[Bug 87312] Re: xsane should not detect TV cards

2012-07-28 Thread altima
this is not a bug at all. this is a feature of SANE.
so that Xsane removes the TV card from the options, you should comment all the
lines in the file /etc/sane.d/v4l.conf
simply add a symbol # in the beginning of each line of this file.

[Bug 332355] Re: Empathy doesn't alert to new email messages

2011-04-19 Thread altima
the lack of this feature is the only reason why I haven't yet switched to
Empathy from Pidgin. and I won't switch to it till the feature appears.
as for Evolution, most people today use webmail as internet connectivity is no
longer a problem and web interfaces have become sweet.

[Bug 463498] Re: Pidgin leads to system freeze when the PC is connected via wifi. Ubuntu version: every. Hardware: Dell Vostro 500 laptop.

2010-09-07 Thread altima
yes, it is. and this happens only when the People nearby account is active.
I activated avahi-daemon by the file /etc/default/avahi-daemon containing the
line AVAHI_DAEMON_DETECT_LOCAL=0. and now each time when I have the People
nearby set active in Pidgin and start wifi-connection, this leads to a hard
freeze. even ALT+SysRq combinations stop working.

[Bug 584831] [NEW] nm-applet tends to disappear w/compiz on

2010-05-24 Thread altima
Public bug reported:

I noticed this bug on two machines with nvidia graphic-cards.

Scenario.
1. nm-applet acts as normal on a machine with compiz turned off: the applet
appears on start every time.
2. when you turn on desktop effects, the following occasionally happens: during
the taskbar load a space gets reserved for the nm-applet, but the applet itself
does not appear, and the space either gets filled with some duplicate icon
(i.e. there appears a second sound icon or a second google desktop icon or
whatever), or it is just left empty - so I get a gap between icons in taskbar.
and of course, this empty space/double icon does not act as either nm-applet or
the icon it shows.
3. but when I remove the taskbar from the panel and add it again, all the
icons, including nm-applet, are back there.

the problem is critical on one of my machines, because there my girlfriend is
sitting and needs the VPN internet connection. and this connection can only be
established manually through the nm-applet. so when she starts the computer
with nm-applet gone, she gets totally confused.
So I had to turn off effects on her machine, and this is indeed not the best
decision.

P.S. this has been happenning on Ubuntu 7-9.10. don't know about 10.04 -
didn't try it, and not ready to install it, yet.

2010-05-07 Thread altima
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

this was an auto-report, but I suppose it concerns problems with
suspending and resuming my PC, as well as hybernation. all of these
simply do not work at this machine under Ubuntu 9.10. the system seems
to get into a sleep mode/hybernation OK until it gets to the point when
the power should be turned off. the power stays on, and there is no way
to get Ubuntu back, except powering it off and on again.

  ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from
resuming properly. The resume processing hung very near the end and will have
appeared to have completed normally.

[Bug 556429] Re: ubuntuone-client crashes when trying to connect it within 5 min. after computer start

2010-04-07 Thread altima
Dear Mitch,

I followed the advice. Ubuntu One now crashes more often and generates
reports. and there also appeared mismatch between the status (synced or
offline) and the icon in tray.

[Bug 556429] [NEW] ubuntuone-client crashes when trying to connect it within 5 min. after computer start

2010-04-06 Thread altima
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

when I start my computer, Ubuntu One shows the cloud with the
exclamation mark. if I wait for about 5-10 minutes, it connects itself.
but if I try to connect immediately by clicking the menu item Connect,
it crashes. although it doesn't happen, if I try toconnect via menu item
after certain time the system is up. and it also doesn't happen, when
after the crash I start the client manually from the
Applications-menu.

[Bug 556000] [NEW] [Asus a8n-sli Premium AMD Athlon 64] late resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2010-04-05 Thread altima
Public bug reported:

this was an auto-report, but I suppose it concerns problems with
suspending and resuming my PC, as well as hybernation. all of these
simply do not work at this machine under Ubuntu 9.10. the system seems
to get into a sleep mode/hybernation OK until it gets to the point when
the power should be turned off. the power stays on, and there is no way
to get Ubuntu back, except powering it off and on again.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from
resuming properly. The resume processing hung very near the end and will have
appeared to have completed normally.

[Bug 327362] Re: Some ISPs have .local domain which disables avahi-daemon

2010-01-19 Thread altima
I have this bug in Ubuntu 9.10.

I believe it is somehow related to network-manager, and this is why:

I installed Ubuntu Minimal with gdm, but instead of installing network-manager,
I installed wicd.
and avahi worked great!
but then I needed to set up broadband connection, and since wicd doesn't have
the option, I replaced it with network-manager.

and at this very point avahi stopped working with the message about
.local.

getting back to wicd did not solve the problem. so the thing must be in
some config files that are being altered during a network-manager
installation.

[Bug 494179] [NEW] TomBoy fails to sync with Ubuntu One if there are no local notes

2009-12-08 Thread altima
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

I made a clean install of ubuntu, opened Tomboy, removed those How to start
and Using links notes, so my Tomboy became virgin clean.
At this point I asked it to sync with Ubuntu One, where I have several notes
under one tag. everything went fine and I even noticed the names of the notes
syncing with Tomboy. But suddenly it just terminated.
When I started it again, it had no notes, but my tag was there.
New attempts to sync wuth U1 resulted in an error message telling me to read
~/.Tomboy.log for the error details. I didn't find the log there. I just
created a new note and synced again. And everything worked like magic!

So I suppose that if you try to sync empty Tomboy, you will get the same
bug.

I don't know, what to attach in here, but if you tell me, I will do.

[Bug 462299] Re: Synchronized files do not appear on the Ubuntu One web interface

2009-10-30 Thread altima
for me only folders appear in the left hand box, but there are no files
in the right hand one. I didn't try syncing with my another PC, so I
can't say whether the files were actually synced or not.

[Bug 463498] [NEW] Pidgin leads to system freeze when the PC is connected via wifi. Ubuntu version: every. Hardware: Dell Vostro 500 laptop.

2009-10-29 Thread altima
Public bug reported:

every time and on any version of Ubuntu Pidgin leads to a freeze when
the PC gets connected via WiFi. when this happens, the screen turns
black, and all I can see on it is a blinking cursor. CAPS-lock and NUM-
lock LEDs are blinking as well. Keyboard does not respond. the only way
out of this is to switch off the PC by holding the ON/Stand-by button
for several seconds.

[Bug 311297] Re: growisofs unable to burn dual layer DVD-R

2009-01-28 Thread altima
There's the same problem in ubuntu 8.10 (gnome).

the DVD-R DL is recognized by the system as a blank disk, but when I am
trying to burn data onto DVD-R DL, brasero does not see it and has no
options except recording an image. and when I am trying to burn the data
onto the disc using the standard Create CD/DVD it requires a DVD+R DL.
