you try to quit, preventing
you from logging in again until you reboot. Try these steps to
troubleshoot:

Check XBMC configuration for session management settings.
Ensure user permissions are set correctly.
Consider updating XBMC to the latest version.
Check XBMC logs for errors.
Try alternative exit methods like keyboard shortcuts.
Manually kill XBMC processes if necessary.
Reboot as a last resort.
Seek support from XBMC community or forums if needed.

[Bug 1971168]

2022-05-15 Thread Al Savage
In the fresh VM, I just installed Chrome (google-chrome) from binaries,
and it too uses the troublesome file picker, and has the same issues
("sees" network shares files but does not read them; resizes poorly;
window enlarges by 244px both H & V every time it's invoked).

File pickers comparison 2

In "File pickers comparison 2", I show that the two file pickers (ff run
from linux binaries vs the snap package) sort files in a different
order, have different options at the bottom, and the bottom window
corners are either square or rounded.

The snap's file picker resizes poorly here, as well.

I ran the ff linux binaries version using the suggestion from
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1768500#c5

[Bug 1971168]

2022-05-15 Thread Al Savage
Created attachment 9276133
File pickers comparison 1

I've spun up a fresh 22.04 install in a VM, then run the snap version
of ff 100 (on the right) and ff 100 from linux binaries (on the left).
The file picker is different between the two versions; the binaries
version shows fewer network share aliases, and this binaries version can
successfully read and write to network shares.

The snap version's file picker shows aliases for network shares (and a
printer) and will navigate into those folders and show files, but when a
file is chosen to open, ff does not read the file and does not display
an error.

2022-05-07 Thread Al Savage
I just upgraded Ubuntu from 21.10 to 22.04, and now Chrome (deb),
Thunderbird (snap), and FireFox (snap) will not open nor save to any
network drives (a home Ubuntu server); all of these apps read/saved to
the same server before the upgrade this afternoon. So, "me too", but
also it may not be limited to FF, snaps, or even Mozilla, since my
Chrome install behaves similarly.

[Bug 1967469] [NEW] kubuntu-driver-manager crashes on wayland session (with hacked solution)

2022-04-01 Thread Al Rirra
Public bug reported:

The bug is very easy to reproduce, and it is happening on the just released
kubuntu 22.04 LTS beta.
It probably happens on older versions too, but i didn't check them.

Just install the "plasma-workspace-wayland" package with apt, logout and switch
to wayland.
Then run "kubuntu-driver-manager" with the terminal or clicking "Driver
Manager" in the settings.
It errors out saying: "qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display :0".

The problem can be solved by commenting out "export DISPLAY=:0" in
"/usr/bin/kubuntu-driver-manager", although it's probably just a hack.

Please test again. You probably did not understand the bug.

[Bug 1947516] [NEW] Invisible mouse cursor in games (TF2, CS:GO, LoL, HL2) Wayland Ubuntu 21.10

2021-10-17 Thread Rodrigo Al
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my system (21.04) to the lastest release which is Ubuntu
21.10 "Impish inri" and while everything went smooth as butter, when i
tried to play games like League of Legends under Wine with Lutris and
native Linux games such as TF2, CS:GO, Half-Life 2, Left 4 dead, Game
Dev Tycoon, etc. The mouse cursor in games was invisible, it was there
because i could still click options, new game, etc.

General specs:
Computer Model: Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion 14 Notebook PC
RAM: 8GB (6.7GB available)
Processor: AMD® A8-6410 apu with amd radeon r5 graphics × 4
Graphics: AMD® Kabini (I'm using AMDGPU)
HDD: 500.1 GB

OS: Ubuntu 21.10
OS Type: 64 bits
Gnome Version: 40.4.0
Window system: Wayland (Currently im using Xorg thus it says X11)

I installed the OS from scratch and the issue still persist, however like
before doing it it's only present when using Wayland because on X11 i can see
the cursor to navigate menus as one would do usually.
If you need any additional info just let me know and thanks for reading.

[Bug 1943079] [NEW] Installing latest linux-firmware (1.187.16) causes wifi interface to disappear

2021-09-08 Thread J Al-Ansari
Public bug reported:

Summary
===

Installing linux-firmware 1.187.16, which became available on 17th Aug
2021, caused my wifi interface to disappear after reboot.

My machine:
Lenovo T15 Gen2
CPU: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7

I tried force installing previous version 1.187.15, but that version isn't
available!
So, in the end, I rebooted into a live CD and re-installed the OS!

In the newly installed OS, I just made sure to NOT select linux-firmware
package in the list of available upgrades, and I will stick with version
1.187.15 till I have confidence there is better and working version.

NOTE:

On an older machine, with an older chipset, I did NOT experience this issue.
Older machine:
Lenovo x230
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU
Wifi: Centrino Advanced-N 6205

System
==

I'm running Linux Mint Edge, based on Ubuntu 20.04, but with upgraded kernel
(5.11.0.34):
lsb_release -rd
Description:Linux Mint 20.2
Release:20.2

Package
===

apt-cache policy linux-firmware
linux-firmware:
  Installed: 1.187.16

[Bug 1868517] Re: Stray /usr/.crates2.json file

So I guess we're... waiting for a backport?

In the meanwhile, edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/ripgrep.list and remove the
usr/.* junk that rust helpfully leaves around.

[Bug 1787743] Re: Slow USB mouse input on linux-lowlatency

2019-05-02 Thread Al Bendiks
Today I installed Ubuntu Studio 18.10 64bit, after install I updated
4.18.0-18-lowlatency and now instead of what I observed in 4.15 kernels, see
that IRQ16 nobody cares does not occur and my mouse is OK. A780gm-a
motherboard , SB700.
Happier that I have progress but note I have IRQ18 nobody cares event and an
IRQ18 disabled occurring. Moving my mouse to the front panel exhibits same
laggy behavior.

Public bug reported:

I use Windows. I made a different partition where I tried to install Ubuntu.
But then grub failed to install. It just could not install.
So, all aborted.
I just downloaded the iso from the Ubuntu website and installed it immediately,
I don't know what caused this failure.
Please fix this.

[Bug 614309] Re: Advanced grub install options show partition table BEFORE format/repartition instead of AFTER

2018-03-23 Thread Mahmoud H. Al-Qudsi
@jamman647: 8 years late to the party, but the installer bases its
*post*-install configuration based on the selection you make on that
screen. There's no way to tell it what partition to boot from if it
doesn't show you what your partitions will look like at the time your
system, well, boots. Who cares what your partition layout looks like if
you're going to wipe it all away in a minute?

[Bug 1758447] [NEW] grub2 missing support for non-extfs under uefi

2018-03-23 Thread Mahmoud H. Al-Qudsi
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Desktop/Server 17.10.1 allows manual partitioning of a disk and
the selection of a non-ext{3,4} filesystem for the / partition. The
grub2 uefi module (at least the amd64 one) is not baked with support for
all the filesystems that one can deploy Ubuntu during setup. Result:
grub2 is installed and runs after reboot, but errors out before it can
load the kernel as it has not been baked with support for the filesystem
in question.

Tested against an xfs root partition on both physical and virtual
hardware.

Somewhat like #185878, only affecting UEFI instead of MBR installations.

[Bug 1682988] [NEW] Trying to install Lubuntu 16.0 on eeePC 701 - crashed and took existing OS with it

2017-04-14 Thread Al Ferguson
Public bug reported:

I attempted to install Lubuntu 16.0 onto my eeePC 701, (4Gb RAM, 4Gb SSD)
at the point where I was expecting to be able to select my instalation options
I suddenly got a message that (a) I had insuficient space for my selection,
even though I had not actually made a selection, and (b) a report was going to
be sent to the developers.

I selected CANCEL and quit the install, tried to reboot and that's when
my O/S (Lubuntu 14) had been trashed.

Not a big deal as I do have the *.ISO for 14 and can easily reinstall
it, its just a concerne that the install for 16 ate my existing O/S

There is no log files to send

Regards

Al

[Bug 1670179] [NEW] grab 2 failed on windows 10 boot manager efi

2017-03-05 Thread Fadel Al Hassan
Public bug reported:

I have two hard drives one has windows 10 and an empty ssd drive.
I want to install ubuntu on the empty ssd drive alongside windows.
Windows is using efi boot manager partition and efi option for HHD is enabled
in the bios.
I created new partitions on the empty ssd for root, home and swap and I chose
windows boot manager efi partition for boot loader.

However, I get grub 2 failed to install on /dev/sda1 which is the efi
partition.

What should I do to install ubuntu in the ssd hard alongside windows?

Thanks

[Bug 1634572] Re: APCUPSD does not send killpower command to UPS (only happens on Ubuntu 16.04)

2017-02-03 Thread Al
I have been fighting this problem for quite a while. It is gratifying
that others also have the same problem. I have tried using several
linux releases, including Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, and Mint. All have
the same problem, ie, the UPS will not power down after the system is
shut down. My experience is that killpower is not shutting down the
UPS.

I have had the problem with an APC back-ups 350 with a USB cable, an APC
smartups 1400 with a serial interface to a USB port, and an APC smartups
620 with the same serial inteface to a usb port. Apcuspd v3.14.14.0,
V3.14.12.0, and all of these with Fedora 25, Mint Mate 18.0, The latest
release of Raspbian on a Raspberry PI, and Ubuntu mate on a Raspberry
PI. The system shuts down as expected, but I cannot get the UPS to
shutdown after the system shutdown. HELP!!!

[Bug 1606078] Re: No sound with Ubuntu 16.04

2016-12-20 Thread Al Thomason
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1533343 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1533343

Luke Yelavich (themuso) wrote on 2016-09-16:
"Could anybody affected by this bug please try upgrading the HDA audio driver,
as outlined here. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS.

If you have made changes to files in /etc/modprobe.d as suggested above,
please undo those changes prior to updating."

==

Today I tried this, and no change. Currently sound will come from headphones,
but not speakers.
Dell 5510 - OEM 14.04lts upgraded to 16.04lts.

Edit in step #5 did not help (I have backed it out). Not sure what
else I can do to help solve this issue, please ask (trying to make run
at Linux again)

[Bug 1533343] Re: No sound from internal speakers after boot with connected headphones

2016-12-20 Thread Al Thomason
Same issue, same machine as Peter. Dell 5510, upgraded to 16.04 -- at
1st the speakers worked, but the headphone would not. Now the
headphones work, but the internal speakers don't.
