 Title:
unmet dependencies during update of nspr4: libnspr4 : Breaks:

Status in “nspr” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “nspr” source package in Precise:
   Fix Released

 Bug description:
   [Impact]
An SRU of nspr to make CD-based upgrades work better from 10.04 to 12.04
has caused failures in other cases where users have continuously upgraded
their systems from Ubuntu 9.04 or earlier and as a result have had old,
obsolete evolution packages held back. These users can now not upgrade at
 all using update-manager.

   [Test case]
   1. Fish an old Ubuntu 9.04 CD out of the drawer and install in English.
Make sure that the language-support-en package and
 language-support-translations-en are installed.
   2. Manually upgrade to 10.04. Check that language-support-en is still
 installed.
   3. Run update-manager -d to upgrade to 12.04. Verify that this upgrade
 fails.
   4. Enable -proposed, so that precise-proposed will be used in the
 upgrade to 12.04.
   5. Run update-manager -d again. Verify that the upgrade now succeeds.

   Alternatively:
   1. Get a 12.04 chroot
   2. Add natty and jaunty (http://old-releases.ubuntu.com) to
 /etc/apt/sources.list
   3. sudo apt-get install evolution-plugins/natty evolution-common/natty
 libnspr4/natty language-support-translations-en/jaunty
 language-support-en/jaunty language-support-writing-en/jaunty
   4. Drop natty and jaunty from /etc/apt/sources.list
   5. Check that system is broken in apt-get -f install or apt-get
 dist-upgrade
   6. Get new libnspr4
   7. Upgrade now works, removing language-support-translations-en and
 language-support-en

   [Regression potential]
The risk of regression here is difficult to quantify without an
exhaustive examination of all historic packages in Ubuntu that depended on
one or more of these now-obsolete language support packages. Adding these
Conflicts may result in other, different upgrade failures for yet another
set of users. What can be said is that any user affected by either this
regression, or a regression resulting from this change, had obsolete
packages installed which should be removed from their system; and the only
effective way to identify any such remaining cases is by making the upgrade
to 12.04 refuse to work until they've been dealt with.

   Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

[Bug 987460] [NEW] battery indicator does not show battery remaining

2012-04-23 Thread Ashutosh
Public bug reported:

I have recently installed the ubuntu 12.04 desktop edition to test it out.
Previously, I had ubuntu 10.10 32 bit on my machine but there were some bugs
like boot time bugs and same bug as I am presenting here.
Actually, the battery indicator does not show the battery remaining. It just
indicate it as not present. After some time, the battery just does off and
laptop just crashes.
Had anyone has gone threw this bug or have this bug been solved?

[Bug 732768] Re: ask.com is the only search provider

2011-03-14 Thread ashutosh chaudhary
maybe you should try to edit preferences into the firefox's edit tab,
and setting the home page to google.com. WEell maybe that may work for
you.

[Bug 579941] Re: Upgrade removes eth0 from /etc/network/interfaces

2010-05-17 Thread Ashutosh Rishi
The network connection (for DHCP) should be either be allowed to
automatically get configured through the 'Network Connections GUI' OR by
including:

auto ethX
iface ethX inet dhcp

where X is replaced by your preferred network card's number. Not both.

[Bug 578670] Re: Cannot change password from applet if pasword is empty

2010-05-17 Thread Ashutosh Rishi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The applet in question
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 579941] Re: Upgrade removes eth0 from /etc/network/interfaces

2010-05-17 Thread Ashutosh Rishi
(sorry I pressed post by mistake)
1) Ensure that the /etc/network/interfaces file has no 'auto eth0..' only 'auto
lo'. Then create a new connections through 'Edit Connections' and enter the mac
address and keep ipv4 to 'Automatic (DHCP)'. At first it didn't work, but later
it did.

But before that even I edited my interfaces file to add 'auto eth0...'.
Connection was done properly but then something was wrong with the network
connection panel applet (it did not show no matter what I did).
I did what I was told (i.e point 1) and the connection was still proper and the
applet was proper.

The main point I kept reading was that it is recommended to try
connecting using the applet rather than editing the interfaces file. So
I thought I would share that.

[Bug 573691] [NEW] Chrome bookmarks are cropped when Ambiance theme or Radiance theme is selected

2010-05-02 Thread Ashutosh Rishi
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Chrome Version (from the about:version page): 5.0.375.23 (Official Build 45554)
dev

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install chromium or chrome-dev on ubuntu 10.04

What is the expected result?
Bookmarks added or synced in bookmark bar should be appearing completely.

What happens instead?
I freshly installed chromium on Ubuntu 10.04 and the bookmarks I add in the
bookmark bar do not appear fully. They are cut from top and from bottom, only
the middle part of the icon and text (height-wise) is seen. I was having this
problem when I was using lucid beta too but found no fix or reason. I did a
fresh install of lucid now and yet the problems seems to be there. I installed
chrome-dev and chrome-beta and the problem's there too. Then I changed the
theme to something other than the default Ambiance and Radiance theme and found
that the bookbark bar has been fixed. I tried it with other desktop themes and
it was appearing properly. Please note that I do not mean the gtk-theme for
chrome, I mean the desktop theme. With every chrome theme the bookmarks appear
fully as long as the desktop theme is not Radiance or Ambiance.

Also, I am not sure whether its a bug in the theme or chrome. I filed a bug
similarly for chrome too.
Screenshot attached.

[Bug 328398] [NEW] mail attachments come as winmail.dat in evolution

2009-02-12 Thread ashutosh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am the only one using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) and Evolution 2.22.3.1 in
my office. All my colleagues use Windows XP SP2 and MS Outlook 2003. All the
attachments (.xl / .doc / .pdf) that I receive from anyone are received by
Evolution as winmail.dat. If I log in to www.mail2web.com and check emails on
the server it is still winmail.dat.
But if I log in to Windows XP SP3 on my system (I have dual boot) and check
attachments in MS Outlook 2003 I can see them as .xl or .doc or .pdf.

[Bug 202855] Re: nvidia_drv.so crash during X restart by kdm

2008-11-24 Thread ashutosh mahajan
a temporary fix is to use:
TerminateServer=true

in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc. this restarts xserver after every session and avoids
the crash.

[Bug 164542] Installing mplayer : Cyclic dependency in libraries

2007-11-22 Thread Ashutosh
Public bug reported:

I am using ubuntu dapper and trying to install mplayer. Mplayer
has a dependency on a library: libggi2. This further depends on libgii0.
While libgii0 depends on libgii0-target-x.
So graphically its like this:
libggi2 == libgii0 == libgii0-target-x.
But as can be seen on this link: http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/libs/libgii0
library libgii0-target-x again depends on libgii0.
This is some kind of cyclic dependency. Is there a work-around to this ?

Can we hope for a more meaningful error message at least ?

(I also tested with v7.10 - the same)

when I click on CD-RW drive in Computer.
