Public bug reported: When trying to print ony my Samsung CLP 510N (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS), Cups reports SpliX Cannot open CMS file /usr/share/cups/profiles/samsung/CLP-510cms (2) , and it does not print. The system starts to slow down massively, as process gs starts to eat up all memory, with the swap space filling up. Process gs starts to slowly eat up all memory. I installed the printer via the cups web interface via ipp:// The directory /usr/share/cups/profiles is empty, and there is no samsung/ directory in it. [Bug 263802] Re: system-config-printer needs admin privleges
This is still an issue in Ubuntu 11.04 (I've had my version upgraded doing the regular dist-upgrade via the GUI). I've tried adding a Samsung CLP 510 printer as a network printer (ipp) using the CUPS web interface. phil@birdy-desktop:~$ id uid=1000(phil) gid=1000(phil) Gruppen=1000(phil),4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),46(plugdev),111(lpadmin),119(admin),122(sambashare) and File /usr/share/cups/model/samsung/cms/CLP-510cms does not exist. If you need any further information, please let me know. ** Changed in: system-config-printer (Ubuntu) Status: Expired = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263802 Title: system-config-printer needs admin privleges To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config-printer/+bug/263802/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 520349] [NEW] Unable to install from Software Center
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center When I try to install any of the packages from the Ubuntu Software Center (Applications - Ubuntu Software Center) the following happens: 1) The Install popup comes up with two buttons to choose from: Install and Website 2) If I click on Install a popup to authenticate comes up and shifts from left to right very fast (few milliseconds) and then disappears. Thus, I am never able to go any further with the installation! In some cases (after several attempts and rapidly clicking my left mouse button) I able to stabilize the authenticate popup. However, if I click on the authenticate button, nothing obvious happens --- the package never installs. --V. [Bug 520349] Re: Unable to install from Software Center
The problem seems to be more serious and far reaching! That is, I am now unable to execute sudo su from the terminal; i.e., the following occurs: vir...@virgil-desktop:~$ sudo su sudo: must be setuid root and being a newbie to Ubuntu, I do not know how to handle this from here. Also, I am unable to execute the following: Administration - Software Sources Administration - Synaptic Program Manager That is, when I try these, a busy icon is shown for a few seconds and then disappears , and the programs are not executed. The source of the problem may have been an attempted update of 5 packages this morning. When I turned on my computer, a few seconds after my desktop appeared, I got a popup (Software updates are available for this computer): Important security updates gnome-screensaver libmysqlclient16 mysql-common Recommended updates python-ubuntuone-client python-ubuntuone-storageprotocol Of course, I tried to install them; but, this hung up the update manager --- I had to close it after several minutes. -- Unable to install from Software Center https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520349 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 520349] Re: Unable to install from Software Center
With the help of an earlier post I found on on setuid problems, I performed the following 1. Rebooted in recovery mode 2. In the root executed the following: chown root:root /usr/bin/sudo chmod 4111 /usr/bin/sudo 3. Rebooted 4. I was now able to install the 5 updates (mentioned in my previous comment). 5. sudo now works! However, I am still unable to perform an install on any of the software in Ubuntu Software Center The same error occurs (left-right jitter movement of the authenticate popup) when I clock on install. --V -- Unable to install from Software Center https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520349 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 56828] Re: xdiskusage does not paint window if launched from an application launcher.
As of today, the culprit is tracked down (although, due to my lack of experience in relation to C/C++ coding, not yet eleminated): The passing of arguments as implemented at the beginning of the main function gets on the wrong track when the function is being called from the desktop (e.g. by simply double-clicking on the binary ...). To verify my hypothesis, I've streamlined the main function and recompiled the code subsequently, thus achieving a binary that works as expected under (K)Ubuntu 2006 - but forces you to start from the application's main interface (no switches accepted, for this is only a nasty little hack ...): http://www.penguin.ch/Repository/Apps/XDiskUsage/ Maybe some real expert could elaborate my preliminary work to a real solution ... -- xdiskusage does not paint window if launched from an application launcher. https://launchpad.net/bugs/56828 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
